Michael Lorenzen Has Mild Groin Strain
Detroit Tigers right-hander Michael Lorenzen (groin), who was scratched from his Grapefruit League start on Monday, is dealing with a mild left groin strain. He will progress to baseball activities in camp as his symptoms allow, but it doesn't sound like Lorenzen will need to begin the 2023 regular season on the injured list. The 31-year-old comes to Detroit after going 8-6 with a 4.24 ERA (4.31 FIP), 1.28 WHIP and 20.7 percent strikeout rate in 97 2/3 innings over 18 starts in his lone season with the Los Angeles Angels in 2022. The converted reliever has durability concerns and not much fantasy upside at all as a starter, although he has moved to a pitcher-friendly division in the American League Central.

Detroit Tigers right-hander Michael Lorenzen (groin) was scratched from his scheduled Grapefruit League start on Monday due to groin tightness. Trey Wingenter will now make the start in what will be a bullpen game for the Tigers against the Toronto Blue Jays. The 31-year-old is currently being evaluated, and it's unclear as of now if this is an injury that will put him in jeopardy of missing Opening Day. In his most recent spring outing on March 14, Lorenzen only threw 2 2/3 innings, so he still has some building up to do before the start of the 2023 regular season. Lorenzen's durability concerns are even more scary now that he's a starting pitcher, as he missed over two months with the Angels in 2022 due to a shoulder injury. He's in a pitcher-friendly division, but Lorenzen doesn't have much fantasy upside.
