  • Adalberto Mondesi To Join Triple-A Omaha In Rehab Assignment

Kansas City Royals shortstop Adalberto Mondesi (oblique) will join Triple-A Omaha after the team's off-day on Monday as he continues his rehab assignment, according to Josh Vernier of 610 Sports Radio. General manager Dayton Moore said that the team does not want to rush things with Mondesi's recovery. He has been out since the end of Spring Training with an oblique strain, and he just recently began a rehab assignment at Double-A. Mondesi is getting closer and closer to a return to Kansas City, and he could be back with the Royals before the end of the month.

  • Adalberto Mondesi Wants More At-Bats Before Returning

Kansas City Royals shortstop Adalberto Mondesi (oblique) stated he wanted a few more at-bats from the left side of the plate before making his 2021 debut. The speedster is rumored to return sometime by next Sunday, although it is unknown if this latest revelation could delay things a bit longer. The 25-year-old led the league with 24 stolen bases last season, so fantasy managers hope to have him back sooner rather than later.

  • Adalberto Mondesi Could Return Late Next Week

Kansas City Royals shortstop Adalberto Mondesi (oblique) could be activated from the injured list late next week, according to Vahe Gregorian of the Kansas City Star. Gregorian reports that Royals general manager Dayton Moore and advisor Rafael Belliard have been in Arkansas observing Mondesi's progress, with Belliard stating that Mondesi could return by May 18, while Moore says he believes the best-case scenario for Mondesi would see him activated on May 21. Regardless of which day it is, it sounds like Mondesi is very close to a return to action, much to the relief of fantasy managers who have anxiously been awaiting his speed on the basepaths.

  • Adalberto Mondesi To Begin Rehab Assignment Thursday

Kansas City Royals shortstop Adalberto Mondesi (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment on Thursday with Double-A Northwest Arkansas, according to Lynn Worthy of the Kansas City Star. Mondesi has been out since Spring Training with an oblique strain, and had just recently begun swinging a bat again. It's a good sign that Mondesi could be back in Kansas City in the near future, and managers should prepare for the speedy shortstop to return potentially within the next week and a half to two weeks.

  • Adalberto Mondesi Heads To Spring Training Complex

Kansas City Royals shortstop Adalberto Mondesi (oblique) has gone to the team's Spring Training complex in Arizona to begin building up for a rehab assignment, according to Bill Ladson of MLB.com. Mondesi has yet to appear this season as he is working his way back from a right oblique strain he suffered late in Spring Training. Ladson reports that Mondesi is ready to taking batting practice while hitting right-handed, but is not yet ready to hit from the left side. Manager Mike Matheny said, "Mondi is going there and [getting] on his feet, [moving] around. They have a lot of people down there who could help him take that next step. He can get as many live swings from the right side as [he needs while] making progression on the left side. It's a good place for him to be right now." There's no timetable yet for Mondesi's return to Kansas City, but it's a step in the right direction, and managers should keep checking regularly for further developments on his rehab.

  • Adalberto Mondesi Progressing In The Right Direction

Kansas City Royals shortstop Adalberto Mondesi (oblique) has been participating in batting practice at an alternate training site. This is good news, primarily after it was reported a few weeks ago that he had not been cleared to swing a bat. Fantasy managers continue to wait with bated breath for his return, especially those who picked him up at drafts while knowing he was hurt. The 25-year-old has been a nightmare for opposing teams, compiling nearly 100 stolen bases over the last three seasons.

  • Adalberto Mondesi Remains Sidelined

Kansas City Royals shortstop Adalberto Mondesi (oblique) is still without a timetable for his return. Manager Mike Matheny said on Monday that Mondesi has been lightly moving so that his strained oblique doesn't linger. The Royals are remaining cautious with their talented shortstop and Nicky Lopez will continue play shortstop in his absence. Mondesi is a career .251 hitter and should be able to put up limited power with plenty of stolen bases when he is healthy. Lopez is hitting .282 with three RBI and two stolen bases. He is best served in AL-Only leagues or deeper league

  • Adalberto Mondesi Making Some Progress

Kansas City Royals shortstop Adalberto Mondesi is making some progress in his recovery from an oblique injury. Mondesi was able to "do some more movements" per manager Mike Matheny- and he seems to be progressing well. The speedster is still without a timetable for return- though it's certainly positive news that he's able to build up his activity while on the injured list. Nicky Lopez, who has eight hits and a stolen base, will continue to hold the fort down at shortstop until Mondesi returns.

  • Adalberto Mondesi Taking Things Light This Week

Kansas City Royals shortstop Adalberto Mondesi (oblique) opened the season on the injured list with an oblique strain. According to Royals manager Mike Matheny, Mondesi is still taking things light this week. This likely means Mondesi still has at least a week or two before he's ready to make his 2021 debut. With Mondesi sidelined, Nicky Lopez has started at shortstop for each of the team's six games. Lopez should continue to be the team's everyday shortstop while Mondesi remains out. Mondesi is a fantasy gem with his stolen base prowess. He remains a top candidate to lead the league in steals even with a delayed start to the year.

  • Adalberto Mondesi Expected To Miss A Couple Of Weeks

Kansas City Royals shortstop Adalberto Mondesi (oblique) is expected to miss a couple of weeks, per manager Mike Matheny. Mondesi suffered an oblique strain during the team's final Cactus League game and was placed on the 10-day injured list, though Matheny indicated that it could take "at least a couple of weeks." The 25-year-old is in Kansas City, though he's shut down from most activity for the moment. It doesn't seem to be a serious oblique strain- though fantasy managers who invested early-round draft capital in the skilled base-stealer will have to make alternate plans on the waiver wire, perhaps for a bit longer than initially expected.

  • Adalberto Mondesi Placed On 10-Day Injured List

The Kansas City Royals have placed shortstop Adalberto Mondesi (oblique) on the 10-day injured list with a right oblique strain. Nicky Lopez was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move. Lopez should see regular time at shortstop while Mondesi remains on the injured list. Mondesi had a foot injury earlier this spring, but it was unrelated to this recent injury. Fantasy managers who have Mondesi in rotisserie and head-to-head categories leagues may want to peruse the waiver wire for some short-term stolen base help.

  • Adalberto Mondesi Swipes First Base Of Spring On Friday

Kansas City Royals shortstop Adalberto Mondesi stole a base and scored a run in Friday's tie with the Angels. Mondesi laid down a sacrifice bunt, reached on a scoring error, then promptly stole second base for his first swiped bag of the spring. The 25-year-old has six hits and five runs scored in nine Cactus League games. Mondesi ranked in the 98th percentile in sprint speed last year and has stolen 67 bases over his last 161 games, having been caught stealing just 15 times. His plate discipline is admittedly poor, but his dip in batting average didn't jive with his .350 BABIP- and can perhaps be explained by a 6.7 percent decline in his line drive rate. Mondesi's stolen base prowess is a huge advantage in roto formats- and he might not be as poor in the batting average and home run categories as expected.

  • Royals Have Engaged Adalberto Mondesi About Extension

The Kansas City Royals have recently engaged shortstop Adalberto Mondesi about a long-term contract extension, according to sources familiar with the situation. However, one source cautioned that there is "a lot to work through." The 25-year-old is under team control for three more years, but the Royals might want to sign him to an extension sooner than later. KC is hoping Mondesi's .356/.408/.667 slash line with six home runs and 24 RBI in 100 plate appearances in September and October last year is a sign of things to come. At a position packed with stars, Mondesi won't offer much help in batting average or power, but he is an elite stolen-base asset for fantasy managers. If he's the hitter that finished last season instead of the one prior (.186 average in July and August), Mondesi will be a no-doubt top-10 fantasy shortstop.

  • Adalberto Mondesi To Make Spring Debut Friday

Kansas City Royals shortstop Adalberto Mondesi (foot) will make his spring debut on Friday against the Dodgers. Mondesi has been eased into action as he continues to deal with a sore foot after being hit by a pitch. The 25-year-old was able to take batting practice and run the bases on Wednesday, so it was never really a serious concern. Mondesi will hurt fantasy manager's batting average numbers a bit, but he's the best stolen base threat in the game after swiping 67 bases in his last 161 games played. He's worth drafting in category formats if you can stomach the potential hit in batting average.

  • Adalberto Mondesi Takes Batting Practice Wednesday Morning

Kansas City Royals shortstop Adalberto Mondesi (foot) has yet to make his spring training debut. He's been sidelined with a foot injury that was sustained when he was hit by a pitch before camp started. However, on Wednesday morning, he took part in batting practice and also ran the bases and did some fielding drills. Royals manager Mike Matheny has said that the team is being cautious with him. It may still be a few days or more until we see Mondesi make his spring debut. Mondesi led the majors with 24 stolen bases last year and also recorded six home runs, 22 RBI and 33 runs over 59 games.

  • Adalberto Mondesi Was Hit By Pitch Before Camp

Kansas City Royals shortstop Adalberto Mondesi (foot) was hit by a pitch in the foot before camp started. Royals manager Mike Matheny released the update this week and stated that the team has been cautious with him ever since. It sounds like Mondesi should be able to make his spring debut soon. Matheny said that Mondesi was taking live at-bats and participating in drills last week. Mondesi had an inconsistent year in 2020, but still wound up with solid season-ending numbers. Over 59 games in 2020, he slashed .256/.294/.416 with six home runs, 22 RBI, 33 runs and an MLB-leading 24 stolen bases.
