  • Jesse Winker Hitting Second Against Cubs

    Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Jesse Winker is serving as the designated hitter and is batting second in the lineup on Opening Day on Thursday against the Chicago Cubs and right-hander Marcus Stroman. Christian Yelich is hitting in the leadoff spot for Milwaukee to kick off the 2023 season. Winker was mostly hurt in a disappointing season in 2022 with the Seattle Mariners, but he could bounce back in a nice situation for the Brew Crew. Shortstop Willy Adames is hitting third, with Rowdy Tellez in the cleanup spot. The 29-year-old left-handed-hitting Winker struggled in spring training by hitting .200 (5-for-25) with two doubles and one RBI, but he walked six times and struck out only three times in 10 Cactus League games.

  • Luke Voit Pushes Back Opt-Out Date

    First-baseman/designated hitter Luke Voit has pushed back the opt-out date on his minor league deal with the Brewers until Friday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.   • Jesse Winker "Feeling Strong" For 2023

    Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Jesse Winker said Tuesday that he is "feeling strong" and "healthy" entering the 2023 season, per MLB.com's Adam McCalvy. This is encouraging, as Winker went through two off-season surgeries, one to repair the meniscus in his left knee and one to replace a disc in his spine. The 29-year-old said that he will defer to the medical staff as to when he can start participating in spring training, but the goal is to be ready for Opening Day. Despite dealing with injuries throughout his career and a disappointing 2022 season, Winker flashed his fantasy potential in 2021, when he hit 24 home runs in 485 plate appearances. Currently being drafted at pick 279, Winker could be a fantasy steal if he can stay on the field this season.
