Fantasy Baseball News Last 90 Days

  • Brandon Crawford, Mitch Haniger Improving

San Francisco Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford (knee) will return to the Cactus League lineup this week. Meanwhile, outfielder Mitch Haniger (oblique) has started throwing and hitting in camp. Outfielder Austin Slater (hamstring) isn't doing any baseball activities with nine days until Opening Day. Crawford received a cortisone injection in his left knee last week and still has a shot to be ready to kick off the 2023 season, although at this point in his career he's not much of a mixed-league asset in fantasy. Haniger is making progress from a Grade 1 oblique strain, but he's unlikely to be ready for Opening Day at this point. Slater is expected to miss three to four weeks after straining his left hamstring in a spring contest last Thursday.

  • Mitch Haniger Uncertain For Opening Day

San Francisco Giants outfielderMitch Haniger(oblique) may not be ready for Opening Day, according to John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle. Haniger suffered a Grade 1 oblique strain on Friday during an at-bat. The 32-year-old has had an injury-plagued career, and this is the latest setback for him. He was signed by the Giants this offseason after an injury-abbreviated 2022 with the Seattle Mariners. Haniger hit .246/.308/.429 with 11 home runs over 247 plate appearances last season. He was set to be the Giants' right fielder in 2023. RotoBaller has him ranked as the 171st player, but another injury could hurt that ranking in the future.

  • Mitch Haniger Considered Day-To-Day

San Francisco Giants outfielder Mitch Haniger (oblique) is considered day-to-day after suffering an injury ahead of Friday's Cactus League matchup. The right-handed slugger was scratched from the lineup earlier in the day for unknown reasons. It appears Haniger is dealing with oblique tightness, which could hold him out for a few days, according to manager Gabe Kapler. The 32-year-old only managed to play 57 games last season, so hopefully he can stay healthy in 2023. The Giants signed Haniger to a significant three-year deal over the offseason. Hopefully, this is a minor issue and Haniger returns to the lineup soon.
