  • Red Sox Place Trevor Story On 60-Day Injured List

The Boston Red Sox placed shortstop Trevor Story (elbow) on the 60-day injured list to make room for recently signed infielder Yu Chang on the 40-man roster. Story said on Wednesday that he's hoping to return for the second half of the season after having an internal-bracing procedure done on his UCL last month. It obviously doesn't make the 30-year-old very attractive in single-year fantasy formats in 2023, and there's still a chance he may not play at all this year if his rehab doesn't go as planned. With Adalberto Mondesi (knee) not expected to be ready for Opening Day, Enrique Hernandez is fully expected to open the season at the 6 for Boston. Chang will give the BoSox some infield depth in the meantime.

  • Trevor Story Hoping To Return In Second Half

Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story (elbow) said the best-case scenario for him in 2023 would be a second-half return. The worst-case scenario would be that he doesn't play at all this year, but he's currently feeling good and expects to return after the All-Star break. The 30-year-old had an internal-bracing procedure to fix the UCL in his right elbow last month and was given a four- to six-month recovery timetable. The possibility that Story could miss all of the 2023 campaign is reason enough to avoid him in fantasy this year in most leagues. With Story out for at least the first half of the season, the Red Sox will most likely be using Enrique Hernandez at shortstop with Adalberto Mondesi (knee) unlikely to be ready by Opening Day.

  • Players That Could Move To The 60-Day IL Once Spring Training Begins

Just about every baseball team has a full 40-man roster now, with the Astros the only team with an open spot at the moment. That means that just about every transaction, be it a free agent signing or a waiver claim, requires a corresponding move. However, that could soon change as the injured list is…

  • Trevor Story Expects To Play In 2023

Boston Red Sox middle infielder Trevor Story (elbow) said he should be able to play at some point in 2023. "Yeah. Oh yeah. In my mind, yeah," Story said when asked whether he'll play this season. The 30-year-old had an internal bracing procedure on the UCL in his right elbow last week and will not be ready for the start of the 2023 campaign. Typical recovery time from this procedure is around four to six months. Boston was planning to have Story be their starting shortstop this year with Xander Bogaerts now in San Diego, but now they're planning to use Enrique Hernandez at the 6 and Christian Arroyo at second to begin the season. RotoBaller currently has Story listed outside the top-50 middle infielders for 2023. He struggled to stay healthy in his first year in Beantown in 2022 and hit .238/.303/.434 with a .737 OPS, 16 homers, 66 RBI, 53 runs and 13 stolen bases in 396 plate appearances.

  • Trevor Story Undergoes Elbow Surgery, Will Miss Time

Boston Red Sox middle infielder Trevor Story (elbow) underwent an elbow procedure on Monday, per a tweet from the team's official Twitter account on Tuesday. Story underwent a successful internal bracing procedure of the right ulnar collateral ligament and is expected to miss time to begin the 2023 season. Dr. Keith Meister performed the surgery at Texas Metroplex Institute in Arlington, Texas. Story hit .238 in his first season with the Red Sox in 2022, logging a .303 on-base percentage, 16 home runs and 13 stolen bases in 396 plate appearances while seeing all of his playing time at second base. With Xander Bogaerts now in San Diego, Story is expected to serve as Boston's regular shortstop whenever he's cleared to play following his surgery.
