Marcus Stroman To Start Opening Day

Chicago Cubs right-hander Marcus Stroman announced on his Twitter account on Wednesday that he will be the team's Opening Day starter in 2023. Stroman will be on the mound at home next Thursday against the Milwaukee Brewers to kick off the Cubs' 148th season. In 2022, Stroman posted a 6-7 record, 3.50 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and 119 strikeouts over 25 starts in what was his first season in Chicago. Stroman should serve as a solid fantasy starting pitcher heading into 2023.

Marcus Stroman Will Start Cactus League Opener Saturday

Chicago Cubs manager David Ross announced that right-hander Marcus Stroman will make the start on Saturday against the San Francisco Giants in the team's Cactus League opener. If everything goes according to plan, Stroman should also start on Opening Day for the Cubs in his second season with the team. The 31-year-old veteran went 6-7 with a 3.50 ERA (3.76 FIP), 1.15 WHIP and 20.9 percent strikeout rate in 138 2/3 innings over his 25 starts in his first year in Chicago in 2022. Stroman had some problems with the long ball, especially at Wrigley Field, so that will be something to keep an eye on this year. The ground-ball pitcher will need to induce more ground balls in 2023 to make up for the fact that he doesn't strike out a ton of batters.
