  • Eugenio Suarez Homers Versus Pirates

Cincinnati Reds third baseman Eugenio Suarez went 1-for-4 with a solo homer and two strikeouts in a 14-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday. Suarez connected for his solo shot off of Pittsburgh starter Mitch Keller in the second inning. The veteran infielder is hitting just .134 with six homers, 16 runs, and 13 RBI in 119 at-bats. Two of his homers and four RBI have come over his past seven games. Some of his struggles can be attributed to the fact that Suarez is not hitting the ball hard this season, ranking in the sixth percentile in hard-hit rate at 27.5%, well below his career average of 36.6%. The veteran infielder remains a hold in fantasy but he needs to be on benches until he starts swinging the bat better.

  • Eugenio Suarez Homers In Friday Win

Cincinnati Reds shortstop Eugenio Suarez went 1-for-4 with a solo homer in an 8-6 win over the Chicago Cubs on Friday. Suarez connected with a Jake Arrieta offering in the fourth inning, giving him four homers on the year. It has been slow going for Suarez thus far, as he's hitting just .130 with 14 runs and nine RBI in 92 at-bats. Suarez ranks in the 79th percentile in barrel rate, but he's striking out at a 38.1% rate and has just a 12th percentile hard-hit rate. Suarez is usually above average in hard-hit rate, with his season-low since 2018 ranking in the 60th percentile since 2018. He is too talented to drop but Suarez needs to be on fantasy benches until he shows more signs of consistency.

  • Eugenio Suarez Homers On Thursday

Cincinnati Reds shortstop Eugenio Suarez went 1-for-5 with a two-run homer in a 14-11 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday. Suarez hit a two-run shot in the sixth inning of the ballgame, giving him three homers on the year and his first since April 10. Suarez is off to a rough start in 2021, hitting just .169 with 13 runs and seven RBI across 65 at-bats. Things have been even worse over his last seven games as he's hitting just .100 over that span. His bat is too valuable to drop him in fantasy but he should be on benches until he starts to show more consistency at the plate.

  • Eugenio Suarez Slumps To .173 On The Year

Cincinnati Reds shortstop Eugenio Suarez went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in a 6-3 loss to the Cleveland Indians on Sunday. It has been a rough month of April for Suarez, who is hitting just .173 with two homers, 11 runs, and five RBI in 52 at-bats. The veteran is not showing many signs of life as he has an expected batting average of just .175 and just an 85.6 MPH exit velocity, which ranks in just the 11th percentile in the league. If fantasy gamers are looking for a glimmer of hope, Suarez does have a 10.3% barrel rate, which is above average in the league at the 62nd percentile. Suarez still has time to turn things around and brings 40-homer potential to the shortstop position, so his fantasy managers will need to stay patient.

  • Eugenio Suarez Hitting Just .118 Through 13 Games

Cincinnati Reds third baseman Eugenio Suarez is off to a sluggish start to the 2021 season. Through 13 games, he's slashing .188/.322/.396 with two home runs, four doubles, nine walks, five RBI and 11 runs. He has a hard-hit rate of just 27.6%, which ranks amongst the bottom 10% of the league and is substantially lower than his hard-hit rate last year, 44.7%. He also has a troubling xBA of .175 and a high strikeout rate of 33.9%. Suarez is a streaky hitter and he was one of the many streaky hitters who suffered from a shortened 2020 season. He finished the year hitting just .202, though he did hit 15 home runs. Fantasy managers who have Suarez on their roster should get used to the streaky play. There will be some rough stretches, but his season-long numbers should turn out fine.

  • Eugenio Suarez Hits Second Homer

Cincinnati Reds shortstop Eugenio Suarez went 2-for-3 with two runs, a walk, and a solo homer in an 8-3 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday. Suarez connected with an eighth-inning pitch to log his second home run of the young season. The veteran is off to a slow start this season, hitting .200 with the two homers, seven runs, and four RBI in 25 at-bats. Perhaps adding to the slow start, his transition from third base to shortstop hasn't been all that smooth, with Suarez committing three errors thus far. That being said, the Reds seem committed to the experiment, so look for Suarez to have shortstop eligibility soon in most leagues. The veteran has a long track record of success at the plate, so fantasy gamers will want to stay patient with him.

  • Eugenio Suarez Getting A Breather Wednesday

Cincinnati Reds shortstop Eugenio Suarez is not in the lineup for his team's Wednesday afternoon game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Suarez will be replaced at shortstop by Kyle Farmer as he gets his first day off of the young season. It has been a rough opening to the year for Suarez, who was shifted over to shortstop from third base during the spring. He has already made three errors in the field and is hitting just .111 with one homer in 18 at-bats. Hopefully the day off gives him a chance to regroup and get himself turned around at the plate going forward. Fantasy gamers rostering Suarez will want to remain patient as he has loads of fantasy potential in his bat.

  • Eugenio Suarez's Average Dips To .111

Cincinnati Reds shortstop Eugenio Suarez went 0-for-4 with a run in a 14-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday. The hitless outing drops Suarez's batting average to just .111 in 18 at-bats. He has one homer, four runs, and two RBI on the young season. It is still early and Suarez has plenty of time to get turned around, although one has to wonder if his struggles in the field at shortstop have played into his performance at the plate. After spending most of his career at third base, Suarez has made three errors at shortstop in the Reds' first five games. Fantasy gamers will want to stay patient with Suarez despite the struggles as he could have a big year, especially hitting in the middle of what has been a dominant Cincy lineup thus far.

  • Eugenio Suarez Homers, Commits Two Errors

Cincinnati Reds shortstop Eugenio Suarez went 1-for-3 with a solo homer and two walks in an 11-6 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Opening Day. It wasn't all positive, however, as Suarez committed two errors in the game. He was making his first start at shortstop since the 2018 season and, needless to say, things did not go as planned for the veteran. The Reds reshuffled the majority of their infield this spring, based on the assumption that Suarez could hold his own at shortstop. The team will not abort the experiment just yet but Suarez will need to play better in the field to stick at shortstop.

  • Eugenio Suarez Expected To Be Everyday SS

The Cincinnati Reds are expected to make Eugenio Suarez their everyday shortstop this season, according to general manager Nick Krall. It is highly likely that Suarez is at shortstop on Opening Day when the Reds face off against the St. Louis Cardinals. Krall said, "I feel good about it. He has played well. He has moved really well at short. He's made all the plays in the field. He's done everything you need him to do. I'm excited about it, actually." Suarez at shortstop will allow Mike Moustakas to reclaim third base and gives upstart rookie Jonathan India a shot at winning the second base role. Suarez has 40-homer potential in his bat, making his eventual eligibility at shortstop a bonus for fantasy gamers who roster him.

  • Eugenio Suarez Hits Two-Run Homer

Cincinnati Reds shortstop Eugenio Suarez went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in a 6-5 Cactus League loss to the Texas Rangers on Wednesday. Suarez ripped a fifth-inning pitch over the fence for his first long ball of the spring. Overall, the veteran infielder is hitting .278 with six runs and five RBI in 36 at-bats this spring. It appears that the Reds will open the season with Suarez at shortstop after using him as their starting third baseman over the past several seasons, putting him in line for multi-positional eligibility in fantasy once he logs the requisite number of games at SS.

  • Eugenio Suarez To Start At SS On Tuesday

Cincinnati Reds third baseman Eugenio Suarez will shift over and get the start at shortstop in Tuesday's Cactus League against the Colorado Rockies. Suarez was originally a shortstop in the minors and spent some time in the majors at the position as recently as 2015 before getting moved to third base. Manager David Bell told reporters, "We have to see what it looks like. We're not making any decisions now, we have a lot of options. We have guys willing to do what's best for our team and have bought in to whatever it takes." If Bell likes what he sees from Suarez at shortstop, it could impact several other players on the Cincy roster as the team could move Mike Moustakas to third base, thus opening up a position battle for the everyday second base role. MLB Pipeline's No. 5 prospect Jonathan India has had an excellent spring and could seize the second base job.

  • Eugenio Suarez Reaches Once In Cactus League Loss

Cincinnati Reds third baseman Eugenio Suarez went 0-for-2 with a walk in a 10-4 Cactus League loss to the San Diego Padres on Sunday. Even though he's still looking for his first homer, Suarez has been enjoying a productive spring, hitting .353 with four runs in 17 at-bats. The veteran third baseman is looking to bounce back after posting a subpar season by his standards in 2020. Suarez lost weight over the offseason and appears primed to outperform his draft slot in fantasy leagues.

  • Eugenio Suarez Wants To Hit 50 Home Runs

Cincinnati Reds third baseman Eugenio Suarez, who had a down year in 2020 by hitting .202/.312/.470 with 15 home runs, 38 RBI and a 102 OPS+, said he wants to hit 50 home runs this year. Suarez hit .118 with two homers and 25 strikeouts in 82 plate appearances in his first 20 games, and he could never get on track in the shortened season. The right-handed power hitter is noticeably leaner and stronger physically this spring after he made changes to his diet. The 29-year-old also won't have to rehab his shoulder after having surgery last January. Suarez's BABIP of .214 was almost 100 points below his career mark of .310, and he had a career-high 14 percent barrel rate last year. There's plenty to suggest he could bounce back after hitting a career-high 49 homers and driving in 103 as recently as 2019.

Buddy Take The deadened baseball might have something to say about this.

  • Eugenio Suarez Lost Weight Over Offseason

Cincinnati Reds third baseman Eugenio Suarez will report to Spring Training in much better shape than he was in during the 2020 season. Suarez told reporters on Wednesday that he lost about 15 pounds during the offseason by concentrating on eating a better diet. He went on to state that he felt slow last season and that his footwork wasn't where he wanted it to be. Suarez turned in a mildly disappointing 2020 season at the plate, hitting just .202 with 15 homers, 29 runs, and 38 RBI across 198 at-bats. A lowered playing weight is far from a guarantee but it certainly can't hurt this production. Suarez has some bounce-back potential and could reward fantasy managers who take a chance on him in drafts this spring.

  • Injury To Blame For Eugenio Suarez's Down Season?

Cincinnati Reds third baseman Eugenio Suarez had surgery in January of last year after a freak right shoulder injury, and it could've been largely responsible for his down 2020 season. He hit .118/.268/.235 with just four extra-base hits in his first 20 games. Suarez slashed a more respectable .246/.336/.592 with 19 extra-base hits and 13 home runs over the rest of the season in 37 games. But his overall line of .202/.312/.470 showed that he was never able to recover, and a strikingly low .214 BABIP didn't help. The good news is that the 29-year-old power hitter had a 14.4 percent barrel rate, which was a career-high and 16th-best in baseball. Back to full health, Suarez should be able to rebound in the average department as one of the better power hitters in the league. He's a top-10 fantasy third baseman and is going, on average, around pick No. 79.
