  • Anthony Rendon Placed On Injured List

    Headshot for Anthony Rendon

Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (hamstring) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Sunday afternoon. The veteran infielder exited Saturday's game early after straining his hamstring while running out a single. It is unfortunate timing for the 33-year-old as he was just rediscovering his consistency at the plate. Ehire Adrianza was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake as a corresponding move, but it is more likely that Luis Rengifo and Miguel Sano see the majority of playing time at the hot corner. Rengifo is worth an add in any deeper leagues where he is available due to his multi-position eligibility and stolen base upside.

  • Anthony Rendon Dealing With A Hamstring Injury

    Headshot for Anthony Rendon

Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (hamstring) exited Saturday's game against the Cincinnati Reds early with a hamstring injury. Rendon injured himself while running out an infield single. The 33-year-old came off the field with the trainers and was replaced by Zach Neto. Rendon found his groove at the place recently, slashing .382/.421/.833 with three RBI and five runs scored over his last eight games. The severity of his hamstring injury is unknown at this time, and he's considered day-to-day. Luis Rengifo and Miguel Sano should see an uptick in at-bats while Rendon is sidelined. Rengifo is a speculative add in all leagues after hitting .283 (15-for-53) with six stolen bases over 16 games in 2024.

  • Logan O'Hoppe, Anthony Rendon Resting Against Rays

    Headshot for Logan O'Hoppe

Los Angeles Angels catcher Logan O'Hoppe, third baseman Anthony Rendon and first baseman Nolan Schanuel are all on the bench on Wednesday versus the Tampa Bay Rays and right-hander Zack Littell. Matt Thaiss is catching and batting eighth, Miguel Sano is at third base and hitting fifth, and Brandon Drury is at first base and batting in the six-hole for the Halos. Luis Rengifo is also at the keystone and hitting leadoff on Wednesday. Rengifo will gain some DFS appeal in this one while hitting atop the order. The 27-year-old Venezuelan infielder has been the odd-man out on the Angels' infield so far early this year, but he's been good when active, going 8-for-22 (.364) with two doubles, two RBI and two stolen bases in 23 plate appearances.

  • Anthony Rendon An Option To Hit Leadoff?

    Headshot for Anthony Rendon

Los Angeles Angels manager Ron Washington said that he's experimenting with leadoff hitters, which is why third baseman Anthony Rendon was hitting first in the order in the Cactus League game on Wednesday versus the San Francisco Giants. Washington said that the team doesn't have an ideal leadoff hitter, but Rendon does have a knack for getting on base with a career on-base percentage of .367 and 11 percent walk rate in 11 big-league seasons. The 33-year-old has mostly hit third or fourth in his four years with the Angles, which have been marred by injuries. Rendon hasn't played more than 58 games in any of his four years in Anaheim, which has basically made him avoidable in all mixed fantasy leagues going into 2024.

  • Anthony Rendon Could Take Live At-Bats Thursday

    Headshot for Anthony Rendon

Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (groin) says he is feeling better and could take live at-bats on Thursday. He added he will be playing "soon". "It was more just soreness. We were just trying to prevent anything bigger, especially so early in camp," Rendon said. The veteran's tenure with the Angels has been plagued by injuries since he signed a seven-year, $245 million deal with the team prior to the 2020 season. He has played a total of just 200 games across four years (including the shortened 2020 season) with the Angels and has struggled in that time. Most recently, he hit .236 with two home runs and two stolen bases alongside a .679 OPS across 43 games in the 2023 season. His fantasy value is at an all-time low and he should be left alone in all formats.

  • Anthony Rendon Working Out Wednesday

    Headshot for Anthony Rendon

Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (groin) is going through a regular workout in camp on Wednesday. Rendon was shut down in spring training for a few days after having some groin discomfort on Sunday. It looks like the issue isn't too serious, though, so the 33-year-old veteran could return to Cactus League action by the weekend if he continues to progress. Still, it's been one injury after another since Rendon signed a seven-year deal with the Angels before the 2020 season. In his four years in Anaheim, he's played in only 200 games and has hit .249/.359/.399 with 22 homers and 111 RBI in 857 trips to the plate. His extensive injury history, combined with his decline in power production (most likely due to injuries), makes him hard to trust in mixed fantasy leagues at this point.

  • Anthony Rendon Dealing With Groin Discomfort

    Headshot for Anthony Rendon

Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (groin) has been dealing with some groin discomfort since Sunday, which is why he hasn't played in the Cactus League in a couple of days. Manager Ron Washington said he isn't concerned with the injury, though, and the hope is that Rendon is back in the lineup on Thursday. However, the Angels won't throw the injury-prone third baseman back out there until the pain is gone. The 33-year-old should hit in the middle of LA's batting order in 2024 and serve more as the designated hitter with Shohei Ohtani now gone, but how many games can fantasy managers really expect Rendon to play in? He's played in just 148 total games in the last three seasons combined. He still has great plate discipline, but Rendon has become untrustworthy in standard-sized fantasy leagues.
