  • Manny Machado Not In Lineup Friday

San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado (ankle) is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Machado returned to action on Thursday as the DH after missing over a week, going 1-for-4 with a double, a run, and three strikeouts but will be sidelined yet again on Friday. The Padres are likely easing Machado back into action after his ankle sprain as there has been no indication that he aggravated the injury on Thursday. Saturday's lineup will be a good indication as to where Machado's ankle stands moving forward.

  • Manny Machado Returns As DH Against Dodgers

San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado (ankle) has returned to the starting lineup on Thursday for the series opener against the division-rival Los Angeles Dodgers and right-hander Mitch White. Machado will serve as the designated hitter and will bat second in his first game since Father's Day on June 19. The 29-year-old superstar has hit a red-hot .328/.400/.545 with a .945 OPS, 12 home runs, 46 RBI, 48 runs scored and seven stolen bases in 285 plate appearances over 66 games, and he should absolutely be returned to all starting lineups in single-year leagues against the Dodgers. Ha-Seong Kim will continue to man third base, and he's hitting eighth in the batting order on Thursday.

  • Manny Machado Sitting Tuesday, But Getting Close

San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado (ankle) will remain on the bench for Tuesday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The 29-year-old is nearly 10 days removed from suffering an ankle sprain and he hasn't played since. On Tuesday, he continued to increase his pre-game workouts. He ran the bases, took grounders and threw to first without showing any noticeable pain. According to Padres beat writer Kevin Acee, it was the first time Machado looked like he was ready to play since he sustained the injury. Based on his increased work and Acee's report, it seems as if there's a good chance we see Machado back on the field for Wednesday's series finale. Make sure to be on the lookout for Wednesday's lineup card.

  • Manny Machado Takes Batting Practice, Remains Out Saturday

San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado (ankle) took batting practice before Saturday's game but remains out of the lineup against the Philadelphia Phillies. The 29-year-old fantasy star is inching his way back to the starting lineup after spraining his ankle last Sunday. It seems like Machado will indeed end up avoiding the injured list, which is what the Padres were hoping for. If things go well, we could see Machado back in the starting lineup very soon, possibly even Sunday. Keep a close eye on his status in the coming days, and get him back in your lineup as soon as he returns.

  • Padres Have Optimism Manny Machado Will Avoid IL

San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado (ankle) is out of the starting lineup for his team's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday. Machado injured his ankle running on Sunday in an incident that looked serious at the time. On Monday, the Padres expressed some optimism that Machado will be able to avoid a stay on the injured list. According to reports, Machado's ankle is bruised but he is able to move around on it. Of course, things could change in the next day or two if Machado doesn't show improvement, but as of now, it appears he will not need a stay on the IL. Machado is hitting .328 with 12 homers, 48 runs, 46 RBI, and seven RBI over 253 at-bats in 2022. Ha-Seong Kim is starting at third base in Machado's place on Monday.

  • C.J. Abrams Expected To Be Recalled

Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reported on Sunday that San Diego Padres shortstop C.J. Abrams was pulled from the lineup for Triple-A El Paso and could be headed to the big-league squad. Padres third baseman Manny Machado (ankle) suffered a left ankle sprain on Sunday and could be sidelined for the immediate future. If Machado is sidelined, Abrams is likely to slot right into the Padres lineup. More should be known on the extent of Machado's status on Monday, but his status will be relevant to how much playing time Abrams would receive in the majors. Abrams is one of the top prospects in the game and broke camp with the Padres, but struggled with a .182 batting average, one home run, four RBI and a stolen base in 55 at-bats. Despite his struggles at the big-league level, Abrams has put up strong numbers in Triple-A with seven home runs, 28 RBI and 10 stolen bases to go along with a healthy .314 batting average. Abrams' contributions will hinge on Machado's status, but managers should take a flier on Abrams and see how his situation plays from there.

  • Manny Machado Avoids Serious Injury

San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado (ankle) was forced to exit early during Sunday's game against the Colorado Rockies. He stepped awkwardly trying to beat out a grounder to first base. Machado wasn't able to put much weight on his ankle and walked off the field with two trainers. Luckily, the X-rays were negative and the Padres are calling the issue a left ankle sprain. It's uncertain if Machado will land on the injured list. The good news is, Machado isn't expected to miss much time if any at all.

San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado went 2-for-5 with two singles and a strikeout in the team's 2-0 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday. He's only recorded one extra-base hit (a double) over his last 11 starts and he's slugging .483 in May, down from .614 in April. • Manny Machado Continues Surging Start

San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado has been among the hottest hitters in the game to start the season, slashing .358/.433/.623 through his first 59 plate appearances of 2022. He's been even better over his last seven games, with four multi-hit performances, three homers, and two steals in that span. Over 153 games, Machado hit .278 with 28 HRs, 12 SBs, 106 RBI, and 92 runs scored. His stolen base Saturday signals he wants to continue running at least a little bit, so he should once again provide fantasy managers with the coveted power/speed combination.
