  • Diamondbacks Activate Randal Grichuk

    Headshot for Randal Grichuk

April 5: The Diamondbacks have made it official, announcing that they have reinstated Grichuk and optioned Barrosa. April 4: Randal Grichuk appears to be on the verge of his Diamondbacks debut, as John Gambadoro of 98.7FM Phoenix (X link) reports that the outfielder is expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list prior to...

  • Diamondbacks Reinstate Randal Grichuk From Injured List

    Headshot for Randal Grichuk

The Arizona Diamondbacks reinstated outfielder Randal Grichuk (ankle) from the 10-day injured list on Friday and optioned outfield prospect Jorge Barrosa to Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move. Grichuk is not in the team's starting lineup on Friday versus the Atlanta Braves, and the 32-year-old veteran outfielder will operate more as a fourth outfielder for Arizona than as an everyday player. Grichuk is finally ready to go in 2024 after recovering from ankle surgery he had in January. In a reserve role, he'll really only be useful as outfield depth in NL-only leagues for his occasional power. After being traded from the Rockies to Angels in 2023, Grichuk hit just .216 (42-for-194) with eight homers and 17 RBI in 54 games.

  • Randal Grichuk A Good Bet To Open On Injured List

    Headshot for Randal Grichuk

Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo stopped short of saying that outfielder Randal Grichuk (ankle) will open the year on the injured list, but the skipper left little doubt. Lovullo said that Grichuk would be ready to serve as the designated hitter but that "just having a DH and not giving somebody a chance to play on the other side of the ball would not be fair to him or the team." The 32-year-old is recovering from surgery to remove a bone spur from his right ankle in February and is unlikely to be on the Opening Day roster. When Grichuk is healthy, he'll serve as outfield insurance for the Snakes after hitting .267/.321/.459 with 16 home runs and 44 RBI in 118 games with the Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Angels in 2023. Grichuk hasn't hit 20 homers since 2021 and lost most of his fantasy appeal when he left Colorado last year.

  • Randal Grichuk Progressing

    Headshot for Randal Grichuk

Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Randal Grichuk (ankle) is likely to begin the season the 10-day injured list after undergoing ankle surgery to remove bone spurs in January. The Diamondbacks have not ruled the veteran out for Opening Day, but he has yet to appear in any Cactus League games to this point. Manager Torey Lovullo said, "He's still progressing . We want him to be ready for Opening Day, but we're just not sure about that right now." The outfielder came over as a free agent this offseason and is expected to be a rotational piece in the outfield for the Diamondbacks. Despite offering solid power, Grichuk is unlikely to make much of an impact with other options ahead of him on the big-league roster. He can safely be avoided in all formats at the moment.

  • Randal Grichuk Hopeful To Be Ready For Opening Day

    Headshot for Randal Grichuk

Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Randal Grichuk (ankle) is hopeful to be ready by Opening Day. The veteran outfielder had bone chips removed from his ankle in January. He recently signed a one-year deal with the D-Backs. It sounds like the 32-year-old is going to need a couple of weeks before he's ready to play again. Last season, Grichuk hit .267/.321/.459 with 16 home runs, 44 RBI between the Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Angels. He'll probably end up as a fourth outfielder, but he should get fairly regular at-bats in Arizona.

2:03PM: The Diamondbacks have officially announced Grichuk’s signing, and created 40-man roster space by moving right-hander Drey Jameson to the 60-day injured list.  Jameson underwent Tommy John surgery in September and is expected to miss the entire 2024 season. 10:45AM: The Diamondbacks have signed outfielder Randal Grichuk to a one-year deal worth $2MM in guaranteed…

  • Randal Grichuk Agrees To One-Year Deal With Diamondbacks

    Headshot for Randal Grichuk

Free-agent outfielder Randal Grichuk and the Arizona Diamondbacks agreed to a one-year, $2 million deal that includes a mutual option for the 2025 season on Saturday, according to sources. The deal will pay Grichuk $1.5 million in 2024, and the option is worth $6 million with a $500,000 buyout and performance bonuses included. At best, Grichuk will probably be a fourth-outfield type for the D-backs in 2024 and fill in for either Alek Thomas or Corbin Carroll to give them days off against left-handed pitching. The 32-year-old veteran hit .267/.321/.459 with 16 home runs, 44 RBI and 65 runs scored in 118 combined games last year with the Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Angels. He hit over .300 in 64 games in Colorado but just .216 in 54 games with the Halos to close out the year.
