  • Randal Grichuk Back In Action Against Rays

    Headshot for Randal Grichuk

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Randal Grichuk (head) is back in left field and is hitting leadoff for the Halos on Thursday against the Tampa Bay Rays and right-hander Zach Eflin in the series finale. Grichuk took a pitch to the helmet on Tuesday and left the game early and sat out as a precaution on Wednesday, but he's back in there now after clearing the concussion protocols. The 32-year-old veteran is hitting a solid .270 (106-for-393) on the year, but he hasn't done much for the Angels since they acquired him at the trade deadline from the Colorado Rockies. In 44 games in Anaheim, Grichuk has gone 32-for-153 (.209) with seven home runs, eight doubles, a triple, 16 RBI and 17 runs scored in 165 plate appearances.

  • Randal Grichuk Absent From Angels Lineup

    Headshot for Randal Grichuk

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Randal Grichuk (head) is not in the lineup for the Halos on Wednesday against the Tampa Bay Rays on the road. It shouldn't come as a surprise after Grichuk had to leave Tuesday's contest after being hit in the head by a pitch. The good news is that it was only a glancing blow to his helmet and he was able to walk off the field under his own power. Fantasy managers will want to check back to see if he's able to return to action for the series finale on Thursday in Tampa. With Grichuk out, Jo Adell is starting in left field and batting sixth against Rays right-hander Aaron Civale. Adell has been a standout for the Angels on the farm, but he's yet to make his mark in the big leagues in four seasons and has only four hits in 17 at-bats over six games in the majors in 2023 heading into Wednesday's contest.

  • Randal Grichuk Leaves After Getting Hit In The Head

    Headshot for Randal Grichuk

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Randal Grichuk (head) took a pitch to the head in Tuesday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays and was forced to leave the game early. The good news is that he was able to leave the field under his own power. It was a glancing blow that ricocheted off of Grichuk's helmet, so hopefully he was able to avoid a serious head injury. The 32-year-old veteran will most certainly be evaluated for a concussion and should be considered day-to-day for now. Don't be surprised if he's not in the lineup on Wednesday as a precaution. Before leaving early, he went hitless in three at-bats with a strikeout to drop his season average to .270. Grichuk was hitting much better with the Rockies before being acquired by the Angels at the trade deadline. Entering Tuesday's game, he had gone 32-for-150 (213) with seven homers in 43 games for the Halos.

  • Previewing The 2023-24 Free Agent Class: Center Field

    Headshot for Harrison Bader

Throughout the week, we've covered the upcoming free agent class at MLBTR. As Anthony Franco noted earlier today, we’ll now move to the outfield. You can check out that piece for a preview of the left field/right field options available this winter, but we’ll focus here on center field — one of the relatively well-stocked…

  • Luis Rengifo Has Strained Bicep

    Headshot for Trey Cabbage

Los Angeles Angels infielder Luis Rengifo left Thursday's game in the first inning after suffering a strained left bicep. Rengifo was taking practice swings and suddenly grabbed at his left arm, after which he was immediately taken out of the game. The 26-year-old will likely hit the IL, and depending on the severity of the strain this could mark the end of his 2023 season given the short amount of time left and the Angels being out of contention. That would be a blow to fantasy managers who have picked up the streaking Rengifo, who has a .327/.388/.592 slash line since July 1. Randal Grichuk, Trey Cabbage, and Brett Phillips will likely see more playing time while Rengifo is out.

  • Angels Reportedly Place Randal Grichuk Back On Waivers

    Headshot for Randal Grichuk

The Angels have again placed outfielder Randal Grichuk on waivers, reports Bob Nightengale of USA Today (Twitter link). The veteran went unclaimed when the Halos put him on waivers last week. That appears the likeliest outcome this time around. When Grichuk was available last week, he would’ve been eligible for postseason play with a new team.…

  • Randal Grichuk Clears Waivers

    Headshot for Randal Grichuk

Angels outfielder Randal Grichuk was not claimed on outright waivers, reports ESPN’s Jeff Passan. He’ll remain with the Halos unless they surprisingly choose to outright him to a minor league affiliate, at which point Grichuk would have the right to elect free agency. Los Angeles acquired Grichuk from the Rockies on July 30. The veteran…

  • Angels Waive Lucas Giolito, Hunter Renfroe, Randal Grichuk, Others

    Headshot for Lucas Giolito

The Los Angeles Angels have decided to clean house after their trade deadline moves did not pay off for them. On Tuesday, the organization decided to waive pitchers Lucas Giolito, Matt Moore, and Reynaldo Lopez. They also waiving outfielders Hunter Renfroe and Randal Grichuk. The Angels won't be able to trade these players and get anything in return for them. However, the team can get some salary relief, assuming the players are claimed by another organization. The teams with the worst records in baseball will get the first crack at these players. There should be plenty of interest from around the league especially from teams on the cusp of the playoff bubble.

  • C.J. Cron And Randal Grichuk Traded To Angels

    Headshot for C.J. Cron

The Los Angeles Angels acquired outfielder Randal Grichuk and first baseman C.J. Cron from the Colorado Rockies on Sunday. Heading back to the Rockies are Angels prospect pitchers Jake Madden and Mason Albright. Madden is the No. 8 prospect in the Angels system according to MLB Pipeline, and Albright is No. 28. Both Grichuk and Cron will help an Angels lineup that could use more depth, but their fantasy values will take a big hit as a result of moving out of Coors Field. Grichuk was an already fringy outfielder, although he was having a solid season, slashing .308/.365/.496 in 240 at-bats. He will likely only be useful in deep leagues now. Cron has been a more reliable bat for fantasy purposes, but he will probably be pushed to a borderline starting bat with power upside instead of a must-start first baseman. Although most fantasy managers will know the downside of leaving Coors, it's worth a shot to try and sell high on these two.

  • Randal Grichuk On Yankees Radar

    Headshot for Jasson Dominguez

The New York Yankees are leaning toward being buyers at this year's trade deadline, and Colorado Rockies outfielder Randal Grichuk is currently on their radar, according to a person with knowledge of the team's personnel decisions. The Yanks are currently 2.5 games out of the third and final wild-card position after a win over the New York Mets on Wednesday. Team executives don't envision adding much, as they sit at $295 million on the luxury tax payroll, and they don't expect to trade their best prospects in outfielders Jasson Dominguez and Everson Pereira. They're interested in adding someone who could play left field and provide an offensive impact, and Grichuk has been on their radar because he won't cost much. New York has also been connected to the Cardinals' Dylan Carlson and the Cubs' Cody Bellinger.

  • Kris Bryant, Randal Grichuk Return Friday

    Headshot for Kris Bryant

Colorado Rockies outfielders Kris Bryant (forearm) and Randal Grichuk (groin) have both returned to the team's starting lineup on Friday against left-hander Braxton Garrett and the Miami Marlins. Bryant is in right field and batting second, while Grichuk is the designated hitter and batting sixth. X-rays came back negative on Bryant's forearm after he was hit by a pitch on Wednesday, so he's back in there for the weekend after an off day on Thursday. Grichuk has been battling a groin injury and will be playing in just his second game since the All-Star break. Bryant is the safer play for DFS lineups against Miami, and he's gone deep three times in 12 games in the month of July.

  • Randal Grichuk Out With Groin Injury

    Headshot for Randal Grichuk

Colorado Rockies outfielder Randal Grichuk (groin) ran the bases on Tuesday and is getting healthier, but he's not in the starting lineup on Tuesday against the Houston Astros. Grichuk has only played in one game so far in the second half of the season due to his groin injury, but he should be considered day-to-day for now. Brenton Doyle is starting in center field on Tuesday and is hitting ninth in the lineup against Astros right-hander Hunter Brown. Grichuk is hitting .300 (61-for-203) on the year, but his counting stats of five home runs, 18 doubles, one triple, 22 RBI and 33 runs scored in 225 plate appearances over 55 games have left a lot to be desired in his second season at hitter-friendly Coors Field.

  • Yankees Linked To Randal Grichuk

    Headshot for Randal Grichuk

The New York Yankees have been linked to Colorado Rockies outfielder Randal Grichuk, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. The Yankees are in the market for a corner outfielder, and it would make sense that the Rockies would want to trade Grichuk, who is in the final year of his contract. Grichuk is slashing .300/.364/.473 on the year with 33 runs scored, five homers, and 22 RBI over 225 plate appearances and could be a nice addition to a New York lineup that desperately needs healthy bodies. Moving away from Coors would hurt Grichuk's value, although he would have a chance for more counting stats in a better lineup.

Colorado Rockies outfielder Randal Grichuk went 2-for-2 at the plate in a 7-2 win against the New York Yankees Friday. In the contest, Grichuk had a home run, a single and scored two runs. Both hits came off Yankees starting pitcher Carlos Rondon. The 31-year-old has been playing well this season, hitting .300/364/.473. He's logged five home runs and 22 RBI in 225 plate appearances. During the Rockies last seven games, the right-handed batter has been hot, picking up eight hits in 23 at-bats.
