  • J.D. Martinez Resting Friday

Boston Red Sox designated hitter J.D. Martinez is not in the starting lineup on Friday against the Baltimore Orioles. It appears that Martinez is just getting a normal day of rest. Make sure to remove him from your lineups. He could use it, as he's gone just 9-for-52 (.173) with no homers, six RBI and 19 strikeouts in 15 games so far this month to drop his season line to .273/.344/.429 with nine homers, 46 RBI and 57 runs scored in 442 plate appearances. Rob Refsnyder will serve as the designated hitter on Friday and bat seventh against Orioles right-hander Jordan Lyles. Refsnyder is hitting .309 in 94 at-bats for Boston this year, but he has very little pop (four homers) and is a low-upside DFS option.

  • J.D. Martinez Not Starting Against Astros

Boston Red Sox designated hitter J.D. Martinez is not in the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Houston Astros. After not being dealt at Tuesday's trade deadline, the right-handed slugger will take a normal day off. Martinez is hitting .284 on the season with nine home runs, 40 RBI and 52 runs scored, but he's been cold since the All-Star break, going 3-for-30 (.100) with no homers, two RBI and eight strikeouts in eight games. His fantasy managers will be hoping that an off day on Wednesday can get him going again. Rafael Devers, who just returned from the injured list on Tuesday, will serve as the DH and bat third on Wednesday against Astros right-hander Jose Urquidy, with Christian Arroyo manning third and batting sixth.

  • J.D. Martinez, Nathan Eovaldi, Christian Vazquez Could Be Traded

Boston Red Sox outfielder J.D. Martinez, catcher Christian Vazquez, and pitcher Nathan Eovaldi could be moved by the trade deadline. According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, Martinez, Vazquez, and Eovaldi are all free agents to be and among the candidates to be traded. It remains to be seen where they will be traded; with Boston at a 50-52 record, the Red Sox will likely be sellers at the deadline. Martinez and Vasquez shouldn't take much of a hit in fantasy if moved, while Eovaldi could earn chances for more wins by moving to a playoff contender. Stay tuned.

  • Mets Looking Into J.D. Martinez And Christian Vazquez

The New York Mets have scouts attending the Boston Red Sox's Friday night affair against the Milwaukee Brewers, according to Ken Rosenthal. They are mainly there to see Red Sox outfielder J.D. Martinez and catcher Christian Vazquez. The Mets have been involved in rumors circulating around Chicago Cubs relief pitcher David Robertson and catcher Willson Contreras, but according to Rosenthal, they could pivot to a trade with the Red Sox if the Cubs price is too steep. If this is what ends up happening, expect the Mets to look for another deal to address their bullpen. If the trade does end up happening, the value of Martinez and Vasquez might see a slight boost in fantasy when lineup context is taken into account, but nothing too major.

  • J.D. Martinez Reportedly Available In Trade Market

The Boston Red Sox have dropped four of five games since the All-Star break and are currently sitting in last place in the AL East at 49-49. With each loss, it's looking more and more likely that the team could be a seller at the trade deadline. On his Baseball Tonight podcast on Tuesday, Buster Olney stated that Red Sox outfielder J.D. Martinez "is out in the trade market." The 34-year-old is set to be an unrestricted free agent after this year, so it would certainly make sense for the club to move him if they weren't feeling confident in their playoff chances. Martinez is hitting .299/.367/.477 with nine home runs, 30 doubles, 38 RBI and 51 runs on the year.

  • J.D. Martinez Returns To Starting Lineup Tuesday

Boston Red Sox outfielder J.D. Martinez (back) is back in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cleveland Guardians. He will be hitting cleanup and slotting in as designated hitter. This will be Martinez's first action since the All-Star game. He has been sidelined due to back spasms, though he was reportedly available off the bench for Monday's game. The 34-year-old had a great first half of the 2022 season, slashing .302/.368/.481 with nine home runs, 30 doubles, 38 RBI and 51 runs over 81 games.

  • Red Sox Reportedly Listening To Offers For J.D. Martinez

As the Red Sox continue to flounder through the month of July, there are increasing levels of speculation that Boston could sell off some short-term veterans — even if they continue to opportunistically look to add longer-term pieces who’ll help in 2023 and beyond. To that end, ESPN’s Buster Olney said on today’s Baseball Tonight…

  • J.D. Martinez Was Available To Play Monday

Boston Red Sox outfielder J.D. Martinez (back) did not play in Monday's 3-1 win over the Guardians but was available, per Red Sox beat writer Chris Cotillo. The 34-year-old has now missed four consecutive games with back spasms, but the fact that he was available is a positive sign. Fantasy managers will be glad to see him return to their lineups, as he is slashing .302/.368/.481 with nine home runs and 38 RBI. Fantasy managers should keep an eye on the lineup card Tuesday, but it sounds as though Martinez could make his second-half debut.

  • J.D. Martinez Out Again On Monday

Boston Red Sox outfielder J.D. Martinez (back) will miss his fourth straight game on Monday as the team takes on the Cleveland Guardians. Martinez is currently hampered by back spasms. He has yet to take the field since play resumed following the All-Star break. Rob Refsnyder is serving as designated hitter with Martinez on the sidelines Monday.

  • J.D. Martinez Still Out Saturday

Boston Red Sox outfielder/designated hitter J.D. Martinez (back) remains out of the starting lineup on Saturday against the Toronto Blue Jays after he was scratched from Friday's lineup due to back spasms. It's not a good sign that the 34-year-old slugger is already injured coming out of the All-Star break, but fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. Martinez is hitting .302/.368/.481 this year with an .849 OPS, nine home runs, 38 RBI and 51 runs scored, so losing him for an extended period of time would hurt the Red Sox and fantasy managers alike. Franchy Cordero is serving as the designated hitter and batting fifth, while Bobby Dalbec starts at first base and is hitting sixth against Blue Jays right-hander Alek Manoah on Saturday.

  • J.D. Martinez Scratched Due To Back Spasms

Boston Red Sox outfielder J.D. Martinez (back) was scratched from the starting lineup Friday against the Toronto Blue Jays with back spasms. It should be noted that Martinez had a busy few days, flying to Los Angeles for the all-star game and then flying back to Boston for tonight's game. The Red Sox might just be giving the 34-year-old veteran an extra day to rest. Nevertheless, fantasy managers should keep an eye on the situation over the weekend and be prepared to replace Martinez if the injury worsens. That won't be easy, though, as the slugger owns a .302/.368/.481 slash line to go along with 51 runs, 38 RBI, and nine homers.

  • J.D. Martinez Back In Action For Wednesday's Contest

Boston Red Sox outfielder J.D. Martinez is back in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays after a one-game absence. Martinez was dealing with soreness prior to Tuesday's game, according to Red Sox manager Alex Cora. Luckily, the ailment only cost him a single game. Martinez is currently sixth in the majors in batting with a .313 average. His power output has been lacking a bit as he's slugging .500 with nine home runs over 76 games, but his .570 xSLG suggests that he's been a bit unlucky. Make sure to slide him back into your lineup for Wednesday's slate.

  • J.D. Martinez Experiencing Soreness

Boston Red Sox outfielder J.D. Martinez was held out of Tuesday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays due to some soreness, according to Red Sox manager Alex Cora. It's unclear right now as to how serious the ailment is and if it will cost him additional time going forward. The 34-year-old was recently added to the AL All-Star team roster. He's had a fantastic season thus far, slashing .313/.380/.500 with nine home runs, 38 RBI and 50 runs over 76 games. Stay tuned for updates on his availability for Wednesday's game.

  • J.D. Martinez, Trevor Story Sitting Out On Sunday

Boston Red Sox outfielder J.D. Martinez and second baseman Trevor Story are both getting the day off on Sunday as the team closes out its three-game series against the Chicago Cubs. Christian Arroyo will be covering second base for the game while Franchy Cordero will be slotting in at designated hitter. Martinez has been struggling lately, going just 1-for-21 across his last five games. However, he still owns a strong .307/.377/.487 slash line on the year. Story, meanwhile, has been stuck in a near season-long slump as he's slashed just .222/.298/.411 with 12 homers over 71 games on the year.

  • J.D. Martinez Looks To Break Recent Slump Vs. Guardians

After getting off to a hot start in April and May, Boston Red Sox designated hitter J.D. Martinez is struggling a bit in June. After slashing .406/.467/.604 in May, Martinez is slashing just .247/.325/.452 in June with three home runs and seven RBI. In addition, Martinez is slashing just .091/.125/.091 in the last week heading into a three-game series this weekend against the streaking Cleveland Guardians. Martinez is a risky play right now in standard fantasy leagues until he breaks out of his slump.

  • J.D. Martinez Goes 2-for-3, Doubles Versus Angels

Boston Red Sox designated hitter J.D. Martinez went 2-for-3 with a double on Monday as the Red Sox beat the Los Angeles Angels 1-0 in the series opener. Martinez is currently on a four-game hitting streak, and the 34-year-old is 5-for-16 over that stretch with two extra-base hits and three runs scored. Martinez is off to a great start in 2022. So far this season, Martinez ranks in the 90th percentile in barrel rate, the 98th percentile in xSLG and the 98th percentile in xOBA. For his career, Martinez is 1-for-2 lifetime against Reid Detmers, Tuesday's starting pitcher for the Angels.

  • J.D. Martinez Resting Sunday

Boston Red Sox outfielder/designated hitter J.D. Martinez is not in the starting lineup on Sunday against the Oakland Athletics. Martinez will get a regular day of rest in the series finale after starting seven straight games since May 29. The four-time All-Star slugger has been phenomenal for fantasy managers in 2022, slashing .353/.415/.543 with a .959 OPS, five home runs, 23 RBI and 33 runs scored in 195 plate appearances over 44 games played. He's a no-brainer must-start when he's in the lineup. Jarren Duran will be the DH and will hit leadoff, while Franchy Cordero is in right field and is batting seventh on Sunday against A's right-hander Frankie Montas. Duran went 2-for-5 in his second game for Boston on Saturday, and he'll be an intriguing DFS play with upside in the leadoff spot.

Boston Red Sox outfielder J.D. Martinez (back) is back in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Chicago White Sox. He will be the team's designated hitter for the game and he'll be batting third. Martinez was a literal last minute scratch from Sunday's game against the Seattle Mariners due to back spasms. He was able to use the team's day off on Monday to recover. Martinez has been fantastic at the plate so far this year. Over 33 games, he's slashing .349/.390/.581 with five home runs, 20 RBI and 20 runs.

  • J.D. Martinez A Last-Minute Scratch On Sunday

Boston Red Sox outfielder J.D. Martinez (back) was scratched from the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Seattle Mariners just moments before the game began. The veteran is reportedly dealing with back spasms. He was originally slated to play designated hitter in the game, but Christian Arroyo is now filling in as the team's designated hitter.
