  • Padres Still Considering Tommy Pham

    Headshot for Tommy Pham

The San Diego Padres are still considering signing free-agent outfielder Tommy Pham, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman. San Diego remains linked to Pham after the two sides were reportedly close to reaching an agreement in mid-March, and the 36-year-old left fielder could supply some depth to the Padres' thin outfield. As long as the switch-hitting Jurickson Profar, who is batting .269 with an .809 OPS and three RBI covering 26 at-bats this season, is playing well, they may not be as inclined to net the veteran's services. Pham has been very productive in years past and could find his way to some fantasy relevance if he ultimately joins the Friars, however, most recently slashing .256/.328/.446 with 16 homers, 27 doubles, 68 RBI, and 22 stolen bases in 426 ABs across time with the New York Mets and Arizona Diamondbacks in 2023.

  • Offseason In Review: San Diego Padres

    Headshot for Pedro Avila

It’s rare for the same team to be on opposite ends of blockbuster trades within one offseason. This Padres front office isn’t afraid to break convention. San Diego was the traditional “seller” in the winter’s biggest trade as they shed a lot of money. That didn’t stop them from dealing a trio of well-regarded prospects…

  • Tommy Pham Nearing Deal With Padres

    Headshot for Tommy Pham

The San Diego Padres are close to a deal with free-agent outfielder Tommy Pham, according to Bob Nightengale. The expectation is that it'll be a cheap one-year contract. The Padres could use the help in the outfield as this team does lack depth there. Currently, Jurickson Profar is penciled in as the everyday left fielder. The move to get Pham could give the Padres additional options for platoon type situations. Last season, Pham hit .256/.328/.446 with 16 home runs and 68 RBI in 129 games between the New York Mets and Arizona Diamondbacks. There probably won't be a ton of fantasy value from Pham, but it depends on his role.

  • Jurickson Profar Exits Early During Wednesday's Game

    Headshot for Jurickson Profar

San Diego Padres outfielder Jurickson Profar (leg) was forced to exit early during Wednesday's Cactus League matchup against the Oakland Athletics. The veteran slugger came up limping after rounding first base in the fourth inning. He was able to walk off the field under his own power. The expectation is that Profar will undergo further testing and an update will be given following the contest. The 31-year-old was 3-for-3 with a one home run and 4 RBI before exiting the game. The expectation is that Profar is going to be the Opening Day left fielder in San Diego.

  • Jurickson Profar Returns To Padres

    Headshot for Jurickson Profar

Free-agent outfielder Jurickson Profar and the San Diego Padres agreed to a one-year, $1 million deal on Monday. He can earn an extra $1.5 million in incentives in 2024 based on plate appearances. Profar was with the Padres from 2020 to 2022 before joining the Colorado Rockies as a free agent for the start of last year. The 30-year-old switch-hitter batted just .236 (98-for-415) with eight home runs and 39 RBI in 111 games for the Rockies in 2023 before going 13-for-44 (.295) with a homer and seven RBI in 14 games to close out the season with San Diego. He'll now return to the Friars, who were in desperate need of outfield help after trading Juan Soto and Trent Grisham to the Yankees in the offseason. As things stand now, Profar should have the leg up on a starting spot in left field to open the 2024 season, but his bat lacks any real upside for fantasy managers.

    Headshot for Brian Anderson

Pitchers and catchers will be reporting to Spring Training in about two weeks but a slow offseason means there are still plenty of free agents out there. Over the past week, MLBTR has already taken a look at the remaining catchers, first basemen, second basemen, third basemen, shortstops, center fielders, designated hitters and starting pitchers, and…
