  • Yankees Have Discussed Jurickson Profar

The New York Yankees have discussed signing free-agent infielder/outfielder Jurickson Profar, but the Yankees are also adamant about staying under the "Steve Cohen tax" threshold of $293 million. They are currently at around $290 million. In addition to Profar, the Yankees have also checked in on Josh Harrison. The 29-year-old Profar reached free agency after declining his $8.33 million player option with the San Diego Padres for 2023. He became the Friars' everyday left field option in 2022 and hit .243/.331/.391 with a .723 OPS, 15 home runs, 58 RBI, 82 runs scored and five stolen bases in 152 games. Profar's bat might be slightly more attractive at Yankee Stadium, but he also wouldn't be guaranteed the playing time that he saw in San Diego.

  • Rangers, Marlins Among Teams Interested In Jurickson Profar

Outfielder Jurickson Profar is one of the top free agents that still remains unsigned and he is drawing plenty of interest around the league. He’s already been connected to the Yankees, Astros and Red Sox at various points throughout the winter and it seems there are a few more teams involved. Jon Morosi of MLB…

  • Red Sox Express Interest In Elvis Andrus, Jurickson Profar

USA Today's Bob Nightengale reported Monday that the Boston Red Sox have "expressed interest" in free agent shortstop Elvis Andrus and free agent second baseman/outfielder Jurickson Profar. The team will be without Trevor Story (elbow) for several months at least as he recovers from elbow surgery and they no longer have Xander Bogaerts, so either or both players would provide depth. Andrus had a surprise 2022 season, slashing .249/.303/.404 with 17 home runs, 58 RBI, and 18 stolen bases with the Athletics and White Sox. Profar slashed .243/.331/.391 with 15 home runs, 58 RBI, and five stolen bases with the Padres. The Red Sox lineup will not be as strong as it historically has been, and while either player could provide speed with some power, they would be at best late-round roto picks if they signed.

  • Red Sox Interested In Jurickson Profar, Elvis Andrus

The Red Sox were known to be looking for middle infield help even before news broke earlier this week about Trevor Story’s internal brace surgery on his right elbow, which could keep the shortstop on the injured list for most (or potentially all) of the 2023 season.  In the wake of Story’s surgery, two names…

  • Which Teams Make The Most Sense For Jurickson Profar?

Aside from Carlos Correa — who reportedly remains focused on finalizing his deal with the Mets — only three players from MLBTR’s top 50 free agents remain without a contract. There’s just one hitter from the group, as the market for Jurickson Profar has remained surprisingly quiet. The nine-year MLB veteran had a solid 2022 campaign with…

  • Astros Have Some Interest In Jurickson Profar

The signing of Jose Abreu filled a big hole at first base for the Astros, but the reigning World Series champions continue to explore ways to upgrade their outfield.  Past reports have suggested that free agents like Michael Conforto or old friend Michael Brantley are on Houston’s radar, but Jon Heyman of the New York…

  • Jurickson Profar Opts Out Of Contract Monday

Outfielder Jurickson Profar opted out of the final year of his three-year, $21 million contract with the San Diego Padres Monday, per the MLB Player's Association Communication Department. Profar's three-year contract gave him the ability to opt out after each of the first two seasons. His 2022 season was a rebound from 2021, as he slashed .243/.331/.391 with 15 home runs, 58 RBI, and five stolen bases in 658 plate appearances. The former top prospect and current free agent has not lived up to expectations over the course of his career, but he did play an important role for the Padres this past season.
