Red Sox Reinstate Chris Sale From 60-Day Injured List

The Red Sox announced that they have reinstated left-hander Chris Sale from the 60-day injured list, with fellow lefty Brandon Walter optioned in a corresponding move. The 40-man roster previously had a vacancy but is now full. Chris Cotillo of MassLive reported the moves prior to the official announcement. Sale will start tonight’s game against…
Aug 11 · MLB Trade Rumors Red Sox Chris SaleChris Sale Expected To Go Four Innings Friday

Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that the team expects left-hander Chris Sale (shoulder) to make the start on Friday against the Detroit Tigers and go four innings. The Red Sox are bringing Sale back from the injured list after he made just two minor-league rehab starts, so it's no surprise that he'll be on a limited pitch count in his first big-league appearance since early June. In his last rehab start for Triple-A Worcester, the 34-year-old southpaw tossed 54 pitches. Despite the excellent matchup against Detroit, Sale will have a low fantasy ceiling in his return on Friday. But he looked solid on his rehab assignment and deserves to be rostered in all fantasy leagues because of his strikeout upside when healthy.

Chris Sale Likely To Start Friday

Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that left-hander Chris Sale (shoulder) will likely return from the 60-day injured list to start on Friday against the visiting Detroit Tigers. Sale made only two minor-league rehab appearances for Triple-A Worcester, so fantasy managers should not be expecting him to go very deep into Friday's game in his first big-league start since June 1. The 34-year-old southpaw should still be rostered in all fantasy leagues for his strikeout upside when healthy, and he was able to fan seven batters while walking one in 4 1/3 scoreless innings in his final rehab start. Sale is attempting to return from a stress reaction in his left scapula. The oft-injured hurler has gone 5-2 on the year with a 4.58 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 71 strikeouts in 59 innings (11 starts).

Chris Sale Tosses 40-Pitch Rehab Game

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale (shoulder) began his rehab assignment on Tuesday with Triple-A Worcester. He went two-plus innings, allowing one hit, two walks and no runs while striking out three. Sale is expected to make at least one more start this weekend for Worcester before he returns to Boston, according to MLB.com. The left-hander has missed two months of action after sustaining a stress fracture in his scapula in early June. Over 59 innings this season, Sale owns a 4.58 ERA and 1.19 WHIP but was striking out batters at a 28.5% clip before the injury. Fantasy managers should continue stashing the 34-year-old and hope he returns soon after his next rehab appearance.

Chris Sale To Start Rehab Assignment Tuesday

Boston Red Sox left-hander Chris Sale (shoulder) will start a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday and will pitch three innings, according to manager Alex Cora. Sale is then expected to pitch again for Worcester next Sunday, Aug. 6. After that, the Red Sox will reassess his situation and decide if he'll be activated from the injured list. It's possible Sale could rejoin the starting rotation as soon as the team's home series against the Detroit Tigers, which begins on Aug. 11. Cora previously said Boston is considering activating Sale before his arm is fully built up in an effort to get him back quicker. That's not necessarily great news for fantasy managers, so they'll have to be careful when they decide to deploy him if he's not fully stretched out. The oft-injured 34-year-old is trying to return from a stress fracture in his scapula.

Chris Sale Officially Set For Rehab Action On Tuesday

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale (shoulder) is slated to begin a rehab assignment on Tuesday at Triple-A Worcester. The 34-year-old should see about three innings and Red Sox manager Alex Cora says that Sale is making two rehab appearances before a potential big-league return. Sale isn't eligible for activation from the 60-day injured list until Aug. 11, anyway, so the conclusion of his second rehab start could match up closely to that date. Barring any setbacks, it seems the seven-time All-Star is primed for a comeback in roughly two weeks after going down with a stress reaction in his left shoulder on June 2. It's about time for fantasy managers to make sure Sale isn't available off waiver wires.

Chris Sale Could Start Rehab Assignment On Tuesday

If Boston Red Sox left-hander Chris Sale's (shoulder) live batting practice session at Triple-A Worcester goes well on Thursday, he would start a minor-league rehab assignment next Tuesday. Sale is taking the next step after throwing a normal bullpen session last weekend. The oft-injured 34-year-old southpaw is attempting to return from a stress reaction in his left scapula, and he deserves to be stashed in all fantasy leagues because of his strikeout upside when he's actually healthy. However, the Red Sox may bring him back early and ease him back into big-league games, so it may be tricky as to whether to use him in starting fantasy lineups right away when he's activated from the injured list.

Chris Sale Could Start Minor-League Rehab Assignment Next Week

Boston Red Sox left-hander Chris Sale (shoulder) is scheduled to throw an up-and-down bullpen session on Thursday at Triple-A Worcester and could begin a minor-league rehab assignment next week. The Red Sox are talking about bringing Sale back sooner and building up his innings in Boston. The 34-year-old southpaw can return from the injured list on Aug. 1. If the Red Sox ease him back into action at the major-league level, fantasy managers may want to wait a bit before throwing him back into their starting lineups immediately. The oft-injured veteran hurler is recovering from a stress reaction in his left scapula this time around. In 11 starts in 2023, he's gone 5-2 with a 4.58 ERA (3.71 FIP), 1.19 WHIP and a strong 28.5% strikeout rate in 59 innings. Sale should remain stashed in all fantasy leagues.

Chris Sale Throws Another Bullpen Session On Friday

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale (shoulder) tossed a bullpen session on Friday as he continues to recuperate from a stress reaction in his left shoulder. The 34-year-old also hurled a 'pen session on Tuesday, so he's making positive steps towards a return. Sale is set to throw another on either Sunday or Monday before potentially progressing to live batting practice. The southpaw could start a rehab assignment promptly after that if all goes well, positioning him for an early-August injured-list activation. Sale is eligible to come off the IL on Aug. 1, but fantasy managers probably shouldn't expect him back until a bit later than that.

Chris Sale To Throw Another Bullpen This Weekend

Boston Red Sox left-hander Chris Sale (shoulder) will throw another bullpen session this weekend, according to manager Alex Cora. Sale is expected to progress to likely two live batting practice sessions and will then go on a minor-league rehab assignment. The 34-year-old southpaw threw his first bullpen on Tuesday since going on the injured list with a stress reaction in his left scapula. Sale's return isn't right around the corner, but he's making good progress right now. Barring a setback, he should be able to return to the starting rotation early next month. It's been one injury after another for the seven-time All-Star since 2020, but he's still worth stashing in all fantasy formats for his strikeout upside when he's healthy. He's fanned 71 hitters in 59 innings this year in 11 starts.

Chris Sale Feels Good Following Bullpen

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale (shoulder) tossed a bullpen on Tuesday, and according to Sonja Chen of MLB.com, he "felt good" afterwards. The left-hander has appeared in just 11 games this season as he's dealing with a shoulder injury he sustained in early June. It was his first bullpen session since hitting the injured list, so Sale still has a little bit to go until he can return to the team, possibly in early August. The 34-year-old owns a 4.58 ERA across 59 innings this season but has registered a 28.5% strikeout rate and 6.0% walk rate. Fantasy managers should continue stashing Sale on the injured list in all formats.

Chris Sale Set For Bullpen Session On Tuesday

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale (shoulder) is scheduled to toss a bullpen session on Tuesday. It would be a substantial step forward in the 34-year-old's recovery from a stress reaction in his left shoulder. Sale has been sidelined by the injury since June 2, having not thrown off a mound ever since. The southpaw is eligible for activation from the 60-day injured list in early August and could feasibly return around that time if all goes well from here on out. The strikeout-hurling Sale should remain stashed across the majority of fantasy leagues. He owns a 4.58 ERA (3.70 FIP), 1.19 WHIP, 71:15 K:BB over 59 innings this year.

Chris Sale To Throw First Bullpen On Tuesday

Boston Red Sox left-hander Chris Sale (shoulder) will throw his first bullpen session on Tuesday, which will be his first time throwing off a mound since he was injured on June 1. Sale has started to ramp up his throwing program, and barring any setbacks, he could be back in Boston's starting rotation early in August. The seven-time All-Star made just 11 starts from 2020 to 2022 due to injuries, and he can't seem to stay out of the trainer's room. The 34-year-old southpaw managed to make 11 starts for the BoSox this year before getting injured again, and he was posting a career-high 4.58 ERA (3.70 FIP) before landing on the injured list. Still, Sale should remain stashed in all fantasy leagues. He has 71 strikeouts and only 15 walks in his 59 innings pitched.
