  • Chris Sale To Make Another Rehab Start

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale (elbow) is expected to make at least one more rehab start. He tossed five innings of one-run ball on Saturday in Triple-A Worcester. Sale has posted a 1.76 ERA and a 27/2 K/BB ratio in 15 1/3 innings over four starts in the minors. It sounds like Sale is nearing a return from Tommy John surgery. The hope is that Sale can be activated in mid-August, which would be a significant boost for the Red Sox. Fantasy managers should double check and make sure Sale isn't sitting around on the waiver wire.

  • Chris Sale Strikes Out Seven In Rehab Outing

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale (elbow) allowed one run on five hits and one walk while striking out seven over five innings of work in his fourth rehab start on Saturday while pitching for Triple-A Worcester. He's been electric during his rehab appearances, allowing just three runs on 15 hits and two walks while striking out 27 over 15 1/3 innings of work. Sale is slated to have at least one more rehab appearance before he'll be ready to return to Boston, and it looks like he should provide a good late-season boost in fantasy.

  • Chris Sale To Make At Least Two More Rehab Starts

Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that starting pitcher Chris Sale's (elbow) next rehab start for Triple-A Worcester this Saturday will not be his last minor league rehab start. Sale struck out nine more hitters in 3 2/3 innings in his latest rehab start for Double-A Portland on Sunday. The left-hander allowed two runs on six hits while throwing 46 of his 64 pitches for strikes. Boston is making sure that Sale is fully stretched out and healthy before he makes his season debut after returning from Tommy John surgery. The 32-year-old southpaw has looked great so far during his rehab assignment and must be picked up off the waiver wire if he's still out there. Sale might have some ups and downs when he returns to the big league rotation, but his upside could be a difference-maker down the stretch.

  • Chris Sale Likely To Make Another Rehab Start Sunday

The Boston Red Sox are planning to have starting pitcher Chris Sale (elbow) make another rehab start with Double-A Worcester on Sunday. Sale has looked really good in his recovery from Tommy John surgery, and he threw 3 2/3 hitless frames with six strikeouts in his most recent rehab start. The left-hander's heater has also reached 98 mph on the radar gun. If everything goes smoothly in his next rehab outing this weekend, Sale could be on track to make his season debut in Boston's starting rotation. The 32-year-old seven-time All-Star could have his ups and downs in his return from Tommy John at the MLB level, but his upside makes him a must-own in all fantasy leagues in the second half of the season.

  • Chris Sale Strikes Out Six In Tuesday's Rehab Start

Boston Red Sox pitcher Chris Sale (elbow) allowed one walk and no hits while striking out six across 3 2/3 scoreless innings during Tuesday's rehab start with Double-A Portland. The southpaw was impressive in his second rehab start on Tuesday. Sale threw 49 pitches, firing 34 for strikes. The Red Sox ace hit 98 mph on his fastball and felt good after his outing. "Today was a good day, definitely a step in the right direction; I felt good throughout the entire game," said Sale. The 32-year-old will need a few more rehab assignments before he's cleared to rejoin the Red Sox rotation. Fantasy managers should continue to stash Sale. Expectations need to be tempered as he returns from Tommy John surgery, but the upside is undeniable. Sale also recently revealed that he cut out junk food/processed foods and has increased his focus on nutrition."That mixed with better sleeping patters and more hydration has helped me out a lot," Sale said.

  • Chris Sale To Make Another Rehab Start Tuesday

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale (elbow) will make his next minor league rehab start with Double-A Portland on Tuesday. Sale looked really good in his first rehab outing in the Florida Complex League on Thursday, getting up to 97 mph with his fastball and giving up no runs while striking out five in three innings. The 32-year-old southpaw is recovering from Tommy John surgery and hasn't pitched in the big leagues since August of 2019, but he's looked electric so far in his rehab and should be able to return to Boston's rotation at some point in August, barring setbacks. The seven-time All-Star will have more risk than normal when he makes his season debut, but he's looked great so far and needs to be stashed in all leagues, if he isn't already.

  • Chris Sale Fans Five In First Rehab Outing

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale (elbow) allowed no runs on four hits while walking none and striking out five in three innings in his first rehab start in the Florida Complex League on Thursday. Not only was this Sale's first live game action since August of 2019, but the southpaw's fastball was clocked at 93-94 mph. It's great news for the Red Sox and fantasy managers that have been stashing Sale all season long. We still need to temper expectations, since he'll likely need at least a handful more minor league rehab appearances before Boston feels comfortable with him making his big league season debut, but it's an encouraging step in the right direction. If you're in need of pitching help and Sale is still available on the waiver wire, pick him up immediately.

  • Chris Sale Could Start Rehab Assignment Next Week

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale (elbow) will throw another two-inning simulated game at the team's spring training complex on Saturday and he is likely to be sent on a minor league rehab assignment next week, according to manager Alex Cora. Sale hasn't pitched in game action since August of 2019, when he struck out 12 hitters in 6 2/3 innings against the Cleveland Indians. The left-hander underwent Tommy John surgery in March of last year. It's unknown how many rehab outings Sale will need, but the Red Sox want to build him up to five or six innings before they activate him. While fantasy managers shouldn't expect Cy Young results immediately upon his return to the Red Sox rotation, Sale should be owned in all formats for a possible return at some point in August.

  • Chris Sale Will Be Built Back Up Before Being Activated

Boston Red Sox pitching coach Dave Bush said that the plan is for starting pitcher Chris Sale (elbow) to be built all the way up to five or six innings before he's activated from the injured list. Sale is getting closer to a return and has been facing live hitters in live batting practice sessions, but the Red Sox won't rush him back from Tommy John surgery. Remember the All-Star left-hander didn't pitch at all last year, so he probably won't be back until around the middle of August, at the earliest. However, fantasy managers should still be stashing him on rosters right now for the potential upside once he returns, just don't expect the southpaw to display Cy Young stuff to close out the season.

  • Chris Sale To Throw Two Innings Tuesday

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale (elbow) will throw two more innings of live batting practice on Tuesday in what should be his last live batting practice session before he goes on a minor league rehab assignment. Sale could need around a full month of work on a rehab assignment after coming back from Tommy John surgery, but the talented left-hander has made excellent progress of late. Barring any setbacks along the way, Sale could be an option for the Red Sox and fantasy managers at some point in August. The 32-year-old seven-time All-Star made not return to All-Star form right away upon his return in the second half of the season, but with his return getting closer, he should at least be stashed in the vast majority of fantasy leagues.

  • Chris Sale Throws Successful Simulated Game

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale (elbow) struck out three of the four batters he faced during a 15-pitch simulated game on Wednesday at Fenway Park. Sale topped out at 95 mph with his fastball and looked impressive during the session. The 32-year-old is slowly making his way back from Tommy John surgery and is expected to make his season debut at some point in the second half. Sale may not make his return until late July or even at some point in August. While fantasy managers have every reason to stash the southpaw because of his All-Star ability when healthy, they need to temper expectations and not be surprised if we don't see vintage Sale upon his return. He could start a rehab assignment around the All-Star break.

  • Chris Sale To Throw BP Session On Wednesday

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale (elbow) will take another step forward in his recovery from Tommy John Surgery on Wednesday when he throws two innings of live batting practice. The Red Sox ace came out of Saturday's 15-pitch session to live hitters "feeling great" and a scheduled rehab assignment is surely on the horizon if Wednesday goes smoothly. The seven-time All-Star is looking at an August return, barring any setbacks. While it'd be unfair to expect an immediate return to dominance for the left-hander, the 32-year-old does warrant a stash because of his upside in all fantasy formats.

  • Chris Sale To Face Live Hitters Saturday

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale (elbow) will make an important step in his recovery from Tommy John surgery on Saturday when he throws around 20 pitches to live hitters. It will be the first time that Sale has faced live hitters since spring training of last year. Manager Alex Cora thinks Sale will have at least one more session against hitters before the team sends him on a minor league rehab assignment. Barring any setbacks, the left-hander could make his season debut with the BoSox some time in August. When healthy, the 32-year-old has the potential to be one of the best pitchers in baseball, but fantasy managers that have stashed him all season should temper expectations when he returns. But because of his upside, he's worth picking up if he remains available in your league.

  • Chris Sale Will Face Live Hitting On Saturday

Boston Red Sox pitcher Chris Sale (elbow) will throw 20 pitches off the mound at Fenway Park on Saturday. It will be the first time Sale has faced any live hitting-pitching competition since Spring Training of 2020. According to manager Alex Cora, "Sale will have at least one more session against hitters before the team sends him off on a rehab assignment." The 32-year-old is trending in the right direction in his recovery from Tommy John surgery and could return to the rotation by mid-summer. Fantasy managers should continue to stash the Red Sox ace in all league formats.

  • Chris Sale Tosses Two Simulated Innings

Boston Red Sox left-hander Chris Sale (elbow) threw 45 pitches over two simulated innings on Tuesday. There were hitters in the box, but they were not swinging at Sale's offerings, which includes all of his pitches. It was an encouraging day, with the southpaw's fastball getting up to 92 mph on the radar gun. Sale is slowing progressing from Tommy John surgery, and if he doesn't suffer any setbacks along the way, he could be back for the BoSox at some point in August. A rehab assignment is coming shortly, and that should give us an even better idea of when he might be ready to return to the major leagues. While it looks like Sale will pitch in 2021, there's a good chance that the lefty may not be as sharp, mainly in the control department. The six-time All-Star is worth a pickup if he's available and if you have the room, but temper expectations down the stretch.

  • Chris Sale Expected To Toss More Bullpen Sessions

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale (elbow) is anticipated to throw in bullpen sessions on Tuesday and Friday. More good news for the southpaw, who recently faced batters in Worcester on Friday. The veteran continues to work his way back from Tommy John surgery, and as long as he continues to move in the right direction, it seems reasonable that he will start a rehab assignment sometime soon, maybe even before the end of June.

  • Chris Sale Faces Hitters On Friday

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale (elbow) threw 40 pitches and faced batters in Worcester on Friday, Joe McDonald reported on Twitter. According to the report, Sale pitched to both a left-handed and right-handed hitter, with one batter calling Sale's stuff "filthy" as he was leaving the box. While Red Sox manager Alex Cora hasn't indicated exactly when the southpaw will start his rehab assignment, fantasy managers should be very encouraged by Sale's progress as he continues to bounce back from Tommy John surgery. As long as the 32-year-old lefty doesn't have any setbacks in his rehab assignment, he could have a lot of fantasy-friendly upside coming out of Boston's bullpen when he returns.

  • Chris Sale Looks Good In Bullpen Session

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale (elbow) threw a bullpen session Friday, and looked good doing it. Manager Alex Cora said that Sale stated afterwards that this was the best he'd felt at any point in the recovery process. Sale is very determined to return as soon as possible, and even offered to come out of the bullpen if that would expedite the process, but Cora dismissed this option. Fantasy managers have to be encouraged by Sale's progress, though a return will not take place until after the All-Star break at the soonest.

  • Chris Sale Confident He'll Pitch In 2021

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale (elbow) is confident that he'll pitch before the end of this season. "One hundred percent," Sale said Tuesday. "Unless something crazy happens. I'll be there soon enough." The 32-year-old southpaw threw 25 pitches, including a combination of his fastball, changeup and slider, on Tuesday. The left-hander could face hitters soon and must go on a minor league rehab assignment before returning, but things are moving in the right direction. Sale last appeared in a game in August of 2019 before needing Tommy John surgery. He's chomping at the bit to get back into big league games, but both he and his fantasy managers must remain patient. Sale is worth stashing in the majority of fantasy formats, but you may not get that much out of him if he does indeed return to the mound this season.

  • Chris Sale May Face Batters Soon

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale (elbow) may soon be ready to face hitters. "Things are trending up," reported manager Alex Cora when asked about Sale's progression. The veteran underwent Tommy John surgery back in March of 2020 and has slowly been making his way back since, having participated in bullpen sessions recently. He could return sometime this season, possibly in July or August, so fantasy managers have to hang on just a bit longer.

  • Chris Sale Throws Off A Mound

Boston Red Sox pitcher Chris Sale (elbow) tossed 20 pitches off the mound on Wednesday. After news surfaced that the strikeout artist was beginning to increase the duration and intensity of his throwing sessions, the latest update is even better news for fantasy managers who have him stashed. Sale is already eligible to come off the injured list, although he likely won't be back for another month or more.

Jun 2 · RotoBaller Red Sox Chris Sale
  • Chris Sale Starting To Increase Intensity

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale (elbow) continues to move in the right direction. Sale has reportedly begun to increase both the intensity and length of his throwing sessions, which is more good news. The veteran is recovering from Tommy John surgery and could be back on the field within the next few months, so fantasy managers with room to spare should continue to keep him stashed.

  • Chris Sale Throws Bullpen Session On Saturday

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale (elbow) threw a bullpen session on Saturday. This is more good news and comes after the veteran recently reported how well he has felt between throwing sessions. Fantasy managers should continue to hang on to the strikeout artist, primarily since he could return at some point over the next month or so.

  • Chris Sales Continues To Progress Toward Return

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale (elbow) continues to make progress toward a return to the team. The veteran has been pleased with how he has felt after throwing sessions, and it is good news for fantasy managers who are anxiously awaiting his return. The lefty had Tommy John Surgery back in March of 2020, which was the likely cause for his regression over the years. However, fantasy managers should continue to hang on to him due to his obvious upside, especially if he can find his way back over the next few months.

May 19 · RotoBaller Red Sox Chris Sale
  • Chris Sale Throwing Off A Mound

Boston Celtics starting pitcher Chris Sale (elbow) has begun throwing off a mound. This is good news, primarily since this is the next step toward the veteran returning to the lineup after having Tommy John Surgery back in March of 2020. Although Sale's numbers haven't been the best over the last few years, fantasy managers in need of pitching later in the Summer could be pleasantly surprised with his output, especially for those not taking much of a risk by picking him up off of waivers.
