  • Paul Goldschmidt Getting An Off Day Monday

    Headshot for Paul Goldschmidt

St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt is getting a rare day off on Monday with the team facing the visiting Atlanta Braves. Alec Burleson will draw into the lineup at first base and will bat second against Braves rookie right-hander Spencer Schwellenbach. This will be Goldy's first day off since May 9 and only the third time all year that he hasn't been in the starting lineup. The veteran first baseman is hitting a disappointing .231 on the season but has turned things around in June and is currently riding a seven-game hitting streak in which he's gone 9-for-30 (.300) with two homers and four RBI in 32 plate appearances. The seven-time All-Star also has 10 homers on the season, 31 RBI, three stolen bases and 36 runs scored in 74 games. Burleson has been more productive than Goldy in 2024 and will be a nice DFS target against a rookie out of the two-hole.

  • Paul Goldschmidt Hits Another Homer Monday

    Headshot for Paul Goldschmidt

St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt added another long ball to his recent total in Monday's 3-1 loss to the Reds. Goldschmidt went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a strikeout. He provided his team's entire offense, sending a first-inning Nick Lodolo fastball into the left-field seats. The 36-year-old has been cold at the plate overall this season but now has three HR in his last two games and is hitting .276 with six extra-base hits in his last seven games. Age is a concern for Goldschmidt, but hopefully, he can extend his hot streak and start performing closer to the high-end fantasy option he has been throughout his career.

  • Paul Goldschmidt Smacks Two Homers On Sunday Night

    Headshot for Paul Goldschmidt

St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt went 2-for-4 with two homers on Sunday, leading the Cardinals to a 4-3 win over the Chicago Cubs. Goldy drove in all four of the Cards' runs with his pair of two-run shots. After a miserable start to his season, the veteran has quietly been turning things around recently, improving his average from .190 to .222 and his OPS from .530 to .643 over the past two weeks. After tonight's performance, Goldschmidt should probably be in most starting lineups next week. If he was dropped in any shallow leagues and is still sitting on waivers, be sure to grab him now.

  • Paul Goldschmidt Snaps Hitting Skid

    Headshot for Paul Goldschmidt

St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt has been flat-out awful to start the month of May. The veteran slugger entered Sunday's game 1-for-32 with 14 strikeouts. Luckily, was able to do some damage against the Milwaukee Brewers. Goldschmidt went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in the victory. This will raise his slash line to .197/.280/.279 on the season. This situation is obviously frustrating for fantasy managers, but maybe this is a sign of more good things to come.

  • Paul Goldschmidt On The Bench Thursday

    Headshot for Paul Goldschmidt

St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt remains out of the starting lineup on Thursday against the Milwaukee Brewers. Goldschmidt was scheduled to sit out Wednesday's series finale against the New York Mets on Wednesday before the game was rained out, so the Cardinals have just elected to give the struggling Goldy another day off. Alec Burleson will once again start at first base and hit cleanup against Brewers right-hander Tobias Myers. The 36-year-old right-handed slugger hasn't recorded a hit in his last six games to drop his season slash line to .195/.287/.263 with only two home runs and 11 RBI in 133 at-bats. Burleson has never faced Myers in his career but will be a tempting DFS play out of the cleanup spot as the Cardinals look to get their offense going. Goldy should be back in action on Friday in Milwaukee as he looks to break out of his season-long slump.

  • Paul Goldschmidt's Toughest Stretch As A Cardinal

    Headshot for Paul Goldschmidt

The Cardinals are back at the bottom of the NL Central through six weeks. At 15-21, they're ahead of only the Marlins and Rockies in the National League. St. Louis viewed their 2023 last-place finish as an anomaly. They invested in their rotation to try for a quick turnaround, but their current 68-win pace is...

  • Paul Goldschmidt Resting Against Mets

    Headshot for Paul Goldschmidt

St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt is out of the team's starting lineup on Wednesday for the series finale against the visiting New York Mets. Alec Burleson will get the start at first base and will hit fifth against Mets left-hander Jose Quintana. Goldschmidt is hitting .545 with a 1.651 OPS, three home runs and 11 RBI in 22 career at-bats against Quintana in his career, but the slugging 36-year-old right-hander has also gone hitless so far in the month of May and could use a day off to clear his head. Goldy, like many of St. Louis' hitters, has been ice-cold to start the year and is currently slashing just .195/.287/.263 with two home runs and 11 RBI in 133 at-bats. Burleson went 3-for-5 with a home run on Tuesday but is also hitting just .188 (3-for-16) with a homer and four RBI against lefties this year.
