  • Paul Goldschmidt Has Back Tightness, May Return Friday

    Headshot for Paul Goldschmidt

St. Louis Cardinals manager Oli Marmol says first baseman Paul Goldschmidt (back), who is out of Thursday's lineup against the Milwaukee Brewers, is dealing with back tightness. The 36-year-old should be deemed day-to-day ahead of the final weekend set of the year versus the division-rival Cincinnati Reds, but fantasy managers should feel pretty good about Goldschmidt returning as soon as Friday. "We want to make sure he's good to play when we get back home in front of our own fans", Marmol also stated. Goldy will look to provide one last hurrah for those relying on him late in fantasy championship week, and the 2022 National League MVP is slashing .267/.362/.444 with 25 home runs, 79 RBI, and 11 stolen bases overall.

  • Paul Goldschmidt Sitting Again On Thursday

    Headshot for Paul Goldschmidt

St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt is once again sitting out of the starting lineup Thursday versus the Milwaukee Brewers and right-hander Corbin Burnes. The 2022 NL MVP did not take part in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Brewers and will be on the bench again Thursday, although a specific reason for his absence has not been released. Of course, the Cardinals could be opting to give young players playing time in the final week of a wildly disappointing season that has them sitting in last place in the NL Central at 69-89. For the season, Goldschmidt has hit .267 with 25 home runs, 11 stolen bases, and an .806 OPS across 152 games played.

  • Paul Goldschmidt Nails 25th Dinger Sunday

    Headshot for Paul Goldschmidt

St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt smacked his 25th homer and 28th double of the season in a 6-5 win over the Phillies on Sunday. The 36-year-old slugger has 340 home runs since starting his major league career in 2011. Sunday's dinger tied him with Jack Clark for 105th place on the all-time home run list. Goldschmidt has had a slow few months but still carries a solid slash line of .273/.366/.456. He's also recorded 78 RBI in 561 trips to the plate.

  • Paul Goldschmidt Hits 24th Homer Tuesday

    Headshot for Paul Goldschmidt

St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and two strikeouts in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Orioles. The first-inning blast was the veteran's 24th of the season. The 36-year-old hasn't been quite as productive as he has been the past couple of seasons, but he still owns a strong .272/.363/.452 slash line with 74 RBI and 10 stolen bases. Age decline is often a worry among fantasy managers, but Goldschmidt has once again performed like a higher-end fantasy option this season.

  • Paul Goldschmidt Sees Favorable Matchup On Thursday

    Headshot for Paul Goldschmidt

The St. Louis Cardinals and first baseman Paul Goldschmidt kick off a four-game set with the New York Mets on Thursday. The 35-year-old has posted three multi-hit efforts in his last four outings and looks to be in an outstanding spot out of the two-hole for the series opener against Jose Quintana. Goldschmidt has utterly wrecked the Mets' southpaw by going 11-for-17 with three home runs, three doubles, and a walk in 19 career plate appearances opposing Quintana. Season-long fantasy managers should already be setting and forgetting Goldschmidt in lineups, but perhaps there's an added layer of anticipation for this one in what could be a high-scoring affair.

  • Paul Goldschmidt Aims To Bust Slump On Thursday

    Headshot for Paul Goldschmidt

First baseman Paul Goldschmidt and the St. Louis Cardinals look to take the rubber match of a three-game series versus the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday. The 35-year-old has struggled at the plate recently; Goldschmidt is batting a woeful .192 (9-for-47) with just one extra-base hit over a 12-game homerless dry spell since July 27. Goldy appears to have a prime opportunity in this one to get back on track with a matchup opposing Zack Littell, who he is a remarkable 5-for-6 with a home run and a double in seven plate appearances against in his career. Keep the 2022 NL MVP inserted in season-long fantasy lineups despite his recent troubles.

  • Paul Goldschmidt Crushes 17th Homer In Win

    Headshot for Paul Goldschmidt

St. Louis Cardinals Paul Goldschmidt went 2-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored in Monday's 10-6 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. The 35-year-old hurt his former club in this one, initiating a huge Cardinals scoring output with a first-inning two-run goner. Goldschmidt then hit a ninth-inning RBI single to uncork a late five-run St. Louis surge. The 2022 NL MVP is slashing a prolific .285/.371/.473 with 17 homers, 53 RBI, 63 runs scored and eight stolen bases over 439 plate appearances in 2023. Goldschmidt has two more shots this series at his old D-backs team, who he's now punished for a .395 BA with five bombs and 14 RBI across 38 at-bats against since 2022.

  • Paul Goldschmidt Aims To Keep Up Prolific Start

    Headshot for Paul Goldschmidt

The St. Louis Cardinals and first baseman Paul Goldschmidt start their season's second half on Friday for a three-game set with the Washington Nationals. The 35-year-old has remained a fantasy stalwart in 2023, slashing .284/.369/.475 with 15 home runs, 46 RBI, and eight stolen bases over 341 at-bats. Goldschmidt has struggled mightily, however, versus Washington in recent years. He is hitting .188 with four homers, 11 RBI, and one swipe over 112 ABs against the Nationals since 2018. Goldschmidt's career .242 BA and .664 OPS opposing the Nats also signify his lowest figures vs. any NL club. The multi-time Silver Slugger should still be locked into daily fantasy lineups, but perhaps expectations could be slightly tempered considering these caveats.

  • Paul Goldschmidt Resting Thursday

    Headshot for Paul Goldschmidt

St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt is not in the team's starting lineup on Thursday against the Miami Marlins. With Goldy taking a day off, Alec Burleson will fill in at first base and will bat seventh in the lineup against Marlins right-hander Eury Perez. Goldschmidt hasn't been the problem for the disappointing Cardinals this year, and he's gone 6-for-23 (.261) with a homer, four RBI and two runs scored in six games to begin the month of July. Overall, the 35-year-old MVP from a season ago is slashing .284/.370/.482 with an .851 OPS, 15 home runs, 20 doubles, 46 RBI, eight stolen bases and 52 runs scored in 84 games. Goldschmidt isn't quite performing at the elite level that he was last year, but he remains a must-start for fantasy purposes when he's active.
