  • Mike Trout Not Going Anywhere

    Headshot for Mike Trout

Los Angeles Angels general manager Perry Minasian reiterated that outfielder Mike Trout will be playing with the team in 2024 after several large-market teams privately inquired about his availability in a trade. The Angels will likely lose two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani this offseason, but they plan on keeping Trout around. Now 32, Trout, an 11-time All-Star and three-time MVP, had a down year in 2023 and finished with a .263 batting average (81-for-308) with 18 home runs, 14 doubles, a triple, 44 RBI, two stolen bases and 54 runs scored in 82 games played. He suffered a fractured hamate bone on July 3 and ended up playing in just one game in the second half of the season before ultimately being shut down. Trout should be able to rebound with better health in 2024, but he's no longer in contention as the top overall pick in fantasy drafts.

    Headshot for Shohei Ohtani

The Angels are completing their eighth consecutive losing season, and might lose one of the game’s iconic players in Shohei Ohtani to free agency.  Ohtani’s potential departure adds extra sting to this latest disappointing year in Anaheim, and it has led to some questions regarding the club’s other icon in Mike Trout.  The outfielder said…

  • Mike Trout's Season Is Over

    Headshot for Mike Trout

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout (wrist) was moved to the 60-day injured list on Sunday, and manager Phil Nevin said that Trout's season is over. Trout was hoping to return for the final week of the regular season, but he's not going to end up making it back after all. The 32-year-old fractured the hamate bone in his left hand/wrist in early July and made it back for one game in August before aggravating his wrist and going back on the injured list. He will finish his 2023 campaign with a .263/.367/.490 slash line with 18 home runs and 44 RBI in 362 plate appearances. Trout is no longer in his prime and is much more of an injury risk than ever before, but he should be fully healthy and ready to contribute for the start of the 2024 season.

  • Mike Trout Hits Off Tee

    Headshot for Mike Trout

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout (wrist) hit off a tee on Friday, and there's still a chance he returns at some point during the final week of the season, although time is running out. Trout returned from the injured list on Aug. 22 after missing 38 games with a fractured left-hamate bone, but he played in just one game before going back on the injured list on Aug. 25. He said he returned too soon and the pain was affecting the way he was swinging the bat, but he said he still expects to return in 2023. Further testing on his hand on Sept. 4 showed no structural damage. In yet another season that will end with no trip to the postseason for the 32-year-old, Trout is hitting .263/.367/.490 with 18 home runs, 44 RBI and 54 runs scored in 308 at-bats.

  • Mike Trout Will Start Swinging Soon

    Headshot for Mike Trout

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout (wrist) is traveling with the team on their current road trip and will starting swinging a bat soon. The 11-time All-Star didn't have any setbacks while taking dry swings earlier this month, so he's now ready to take the next step with an eye on returning to close out the 2023 campaign in yet another season that will end without a playoff appearance for the superstar outfielder. Trout fractured his left hamate bone in early July and returned from the injured list on Aug. 22, but he played in just one game before experiencing soreness in his hand/wrist and going back on the IL. Even if the 32-year-old is able to return in the final weeks of the season, there won't be much time for him to make an impact in fantasy.

  • Angels Could Be Open To Trading Mike Trout

    Headshot for Shohei Ohtani

USA Today's Bob Nightengale hears that "the Los Angeles Angels, perhaps for the first time, are open to trading All-Star outfielder Mike Trout (wrist) if he indicates to them that he wants out". Nightengale also reports that "Trout wants to have a private conversation with the front office and ownership about their direction". While it remains to be see if the Angels can retain impending free agent Shohei Ohtani this winter, they may be willing to explore what the trade market has to offer for their oft-injured 32-year-old superstar. But as Nightengale also notes, Trout owns a full no-trade clause and wouldn't land the Angels the same compensation he may have once demanded since he will have missed 249 games in the last three years if he remains out for 2023.The three-time MVP still holds seven years left on his deal, so he may turn out to be a tough sell despite slashing .283/.382/.579 with 66 home runs, 59 doubles, 142 RBI, and 162 runs scored in 237 games since 2021.

  • Mike Trout Expects To Return This Year

    Headshot for Mike Trout

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout (wrist) said he expects to return this year. He initially returned from the injured list on Aug. 22 after missing 38 games with a fractured left hamate bone, but he played in just one game before going right back on the injured list on Aug. 25. Trout admitted he returned too soon from the injury, but further testing on his hand showed no structural damage on Sept. 4. It will be about pain tolerance for Trout once he's ready to resume swinging a bat again. With the Angels now well out of playoff contention with the end of the season quickly approaching, fantasy managers may not get the 32-year-old perennial All-Star back again this year.
