  • Starling Marte Leads Mets Offense On Saturday

    Headshot for Starling Marte

New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte went 2-for-5 with a home run, four RBI, a stolen base, and two runs scored in Saturday's 6-4 win over the Dodgers. Marte belted a three-run shot in the sixth inning off Dodgers right-hander Ryan Brasier to put the Mets ahead 5-4. He has collected a hit in five of his last six games while driving in eight runs in his previous three contests. The 35-year-old has been healthy this season and is off to a terrific start, slashing .282/.330/.459 with four home runs, five stolen bases, and 16 runs over 20 games. Fantasy managers should continue to start Marte in all league formats while he's wielding a hot bat.

  • Offseason In Review: New York Mets

    Headshot for Austin Allen

After a disastrous 2023 season, there have been a lot of changes for the Mets. They have a new president of baseball operations, a new manager and plenty of new faces on the roster. With 2024 planned on being a sort of bridge year, the offseason moves ended up staying on the modest side, though…

  • Starling Marte To Make Grapefruit League Debut Wednesday

    Headshot for Starling Marte

New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (groin) is scheduled to make his Grapefruit League debut on Wednesday, according to manager Carlos Mendoza. Marte played in only 86 games last year while coming off double-hernia surgery the previous offseason, and he struggled to a .248/.301/.324 slash line with five home runs and 28 RBI, although he did steal 24 bases in 341 plate appearances before eventually being shut down with a groin injury. Injuries are a big concern for the 35-year-old veteran coming into the 2024 campaign, although he's apparently fully healthy this spring after playing in the Dominican winter league. Marte could rebound with better health this year, but the injury risk alone makes him more of a No. 5 of 6 outfielder for fantasy managers.

  • Starling Marte Ready To Play Every Day

    Headshot for Starling Marte

New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (groin) played winter ball last month and is confident in his health and ability to play right field every day for the start of the 2024 season after missing most of the final two months of 2023 with a right-groin strain. The 35-year-old veteran underwent double-groin surgery the previous winter. "I know that I am good [physically]," Marte said Sunday. The Mets will probably consider Marte for designated hitter at-bats in 2024, but his preference is to play right field. Marte appeared in only 86 games last year and slashed .248/.301/.324 with five homers and 28 RBI. According to manager Carlos Mendoza, Marte is still viewed as a full-time right-fielder. Marte can be a solid power/speed player for fantasy managers when he's healthy, but his age and injury history make him a pretty risky fantasy selection.

  • David Stearns Encouraged By Starling Marte's Health

    Headshot for Starling Marte

New York Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns said Monday that he was encouraged by outfielder Starling Marte's (groin) health heading into 2024. The 35-year-old, who played just 86 games in 2023 due to a groin injury, was able to participate in winter ball in the Dominican Republic. Stearns said, "It was clear watching him play that he was healthy." Marte has been a fantasy contributor in batting average and steals throughout his career, but he has not reached at least 600 plate appearances since 2018. While he still managed to steal 24 bases in just 341 plate appearances last season, Marte's fantasy value this season will ultimately be dictated by whether he can stay healthy.
