  • Starling Marte Taking A Seat On Saturday

New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte isn't in the starting lineup on Saturday against the Miami Marlins. This is just a scheduled day off for the veteran speedster. Jeff McNeil is taking over in right field and Luis Guillorme is filling in at second base. Marte has gotten off to a fantastic start this season, swiping two bags over the team's first two contests. He should be good to go for Sunday's series finale against the Marlins.

  • Starling Marte Back In Grapefruit League Lineup

New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (head) is returning to the Grapefruit League lineup on Tuesday against right-hander Cade Cavalli and the Washington Nationals. Marte was hit in the head by a pitch in spring action on Sunday, but he avoided a serious injury and will be back in there. The 34-year-old Dominican has played in only two spring games so far while being eased in after having offseason groin surgery. The two-time All-Star was limited to 118 games in his first year in the Big Apple in 2022, and he hit .292/.347/.468 with an .814 OPS, 16 home runs, 63 RBI, 76 runs and 18 stolen bases in 505 plate appearances and 118 games. Marte also dealt with a broken finger, so durability issues are a concern for fantasy managers.

  • Starling Marte To Be Re-Evaluated On Monday

New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (concussion) appears to have avoided serious injury. The concussion test came back negative, so the team plans to re-evaluate him on Monday. The right-handed slugger was hit in the helmet by a pitch during Sunday's spring training contest. Luckily, he left the field under his own power and appears to be doing well. It doesn't sound like Marte is going to need a stint on the injured list. Fantasy managers should check back on Monday after he has been re-evaluated.

  • Starling Marte To Make Spring Debut Friday

New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (groin) is on track to make his Grapefruit League debut on Friday. Marte underwent core surgery during the offseason, and manager Buck Showalter is taking every precaution to ensure his readiness for the season. Marte was one of the marquee offseason acquisitions made by the Mets before last season. He pocketed $78 million on a four-year contract, which included a $5 million signing bonus. The 34-year-old put together one of the most productive seasons in his 11-year career. Marte matched his OPS+ career high with a 132 mark and compiled a .292 average. He maintained a 19.2% strikeout rate with a .355 wOBA. The Dominican is one of the most envied hitters in the Mets lineup and hopes to continue his consistency at the pro level in 2023.

  • Starling Marte To Take Live BP On Thursday

New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (groin) is scheduled to take live batting practice on the field in spring training on Thursday. It's a good sign that Marte is progressing on pace. According to sources, the Mets already know what Marte's spring schedule is going to be and when he'll get into his first game. Barring any sort of setbacks in camp, the Mets are optimistic that the veteran outfielder will be ready for Opening Day. The 34-year-old had surgery to fix separated tendons from both sides of his groin last November. He also played through an injured finger late in the season and playoffs. Despite the injuries, Marte hit .292/.347/.468 with an .814 OPS 16 home runs, 63 RBI, 76 runs scored and 18 stolen bases in 118 games. He should run more with better health, and fantasy managers should consider him a top-25 outfielder with some injury risk.

  • Starling Marte Had Surgery On Both Sides Of His Groin

New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (groin) is a "slow go" at the start of spring training after he had surgery on each side of his groin in the offseason, according to manager Buck Showalter. Marte's legs bothered him for much of last season, but he's hopeful he can be more aggressive on the bases in 2023 once he's fully healthy. He also played through a fractured finger in the postseason last year. The 34-year-old expects to be ready for Opening Day, but the Mets will play it safe with him in camp. Marte's ability to bounce back in the stolen base department will be key for his fantasy value in 2023 after he hit a strong .292/.347/.468 with an .814 OPS, 16 home runs, 63 RBI, 76 runs scored and 18 steals in 118 games last year. If you draft Marte as a top-25 outfielder, make sure to back him up with some depth.

  • Starling Marte Expected To Be Ready For Opening Day

New York Mets manager Buck Showalter said that there's nothing to suggest that outfielder Starling Marte (core) won't be ready for Opening Day. Marte had core-muscle surgery last November, but fantasy managers may not have to wait for him to make his 2023 regular season debut. Still, the Mets will probably take it easy on the 34-year-old veteran in spring training, and he'll be one to watch when he gets work in games. In his first year with the Mets, Marte hit .292/.347/.468 with an .814 OPS, 16 home runs, 63 RBI, 76 runs scored and 18 stolen bases, but he only played in 118 games due to injury. He should continue to be a fixture near the top of New York's lineup this year, but declining stolen base numbers and injury risk make him a declining fantasy option.

  • Starling Marte's Status TBD For Spring Training

New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte's (core) status for spring training is up in the air following core-muscle surgery last November. "It has not yet been determined which of those tracks Marte is gonna be on, but it should be determined early next month," SNY's Andy Martino said. "It's likely that Marte is gonna spend some time with the Mets' medical staff and the training staff and figure out where he's at coming back from that core surgery." It means that Marte may not be ready for Opening Day, but we'll know more next month. It was already announced earlier this month that he won't play in the upcoming World Baseball Classic. The 34-year-old veteran also missed the last month of the regular season with a hand injury, but Marte played well in his first year in Queens when healthy, slashing .292/.347/.468 with an .814 OPS, 16 home runs, 63 RBI, 76 runs and 18 stolen bases in 118 games.
