  • Aroldis Chapman Reinstated From Injured List

The New York Yankees reinstated relief pitcher Aroldis Chapman from the 15-day injured list on Friday and placed right-hander Miguel Castro on the paternity list in a corresponding move. Chapman was expected to come off the injured list on Friday for the start of this weekend's series against the Cleveland Guardians after making his final minor league rehab outing for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre earlier this week. The Yankees will probably ease the hard-throwing left-hander back into high-leverage situations, especially with how well Clay Holmes has performed in a closing role this year. Holmes has earned at least a partial role as the Yankees closer, but New York wants to give Chapman his chances as well.

  • Aroldis Chapman Strikes Out Two In Tuesday's Rehab Outing

New York Yankees relief pitcher Aroldis Chapman (Achilles) struck out two, walked none and gave up no hits in a scoreless inning of work in his minor league rehab outing on Tuesday with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Chapman threw seven of his 13 pitches for strikes, and he's expected to be activated from the injured list now, most likely before Wednesday's game. There's a good chance the southpaw reliever won't pitch on Wednesday against the Oakland Athletics, but he should be ready to go again for Thursday's makeup game against the Houston Astros. The 34-year-old might not see all of the Yankees' save chances when he returns because of Clay Holmes' dominance in the role this year, but manager Aaron Boone wants to at least give Chapman a share of the duties.

  • Aroldis Chapman To Make Another Rehab Appearance

New York Yankees relief pitcher Aroldis Chapman (Achilles) will make another rehab appearance for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday before he's activated from the injured list. Chapman has two strikeouts in two scoreless innings in his two rehab outings for Double-A Somerset so far, and his return is right around the corner. Even though Clay Holmes has been much better in a closing role for the Yanks in the ninth inning, Chapman is expected to return as the team's primary closer once he comes off the injured list. Still, Holmes will pitch in high-leverage situations and should remain rostered in fantasy leagues. The 34-year-old Chapman obviously will be a must-start as the closer for the best team in baseball.

  • Aroldis Chapman Expected Back This Week

New York Yankees relief pitcher Aroldis Chapman (Achilles) threw a hitless inning with one strikeout in his second minor league rehab appearance for Double-A Somerset on Sunday, and the Yankees expect to activate Chapman from the injured list this week. The hard-throwing left-hander last pitched in the majors on May 22, but skipper Aaron Boone said over the weekend that Chapman will return to ninth-inning duties. The 34-year-old will likely rejoin the team on Monday against the Oakland Athletics, and fantasy managers will need to get him back into their lineups immediately. Clay Holmes has been much better as the Yankees closer this year, but Chapman will still have plenty of value if he's closing games for the best team in baseball. Chapman's return is bad news for Holmes, but he needs to remain rostered in all leagues.

  • Aroldis Chapman Set For Another Rehab Outing Sunday

New York Yankees relief pitcher Aroldis Chapman (Achilles) will make another minor league rehab appearance with Double-A Somerset on Sunday, and then he could be activated from the injured list, according to skipper Aaron Boone. When Chapman is activated, he will return to the ninth inning, which is bad news for those that have Clay Holmes, who has been lights-out as the Yankees closer this year. Still, we'd be surprised if Holmes is completely out of the picture for saves in the Bronx given how well he's pitched so far in 2022. Chapman gave up a hit and struck out one for Somerset in his first rehab outing on Friday, and he's closed out nine games for the Yanks this year while sporting a 3.86 ERA and 1.64 WHIP with 15 K's in 14 innings of work.

  • Aroldis Chapman Throws A Scoreless Inning In Rehab Outing

New York Yankees relief pitcher Aroldis Chapman (Achilles) made his first rehab appearance at Double-A Somerset on Friday. He pitched a scoreless seventh inning in the outing, allowing one hit and no walks while striking out one. He topped out at 99 mph on the radar gun in the game. Chapman, who has been out since late May with an Achilles injury, is expected to spend at least a few more days on his rehab assignment. The hope is that he will be back with the Yankees by the end of the month. Prior to the injury, he had gone 9-for-9 in save opportunities while pitching to a 3.86 ERA and a 1.64 WHIP. Yankees manager Aaron Boone recently stated that he expects Chapman to return to closing duties upon his activation, despite how effective Clay Holmes has been in the ninth inning with Chapman out.

  • Aroldis Chapman Starts Rehab Assignment Friday

New York Yankees relief pitcher Aroldis Chapman (Achilles) is beginning his minor league rehab assignment with Double-A Somerset on Friday. Chapman has been on the injured list for a month, but he should only require a short rehab assignment and could be activated to rejoin New York's bullpen at some point early next week. With how well Clay Holmes has done in the ninth inning for the Bombers this year, it's entirely plausible that the 34-year-old left-hander will share closing duties with Holmes once he returns to the Bronx. Holmes has been lights-out this year, while Chapman is 0-2 with a 3.86 ERA, 1.64 WHIP, nine saves, 15 strikeouts and 10 walks in 14 innings pitched. He'll obviously lose a lot of fantasy appeal if he's not saving games regularly.

  • Aroldis Chapman Set For Rehab Assignment

New York Yankees pitcher Aroldis Chapman (Achilles) will begin a minor league rehab assignment with Double-A Somerset on either Saturday or Sunday. The 34-year-old has been sidelined since May 22. He has been throwing bullpen sessions and reportedly looked healthy. Before landing on the injured list, the southpaw posted a 3.86 ERA, 1.64 WHIP with nine saves, and a 15:10 K: BB across 14 innings. Barring any setbacks, Chapman should return to action soon but will share ninth-inning duties with Clay Holmes, who has been electric this season. Holmes is a 4-0 with 11 saves while posting a 0.55 ERA, 0.73 WHIP, and a 34:4 K: BB over 31 games in 2022.

  • Aroldis Chapman To Face Live Hitters Next

New York Yankees relief pitcher Aroldis Chapman (Achilles) threw fastballs and sliders from the Yankee Stadium mound on June 14, and the coaches thought Chapman looked healthy. The next step will be for Chapman to face live hitters. He hasn't pitched in a major league game since May 22, but the 34-year-old southpaw is hoping to avoid a minor league rehab assignment. Before landing on the injured list, Chapman had a 3.86 ERA, 1.64 WHIP, nine saves, 15 strikeouts and 10 walks in 14 innings pitched. The hard-throwing left-hander will continue to see saves in the Yankees bullpen when he returns, but he could be sharing ninth-inning opportunities with Clay Holmes, who has been exceptional this year.

  • Aroldis Chapman Scheduled For Bullpen Session Saturday

New York Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman (Achilles) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Saturday. The southpaw has been sidelined since May 24 due to Achilles tendinitis. He's played catch but will throw off a mound for the first on Saturday since landing on the 10-day injured list. The 34-year-old owns a 3.86 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 15:10 K:BB across 14 innings in 2022. Chapman remains a few weeks away from returning and will continue to rehab his Achilles injury. Clay Holmes has filled in as the Yankees closer while Chapman has been sidelined and is one of the best relievers in baseball. Holmes is a perfect 8-for-8 in save opportunities with a 0.34 ERA, 0.68 WHIP and 28 strikeouts over 26 2/3 innings in 2022.

  • Aroldis Chapman Plays Catch On Tuesday

New York Yankees pitcher Aroldis Chapman (Achilles) played catch on Tuesday but has no timetable for a return. He was placed on the 15-day injured list with Achilles tendinitis. The southpaw has posted a 3.86 ERA, 1.64 WHIP, and 15:10 K: BB across 14 innings in 2022. Chapman is not expected to be activated from the injured list when first eligible on June 7th. Clay Holmes will handle ninth-inning duties while Chapman is sidelined. Holmes should be rostered in all league formats after posting an incredible 4-0 record with six saves, 0.36 ERA, 0.69 WHIP, and 26 strikeouts over 24 2/3 innings in 2022.

  • Aroldis Chapman Placed On 15-Day Injured List

The New York Yankees placed closer Aroldis Chapman (Achilles) on the 15-day injured list ahead of Monday night's game against the Baltimore Orioles. Catcher Kyle Higashioka was activated from the COVID-19 injured list in a corresponding move. Chapman is dealing with Achilles tendinitis, an injury that first flared up this past Sunday. While he is out, Clay Holmes is expected to step in as the team's primary closer. Holmes has been absolutely fantastic so far this year, converting each of his four save opportunities while pitching to a 0.42 ERA and a 0.69 WHIP.

  • Aroldis Chapman Likely To Land On Injured List Wednesday

New York Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman (Achilles) has not been moved to the injured list yet. However, Yankees manager Aaron Boone has stated that Chapman will "likely" end up there. The team is planning to wait until Wednesday to make an official move on their hard-throwing reliever. Chapman suffered an Achilles injury during Sunday's game and his MRI after the game came back negative. Fellow reliever Clay Holmes, who is 4-for-4 on save opportunities with a 0.42 ERA on the year, should be the team's primary closer for however long Chapman is out. Holmes is likely rostered in all leagues where saves are scarce at this point, but if he happens to be out there in your league, make sure to go grab him.

  • Aroldis Chapman Might Land On Injured List

New York Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman's (Achilles) MRI exam on Sunday night came back clean, and the team is treating the injury as tendonitis. The Yankees will assess all of their options on Monday and might make a decision on whether to put Chapman on the injured list later on Monday, according to manager Aaron Boone. The hard-throwing lefty probably won't be available to pitch on Monday against the Baltimore Orioles, so Clay Holmes is worth a pickup in fantasy if he's available off your league's waiver wire. Holmes recorded two saves for the Yankees last week and has allowed only one earned run while walking two and striking out 21 in 21 2/3 innings over a league-high 20 appearances. If you roster Chapman, prepare for a potential trip to the IL.

  • Aroldis Chapman Could Miss Time

New York Yankees relief pitcher Aroldis Chapman (Achilles) was removed early during Sunday's game against the Chicago White Sox. The left-handed reliever gave up two runs in a non-save situation during Sunday's loss. That led to a trip from the trainer, but Chapman wanted to keep pitching. He faced two more batters before deciding to exit the game. It's unclear if Chapman will require a trip to the injured list. Fantasy managers will need to stay tuned for another update on Chapman after his Achilles treatment.

  • Aroldis Chapman Shaky Again, Records Ninth Save

New York Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman recorded his ninth save of the season despite surrendering three hits and an earned run while striking out one during a 5-4 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday. In May, the seven-time All-Star has struggled, posting a 6.75 ERA, 2.25 WHIP, three walks, and nine hits with four strikeouts across 5 1/3 innings. Despite allowing runs in four straight games, the left-hander has yet to blow a save through nine chances. While Chapman doesn't appear to be in danger of losing his role as closer, it is worth noting the Cuban is boasting a 4.42 xERA, 25% K-rate, and 16.1% BB rate all career-worsts to start the 2022 campaign.

  • Aroldis Chapman Earns Second Save Of Season Tuesday

New York Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman picked up his second save of the season in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Tigers. Chapman came on to pitch the ninth inning up by two and recorded a 1-2-3 inning with a strikeout. The flame-thrower has now converted both of his save opportunities this season and has a 0.00 ERA and seven strikeouts over 4 1/3 innings pitched, but he has also walked four. Walks were also an issue for Chapman last season, but he should continue to see the majority of save opportunities for the Yankees as long as the walks don't become too big of a hindrance to his overall performance.

  • Michael King Bails Out Aroldis Chapman For First Save

New York Yankees reliever Michael King picked up his first save of the season on Thursday, helping his club defeat the Blue Jays 3-0 in the series finale. Aroldis Chapman began the ninth inning, but he was pulled after issuing three-straight walks to begin the frame and tossing just four of his 16 pitches for strikes. Manager Aaron Boone was quicker with the hook than he has been in previous seasons, and King didn't disappoint his skipper by striking out George Springer on three pitches before getting Bo Bichette to line out into a double play. Chapman's role as closer could be slipping from his grasp as saves in New York could come from multiple arms the rest of the way this season.
