  • Anthony Rizzo Hits Homer, Drives In Both Yankee Runs In Win

    Headshot for Anthony Rizzo

New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo had two hits, one a solo shot, and drove in the Yankees only other run in New York's 2-0 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night. Rizzo now has a hit in six of his last seven games and increased his OPS to .772 on the season. The lefty has been on a tear over the last two weeks, hitting for a .296 BA and a .926 OPS. Fantasy managers should keep an eye on Rizzo if he's available on the waiver wire and snag him up if possible. DFS managers should continue to target Rizzo against righties as he's hitting them for an .878 OPS. Rizzo will look to continue his hot streak on Saturday against Rays right-hander Zach Littell.

  • Anthony Rizzo Resting Against Left-Hander

    Headshot for Anthony Rizzo

New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo will retreat to the bench on Sunday in the series finale against the Detroit Tigers and left-hander Tarik Skubal. With Rizzo on the bench, Oswaldo Cabrera will start at first and hit ninth, with Jon Berti manning the hot corner and hitting seventh in the batting order. This will be Rizzo's first off day of the year after starting all 35 games to begin the season. The 34-year-old veteran slugger has had a strong year to this point, batting .263 (35-for-133) with six home runs, 20 RBI and 16 runs scored in his first 146 plate appearances. However, he's hitting just .175 (7-for-40) with no homers and 10 strikeouts against southpaws, so it makes sense to give him his first day off of the year against a tough lefty on Sunday. Neither Berti nor Cabrera will be particularly attractive low-cost DFS sleepers against Skubal.

  • Anthony Rizzo With A Home Run, Three RBI Saturday

    Headshot for Anthony Rizzo

New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo hit his sixth home run of the season in Saturday's 5-3 win over the Tigers, a three-run shot off Detroit starter Casey Mize. Rizzo also had a single, finishing the day 2-for-4 and bringing his batting average to .263. The 3x All-Star has collected at least one RBI in three straight games now, bringing his season total to 20, and has also scored 16 times. With a .338 wOBA and 122 wRC+, the veteran is having a solid season thus far. He'll have a difficult matchup in Sunday's series finale, facing off with LHP Tarik Skubal, although Rizzo is 1-for-3 with a double and no strikeouts against the southpaw in his career.

  • Anthony Rizzo Hits 300th Career Home Run

    Headshot for Anthony Rizzo

New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo has been heating up at the plate over the last week. On Sunday, Rizzo went 4-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in the blowout win over the Milwaukee Brewers. This marked Rizzo's fourth homer in six days and his 300th career long ball of his career. It came in his 1,664th game since debuting with the San Diego Padres in 2011. The six hits in the last two days has boosted his slash line to .277/.341/.446 on the season. Fantasy managers should check the waiver wire to see if Rizzo is available.

  • Anthony Rizzo Back In Action Monday

    Headshot for Anthony Rizzo

New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo (lat) is back in the team's Grapefruit League lineup on Monday against the New York Mets, serving as the designated hitter and batting cleanup. Lat tightness caused the Yankees to scratch Rizzo as a precaution from Friday's spring training game, but he's back in there on Monday after taking the weekend off. Barring a setback, the 34-year-old left-handed-hitting veteran should be New York's starting first baseman on Opening Day on Thursday, March 28, on the road versus the Houston Astros. Fantasy managers that took Rizzo as a corner infielder in mixed leagues are hoping he can stay healthy in 2024 and carry his strong spring results into the regular season. Rizzo currently has a 1.189 OPS and two home runs in the Grapefruit League.

  • Anthony Rizzo "Fully Confident" He'll Be Ready For Opening Day

    Headshot for Anthony Rizzo

After New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo (lat) was scratched from Friday's Grapefruit League game due to lat tightness, he said he's "fully confident I'll be in there Opening Day" and added that the decision to scratch him on Friday was a precaution. "He didn't seem too concerned with it. He said it's something he has every now and then during the season, but just wanted to be certain," manager Aaron Boone said. Fantasy managers that took the 34-year-old left-handed-hitting veteran as a power-hitting corner-infield option in mixed leagues will be hoping that Rizzo can carry over his strong spring training performance into the regular season. If Rizzo can stay healthy in 2024 after missing the last two months of 2023 with a concussion, he could be an excellent value play in fantasy.

  • Anthony Rizzo Scratched With Lat Tightness Friday

    Headshot for Anthony Rizzo

New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo (lat) was scratched from Friday's Grapefruit League contest against the New York Mets due to lat tightness. Manager Aaron Boone said during the game that Rizzo came to him 20 minutes before the game and said he wanted to come out and be cautious as it's something he deals with in the regular season. The 34-year-old has been enjoying a big spring, hitting .412 with two home runs and seven walks against five strikeouts across 41 trips to the plate, good for a 1.188 OPS. The veteran endured a down 2023 season, hitting .244 with 12 home runs in an injury-shortened 99 games after suffering a concussion in a May collision with Padres superstar Fernando Tatis Jr.

  • Anthony Rizzo Raking In Grapefruit League Action

    Headshot for Anthony Rizzo

New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo is enjoying a big spring as he looks to bounce back at the plate in the 2024 season. The veteran is hitting .433 (13-for-30) with two homers, eight RBI, and a 1.241 OPS across 37 trips to the plate. He also has seven walks against five strikeouts in that time. Rizzo enjoyed a solid start to his 2023 season but a May collision with San Diego Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr. on a pickoff play resulted in a concussion that bogged him down for the remainder of the season. Rizzo wound up hitting .244 with 12 home runs and a .706 OPS across 99 games for the season, the worst overall production of his career outside of his 49-game debut in the 2011 season. He figures to bounce back with some power but his 22 home runs and 67 RBI projected by ATC leave much to be desired at the first-base position.
