  • Brandon Crawford, Mitch Haniger Improving

San Francisco Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford (knee) will return to the Cactus League lineup this week. Meanwhile, outfielder Mitch Haniger (oblique) has started throwing and hitting in camp. Outfielder Austin Slater (hamstring) isn't doing any baseball activities with nine days until Opening Day. Crawford received a cortisone injection in his left knee last week and still has a shot to be ready to kick off the 2023 season, although at this point in his career he's not much of a mixed-league asset in fantasy. Haniger is making progress from a Grade 1 oblique strain, but he's unlikely to be ready for Opening Day at this point. Slater is expected to miss three to four weeks after straining his left hamstring in a spring contest last Thursday.

  • Brandon Crawford Being Shut Down For A Week

San Francisco Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford (knee) is experiencing left knee discomfort and will be shut down for one week in spring training. It's not a great sign for a player that his 36 years old, and there's a chance he may not be ready for Opening Day at the end of March. If Crawford isn't ready for the start of the regular season, Thairo Estrada could open the year as the Giants' starter at the 6. Crawford also missed time last summer with knee inflammation, so this is something to keep an eye on. At this point of his career, Crawford can't be counted on for much offensive production after he slashed .231/.308/.344 with a career-low .652 OPS, nine home runs, 52 RBI and 50 runs scored in 458 plate appearances and 118 games in 2022.
