  • White Sox Won't Use Traditional Closer

Chicago White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said on Monday that the organization doesn't plan to use a set closer to begin the season. The team is still without right-hander Liam Hendriks who continues to undergo treatment for non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. The organization doesn't have a timetable for his return, but hopefully he'll be able to pitch at some point. Until then, it sounds like the White Sox plan to go closer-by-committee. The primary candidates are Kendall Graveman, Joe Kelly, and Aaron Bummer. There probably won't be anymore clarity on this situation until closer to Opening Day.

  • Liam Hendriks Throws Bullpen Session

Chicago White Sox relief pitcher Liam Hendriks was able to throw a bullpen session on Friday, according to pitching coach Ethan Katz. This is good news for the right-hander who is expected to miss significant time. Hendriks continues to undergo treatment for non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. There is currently no timetable for his return, but the team should give an update on him closer to Opening Day. In the meantime, Kendall Graveman is expected to serve as the closer while Hendriks is sidelined. Graveman will be worth rostering in any fantasy leagues where saves matter, assuming he remains the closer.

  • Players That Could Move To The 60-Day IL Once Spring Training Begins

Just about every baseball team has a full 40-man roster now, with the Astros the only team with an open spot at the moment. That means that just about every transaction, be it a free agent signing or a waiver claim, requires a corresponding move. However, that could soon change as the injured list is…

  • Liam Hendriks Diagnosed With Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma

Chicago White Sox right-handerLiam Hendriksannounced on Sunday that he had been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, a form of cancer. White Sox GM Rick Hahn sent a statement regarding Hendriks, which was a follow-up to his own post on Instagram. As per Hendriks, the All-Star closer is beginning treatment on Monday and will take on this challenge with the same determination he displays when facing any other obstacle in life. The 33-year-old is a three-time All-Star who has served as the primary closer for the White Sox over the past two seasons. He owned a 4-4 record, a 2.81 ERA, and a 2.68 FIP and converted 37 saves across 57 2/3 innings in 2022. Let's hope Hendriks can fully recover and return to baseball activities soon!

  • White Sox Plan To Keep Liam Hendriks

The Chicago White Sox are saying that while they might be listening on trade offers, their current plan is to retain All-Star closer Liam Hendriks in hopes that they can bounce back and win the American League Central in 2023. The New York Mets reportedly have been feeling out the White Sox for a potential acquisition of Hendriks to use as a high-leverage setup man in front of All-Star closer Edwin Diaz. But it's looking more likely that Hendriks will remain in Chicago for the start of next season after making the All-Star team for the second straight season in 2022. He had a 2.81 ERA (2.68 FIP), a 1.04 WHIP, 37 saves and a 36.2 percent strikeout rate in 57 2/3 relief innings. Hendriks has 75 saves in his first two years with the Pale Hose and will remain an elite fantasy closer if he stays with the Sox.
