  • Yasmani Grandal Doing Baseball Activities

Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal (knee) has done some throwing from distance and taken light swings recently, according to manager Tony La Russa. The skipper believes that Grandal is ahead of schedule, but that remains to be seen. Grandal needed surgery earlier this month to fix a torn tendon in his left knee, but he's making good progress and could have a chance to return sometime in August, barring any setbacks. The 32-year-old switch-hitter has a very useful 14 home runs and .388 on-base percentage in 181 at-bats this year from the weak catching position, but he won't help you at all from a batting average standpoint (.188). For the power alone at the shallowest fantasy position, Grandal is worth stashing in deep mixed leagues. Zack Collins and Seby Zavala have been sharing catching duties in Chicago with Grandal sidelined.

  • White Sox Confident Yasmani Grandal Can Return This Year

The Chicago White Sox remain confident that catcher Yasmani Grandal (knee) can return this year after having surgery on Wednesday to fix a torn left knee tendon. Grandal is expected to be out for four to six weeks. The 32-year-old switch-hitter has been good for power (14 home runs) and on-base percentage (.388), but there remains a lot of swing-and-miss to his game, as evidenced by his .188 average in 246 plate appearances. With catcher being such a shallow position, Grandal is worth hanging onto if you have the room in mixed leagues. Zack Collins should see the majority of playing time behind the plate in Chicago with Grandal sidelined. He went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI in the win over the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night and could become relevant in two-catcher formats with the increased playing time.

  • Yasmani Grandal Expected To Miss 4-6 Weeks

Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal (knee) has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a torn tendon in his left knee and is expected to miss four to six weeks. Grandal exited Friday's contest early with the injury and was replaced by backup catcher Zack Collins over the weekend. The veteran tried to tough it out and start on Monday, but he ended up exiting early. Collins is expected to make most of the starts with Grandal sidelined. Collins is hitting .225 with three home runs and 19 RBI on the season, but he is worth keeping an eye on for now. Catcher Seby Zavala has been promoted to replace Grandal on the roster. Zavala was hitting .178 with five home runs and 15 RBI for Triple-A Charlotte and can remain on the waiver wire in all formats.

  • Yasmani Grandal Not Starting On Tuesday

Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal (calf) will be sidelined on Tuesday. Grandal first suffered left calf tightness on Friday and sat out on Saturday and Sunday. Grandal started on Monday and reinjured his left calf. Grandal exited early and was on crutches after the game. It's a curious move that the White Sox have decided against an injured list stint at the moment with the All-Star break coming up, but Grandal will remain on the active roster for now. Backup catcher Zack Collins will once again replace Grandal in the lineup. Collins will bat eighth on Tuesday in a tough matchup versus Jose Berrios and can be avoided in all formats for now.

  • Yasmani Grandal On Crutches After Calf Injury

Chicago White Sox manager Tony La Russa said after Monday's loss versus the Minnesota Twins that catcher Yasmani Grandal (calf) was on crutches in the locker room. Grandal first suffered left calf tightness on Friday and sat out on Saturday and Sunday, but felt good enough to give it a go on Monday. Despite trying to tough it out, Grandal reinjured his calf and exited early. No timetable was given on the veteran, but managers shouldn't rule out a stint on the injured list. Backup catcher Zack Collins would become the starter if Grandal does miss time and is hitting .227 with three home runs and 19 RBI on the season. Collins is a worth a look in very deep leagues, but there should be better options available on the waiver wire at the moment.

  • Yasmani Grandal Exits Monday's Game Early

Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal (leg) was removed from Monday's game against the Twins with an apparent leg injury. He was helped off the field after sustaining the injury on a check swing. The severity of his injury is unknown at this time and the White Sox catcher is considered day-to-day. Grandal went 0-for-2 with a walk before exiting. The 32-year-old was dealing with calf tightness entering Monday's game, but it's unclear if the injury is related or it's a new issue. Zack Collins would see an increase in playing time if Grandal were to miss any games. Collins has been an offensive force recently, hitting .300 (6-for-20) with one homer and seven RBI over his last six games. The 26-year-old can be used as a streamer and in two-catcher formats while he's wielding a hot bat.

  • Yasmani Grandal Returns To Lineup

Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal (calf) has returned to the lineup on Monday versus the Minnesota Twins. Grandal left Friday's contest early with left calf tightness and sat out on Saturday and Sunday. Grandal has been heating up lately and has nine hits over his last 28 at-bats with four home runs and 14 RBI. The veteran will bat fifth on Monday versus Bailey Ober and mangers should feel confident enough to start him in all formats.

  • Yoan Moncada, Yasmani Grandal Could Return By Monday

Chicago White Sox third baseman Yoan Moncada (hand) and catcher Yasmani Grandal (calf) could both return to the lineup on Monday, according to James Fegan of The Athletic. Grandal exited Friday's game due to right calf tightness, and was then held out of the lineup on Saturday and Sunday, while Moncada last played on Thursday as he has dealt with a bruised right hand. Manager Tony La Russa said that Moncada was taking batting practice prior to Sunday's game, and Grandal reported on Saturday that he was feeling fine and that he was being held out as a precaution. This is good news for the White Sox and for fantasy managers, as managers should anticipate having both return to action tomorrow. Make sure to slot them back into the lineup as soon as they're healthy.

  • Yasmani Grandal "Feeling Fine"

Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal (calf) reported that he is "feeling fine" while also indicating that he sat out on Saturday "just to be safe." The 32-year-old veteran exited Friday's series opener against the Tigers because of right calf tightness, and while he is considered day-to-day, there is a chance he may be available on Sunday for the finale. However, if Grandal needs another day to rest, Zack Collins should continue to serve as the backstop in his place.

  • Yasmani Grandal Out Of Lineup With Calf Tightness

Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal (calf) will sit on Saturday with left calf tightness. Grandal suffered the injury on Friday and exited that contest early. Grandal was stretching on the field and running on Saturday, so the hope is that he won't need a stint on the injured list. Backup catcher Zack Collins will replace Grandal in the lineup and bat eighth versus Tarik Skubal. Collins is hitting .236 with three home runs and 19 RBI on the season and can be avoided in DFS on Saturday. Grandal remains day-to-day.

  • Yasmani Grandal Will Not Play On Saturday

Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal (calf) will not play on Saturday after his early exit Friday night, according to James Fegan of The Athletic. Grandal exited the game due to left calf tightness prior to the bottom of the fifth inning, and manager Tony La Russa said they will evaluate him again on Saturday and will likely call up another catcher as protection. This injury comes at a bad time for Grandal, who had finally started swinging the bat well as he is slashing .333/.410/.727 with four homers, 13 RBI and nine runs scored over his last 10 games. Zack Collins should get the start on Saturday, and will be the primary catcher if Grandal misses an extended period of time.

  • Yasmani Grandal Exits Early With Calf Tightness

Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal (calf) left Friday's contest prior to the bottom of the fifth inning with left calf tightness. Grandal finished the game 1-for-2 with a RBI. Backup catcher Zack Collins replaced Grandal. For now, Grandal is day-to-day, but more should be known on his status as the evening goes on. If Grandal is forced to miss an extended amount of time, Collins would take over as the starting catcher. Collins is hitting .236 with three home runs and 19 RBI on the season, but he is worth keeping an eye on for now.

  • Yasmani Grandal Goes Deep Twice

Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal went 2-for-5 with a pair of home runs and five RBI in Wednesday's victory versus the Minnesota Twins. Grandal has really struggled offensively this season, but he has shown power when he has made contact. 14 of the veterans 32 hits are now home runs and he has driven in 36 runs on the season to go along with a .186 batting average. Managers should continue to roster Grandal due to his power.

  • Yasmani Grandal Continues To Warm Up With Bat

Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal went 1-for-3 with a walk and solo home run in Friday's loss versus the Seattle Mariners. Grandal has been warming up and has at least one hit in seven of his last 10 games with two home runs over that span. Grandal is now slashing .175/.385/.419 with 12 home runs and 30 RBI. Grandal is finally starting to produce and he is second in the league in home runs for a catcher. Grandal will look to keep it going versus rookie Logan Gilbert on Saturday and managers should continue to roster the power hitting catcher.

  • Yasmani Grandal Hits Pinch-Hit Home Run

Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal came up big as a pinch-hitter on Tuesday versus the Pittsburgh Pirates. Grandal pinch-hit for Zack Collins in the top of the seventh inning and took Tyler Anderson yard for a three-run home run. The home run gave the White Sox a 3-2 lead at the time, but it wouldn't be enough to hold off the Pirates. Grandal hasn't hit much this season, but it's been mostly home runs when he has. The veteran finished the game 1-for-2 and is now hitting .170 with 11 home runs and 27 RBI and is worth holding onto with his good power numbers.

  • Yasmani Grandal Leading The League With 26.8% Walk Rate

Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal has had a mixed season overall, but one category where he's really boosted fantasy managers is in walks. Grandal currently leads the league with a 26.8% walk rate, which is first in the league by a decent margin as Christian Yelich is second amongst qualified hitters with a 20.7% walk rate. Grandal is only hitting .156 on the year, but he has a .386 on-base percentage. He has 10 home runs and a 54.3% hard-hit rate that ranks in the 96th percentile. In many leagues, his batting average might be crushing fantasy managers, but his overall numbers show a very solid all-around hitter still.

  • Yasmani Grandal Goes Yard In Thursday's Victory

Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal went 1-for-3 with a walk and two-run home run in Thursday's victory versus the Toronto Blue Jays. Grandal hasn't had many hits this year, but he has been drawing plenty of walks and has shown power when he has made contact. The veteran is now hitting .160 with 10 home runs and 23 RBI. Grandal remains a good source of power behind the plate for managers that can deal with the poor batting average.

  • Yasmani Grandal Hits Seventh Home Run

Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Thursday's victory versus the Detroit Tigers. Grandal has been having a rough season offensively, but the power hasn't been there for the veteran. Grandal is only hitting .137 this season, but he has hit seven home runs with 19 RBI. Although the batting average won't help managers, Grandal is producing enough power to be an option behind the dish in most formats.

  • Yasmani Grandal Gets Another Day Off On Tuesday

Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal will sit on Tuesday versus the Cleveland Indians. Grandal only has six hits over his last 44 at-bats and only has 13 hits on the season, but he has hit six home runs and driven in 18 RBI. It's just a routine day off for Grandal and he will be replaced by Zack Collins. Collins will bat eighth and he should be avoided in DFS versus Shane Bieber. Managers should remain patient with Grandal, but time is running out for the veteran to turn his season around and it would be was to have an insurance policy with him struggling at the plate and getting more days off than normal lately.

Jun 1 · RotoBaller White Sox Yasmani Grandal
  • Yasmani Grandal Left Off Lineup Card For Second Straight Game

Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal will be left off of the lineup for a second consecutive game on Wednesday versus the St. Louis Cardinals. Grandal has really struggled at the plate this season with a .136 batting average, but he has six home runs on the season and has hit three over the past two weeks. There is no mention of an injury for Grandal, so it is a bit odd to see him out of the lineup for two straight games with the fact that Collins caught last night and turn around to catch an afternoon game. Backup catcher Zack Collins will once again suit up behind home plate and he will bat seventh versus John Gant on Wednesday. Collins hasn't swung the bat much better than Grandal and he is hitting just .194 with two home runs and six RBI on the season. Collins is a name for Grandal managers to consider, but managers should be able to find a better insurance option on the waiver wire. Grandal should remain rostered with a good career resume, but time is running out and managers have every right to be frustrated with the veteran.

  • Yasmani Grandal Left Out Of Tuesday's Lineup

Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal will have a routine day off on Tuesday versus the St. Louis Cardinals. Grandal has been off to a cold start offensively this season, but he has hit two home runs over the past week. Grandal will be replaced by Zack Collins. Collins will bat seventh and should be avoided in a tough matchup versus Jack Flaherty. Grandal should be expected to return to the lineup on Wednesday versus John Gant.

  • Yasmani Grandal Hits Sixth Home Run

Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal went 1-for-2 with a walk and a solo home run in Sunday's loss versus the New York Yankees. Grandal has been off to a very slow start offensively, but six of his 12 hits on the season have been home runs. He has also drawn 37 walks on the year. Grandal has shown some power this month, but is still hitting just .141 on the season. He may no longer be as powerful of an offensive threat as he has been in the past, but he is at least showing a power stroke and should be rostered in all formats with an impressive career resume.

  • Yasmani Grandal Absent From Friday's Lineup Card

Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal will rest on Friday versus the New York Yankees. Grandal only has 11 hits this season in 79 at-bats, but he has drawn 35 walks for a .350 OBP. The veteran has also hit five home runs and driven in 17 runs. Friday's absence from the lineup is just a routine day off and Grandal should be expected to return to the lineup on Saturday to face Gerrit Cole. Backup catcher Zack Collins will replace Grandal on Friday and bat eighth versus Jordan Montgomery. Collins only has three hits over his last 18 at-bats and is a risky option for those participating in DFS on Friday.

  • Yasmani Grandal Gets Wednesday Off

Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal will rest on Wednesday versus the Minnesota Twins. Grandal started on Tuesday night and went 1-for-3 with two walks and a home run. With a short turnaround this afternoon, Zack Collins will catch Lucas Giolito. Collins is hitting just .204 with two home runs and six RBI as the White Sox backup catcher. Collins will bat seventh and face off against Matt Shoemaker. Collins is more of a desperation play than anything in DFS Wednesday. The White Sox will have Thursday off and Grandal should have plenty of rest heading into Friday's series opener versus the New York Yankees.

  • Yasmani Grandal Will Rest On Saturday

Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal will rest on Saturday versus the Kansas City Royals. Grandal has been off to a rough start this season, but he has hit two dingers this week. Grandal has been drawing plenty of walks this season, but he only has nine hits over 72 at-bats. It's encouraging that Grandal is starting to show some power and managers should continue to remain patient. Catcher Zack Collins will replace the veteran on Saturday and bat seventh versus Mike Minor. Collins is a dart throw option in DFS.

  • Yasmani Grandal Resting After Long Night

Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal will sit on Thursday afternoon versus the Minnesota Twins. Grandal has been off to a sluggish start this season, but has begun warming up with two home runs and four RBI in his last two games. Grandal has drawn his fair share of walks this season with a .717 OPS, but he is hitting a weak .130 with four home runs and 14 RBI on the season. Zack Collins will replace Grandal on Thursday and bat seventh versus Michael Pineda. Collins is hitting .220 with two home runs and six RBI on the season and there should be better options to take a shot with in DFS.

  • Yasmani Grandal Hits Third Home Run

Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run versus the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday. Grandal has been ice cold at the plate this season and had just three hits over his last 43 at-bats entering Tuesday. Despite tonight's performance, Grandal has really struggled this season and managers should temper their expectations until he can string together some consistency at the plate. Grandal will look to build off of his success against J.A. Happ on Tuesday. He is now hitting .121 with three home runs and 13 RBI.

May 11 · RotoBaller White Sox Yasmani Grandal
  • White Sox Give Yasmani Grandal Friday Off

Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal will rest on Friday versus the Kansas City Royals. Grandal has really struggled in his second year with the White Sox and is hitting a weak .121 on the year with two home runs and nine RBI. Grandal deserves a longer leash then most players, due to his track history and position. Managers would be wise to pickup a catcher that can help them in the short term and hope that the veteran can get going. Zack Collins will be behind the dish on Friday and bat sixth versus Royals starter Brad Keller. Collins is hitting .211 on the season and is a dart throw in DFS.
