  • Yasmani Grandal Returns Friday

Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal (back) will return to the lineup Friday against the Cleveland Guardians, catching and batting fifth against right-hander Cal Quantrill. Grandal has been out since mid-June with back spasms but is ready to return after a two-week rehab stint. The 33-year-old was having a miserable year before the injury, slashing .185/.294/.237 with just two homers in 173 at-bats. Yikes. The only silver lining is that Grandal had been decent in June before his injury with a .308 batting average and six RBI in eight games. If he's on the waiver wire and you don't have a great option at catcher, he is worth the add for his power upside alone.

  • Yasmani Grandal Shifting Rehab To Triple-A

Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal (back) is moving his minor league rehab assignment to Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday. In three rehab games with Double-A Birmingham, he went 3-for-7 with a home run, four RBI, six walks and two strikeouts. There's a chance that he's able to return to the White Sox's lineup later this week, but if not, he should be ready to go to kick off the second half of the season. The 33-year-old veteran backstop has really struggled at the plate this year, hitting just .185/.294/.237 with two home runs, 15 RBI, six runs scored and one stolen base in 173 at-bats. Reese McGuire and Seby Zavala will continue to share playing time behind the dish until Grandal is ready to come off the injured list.

  • Yasmani Grandal To Begin Rehab Assignment Wednesday

Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal (back) said he will start a minor league rehab assignment on Wednesday with Double-A Birmingham and he hopes to return to the team after the All-Star break. Grandal will likely serve as the designated hitter through the weekend before moving to Triple-A Charlotte. The 33-year-old veteran catcher has been out for three weeks with back spasms, and the White Sox won't rush him back into action. Hopefully he can turn things around at the plate when he's back in the big leagues, as he was hitting only .185/.294/.237 with two home runs, 15 RBI, six runs scored and a stolen base in 173 at-bats before his injury. Reese McGuire and Seby Zavala will continue to share playing time behind the plate with Grandal sidelined.

  • Yasmani Grandal Runs The Bases On Sunday

Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal (back) ran the bases on Sunday, according to Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times. This marks a notable milestone in Grandal's recovery process. The 33-year-old was placed on the injured list with a lower back injury on June 13 and this is the first time he's done any running since then. However, he has been taking batting practice over the past week. Grandal's timetable is still unclear as of now and it seems likely he'll require a rehab stint prior to returning to the majors. He was struggling at the plate this year prior to the injury. Over 50 games on the season, he owns a .185/.294/.237 slash line to go along with two home runs, 15 RBI and six runs.

  • Yasmani Grandal Taking Swings Off A Tee

Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal (back) has begun taking swings off a tee. According to Scott Merkin of MLB.com, Grandal's back pain has "subsided to some degree," but he still has hurdles to clear, most notably with his running. He has yet to begin running since landing on the injured list about two weeks back. Though one could also argue the 33-year-old has yet to begin running since the 2022 season began based on his 1st percentile sprint speed. Merkin reports that Grandal remains without a timetable for a rehab assignment, suggesting that fantasy managers can expect to be without his services for at least another few weeks.

  • Yasmani Grandal To Ramp Up Activities Soon

Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal (back) will be ramping up baseball activities soon, according to White Sox general manager Rick Hahn. Grandal has been on the 10-day injured list since last Monday due to a lower back injury. Hahn stated that even though the team typically prefers rehab stints prior to activating players, Grandal will be re-evaluated in about three days after he increases his baseball activities. At that point, the team will determine whether a rehab stint is needed.

  • Yasmani Grandal Placed On 10-Day Injured List

The Chicago White Sox placed catcher Yasmani Grandal (back) on the 10-day injured list on Monday. The move is retroactive to June 12. The 33-year-old is dealing with lower back spasms. The injury first flared up on Saturday. He exited Saturday's game and was held out of action on Sunday. Reese McGuire got the start at catcher for Sunday's game and he's back behind the plate on Monday. The timing of Grandal's injury is unfortunate as he'd been heating up at the plate a bit lately. Over eight games this month, he's slashed .308/.419/.346 with six RBI.

  • White Sox Place Yasmani Grandal On Injured List, Activate Lance Lynn

The White Sox announced they’ve placed catcher Yasmani Grandal on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to June 12, due to lower back spasms. Coming off the IL to take his active roster spot is starter Lance Lynn, who is in line to make his season debut. In order to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for…

  • Yasmani Grandal Won't Be Available On Sunday

Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal (hamstring) won't be available for Sunday's game against the Texas Rangers. He left Saturday's contest after injuring his left hamstring while running to first base. The 33-year-old went 2-for-2 before leaving. He will undergo further evaluation and is considered day-to-day. Grandal has struggled this season, slashing .1985/.294/.237 with two home runs and 15 RBI over 50 games. Reese McGuire replaced Grandal in Saturday's game. The 27-year-old would see an uptick in playing if Grandal were forced to miss any games. McGuire isn't on the fantasy radar after slashing .227/.260/.278 across 34 games in 2022.

  • Yasmani Grandal Leaves Game Early

Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal left Saturday's game with left hamstring tightness. He was grabbing at his left leg after his second at-bat of the game, and then was pulled after trying to stretch it out a bit. Grandal went 2-for-2 before being pulled from the game. It is unfortunate timing for Grandal, as he was beginning to heat up at the plate with four hits in his last five at-bats. If Grandal is to miss time, look for Reese McGuire to take over as the White Sox primary catcher. Stay tuned for more updates as Grandal continues to be evaluated.

  • Yasmani Grandal Leading Off On Tuesday

Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal will serve as the team's leadoff hitter in Tuesday's game against right-hander Kevin Gausman and the Toronto Blue Jays. This will be his first leadoff opportunity of the year. He's primarily hit in the heart of the order this season. The team's primary leadoff hitter, Tim Anderson (groin), was placed on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday. Yoan Moncada (quadriceps) is out on Tuesday, but seems to be the best candidate for leadoff duties while Anderson is out. Grandal has struggled significantly at the plate this year, slashing .169/.279/.225 with two home runs, nine RBI and six runs over 41 games.

  • Yasmani Grandal Sluggish Through First 38 Games

Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal has had a poor start to the 2022 season, posting a .176/.273/.237 line across 38 games. In 131 at-bats, the two-time All-Star has just four extra-base hits (two doubles and two homers), five runs scored, and nine RBI. Advanced metrics suggest positive regression is on the horizon for the 33-year-old's batting average, with a .235 xBA. However, Grandal's .243 wOBA would be his lowest mark since 2017, hurting his value in OBP leagues. Given the position's lack of depth, fantasy managers should give Grandal a longer leash to see if he reverts to his steady self as June hits.
