  • Alek Manoah Pulled Due To Elbow Discomfort

    Headshot for Alek Manoah

Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Alek Manoah (elbow) left Wednesday's game against the hosting Chicago White Sox due to right elbow discomfort in the second inning after striking out three over 1 2/3 scoreless innings of work. There was nothing obvious as to why Manoah needed to exit the contest at first, but there wasn't much discussion on the mound before he departed and Trevor Richards took over. Manoah should be deemed day-to-day ahead of his next projected start that lines up for Tuesday against the division-rival Baltimore Orioles, but there's a chance he may need to either miss a turn in the rotation or head to the injured list. It's not what you want to hear after the inconsistent 26-year-old right-hander didn't rejoin Toronto's rotation until early May due to soreness in his right shoulder, but he's got a solid 3.70 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 26:8 K:BB through 24 1/3 frames (five starts) this season.

  • Alek Manoah Tosses Seven Scoreless Innings

    Headshot for Alek Manoah

Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Alek Manoah was outstanding during Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays. The right-hander struck over seven batters, allowing just one hit over seven scoreless innings of work. Fantasy managers should be well aware of Manoah's up-and-down career in the MLB. This was a strong outing but fantasy managers shouldn't jump onto the bandwagon yet.

  • Alek Manoah Saddled With Tough-Luck Loss On Sunday

    Headshot for Alek Manoah

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Alek Manoah had his best start in a long time on Sunday against the Minnesota Twins. Manoah allowed three runs (none earned) across seven innings of work and only threw 78 pitches. He struck out six batters while issuing one walk. Manoah was cruising through the start, but an error by Blue Jays infielder Ernie Clement in the seventh inning turned into a three-run home run from Carlos Santana three batters later. It was nice to see Manoah hold his own against a strong lineup after he gave up seven runs in his first start of the season. He is by no means a must-roster player, but there is some more streaming intrigue surrounding him for his next projected start against the Tampa Bay Rays. Fantasy managers should keep an eye on Manoah and consider picking him up if he strings together some momentum on the mound.

  • Alek Manoah Shelled In 2024 Debut

    Headshot for Alek Manoah

Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Alek Manoah got rocked in his first start of the season against the Washington Nationals on Sunday. Manoah allowed seven runs (six earned) in just four innings, giving up six hits and walking four while striking out six. He showed glimpses of his former self, but overall it was a lackluster performance for the big righty. The Jays have already committed to Manoah for at least one more start, but he will have to be much better to instill confidence that they can keep rolling with him. Fantasy managers should not consider starting Manoah until he can consistently deliver good outings, and he can be dropped outside of the deepest of leagues.

TODAY: The Blue Jays announced Manoah's activation today, and optioned left-hander Brendon Little to Triple-A in order to make room for the righty on the active roster. • Alek Manoah To Start Sunday For Blue Jays

    Headshot for Alek Manoah

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Alek Manoah (shoulder) is slated to make his season debut on Sunday afternoon against the Washington Nationals. The 26-year-old threw a side session on Friday after he was rocked for a 6.50 ERA across four starts with Triple-A Buffalo to begin his season. It's been tough sledding for Manoah since he was named a Cy Young finalist in the 2022 season as he posted a 5.87 ERA alongside a monster 14.2% BB% across 19 big-league starts. He was also optioned to the team's Florida spring training complex and refused an assignment to Buffalo after he scuffled in his big-league return. He will take on a Nationals offense that entered Saturday's action ranked 18th with a .303 wOBA on the season.

  • Alek Manoah Could Start On Sunday

    Headshot for Alek Manoah

Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Alek Manoah (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a side session on Friday. The right-hander is working his way back from a shoulder issue but appears to be ready to return. Manoah struck out 12 batters over six scoreless innings during his last rehab start. That being said, Manoah is a potential option to pitch during Sunday's game with Yariel Rodriguez (back) going down. Manoah has been up-and-down during his time in the big leagues, but a matchup against the Washington Nationals does give him some streaming appeal.

  • Alek Manoah Dominates In Fifth Rehab Start

    Headshot for Alek Manoah

Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Alek Manoah (shoulder) dominated in his fifth rehab start for Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday, throwing six innings of one-run ball on just two hits and two walks while striking out 12 batters. Manoah's return from soreness in his right shoulder appears to be on the horizon, and with rookie right-hander Yariel Rodriguez (back) getting placed on the injured list on Tuesday, Manoah appears to have a spot in Toronto's rotation waiting for him. The big 26-year-old right-hander is looking at an early-May activation from the IL, and Sunday's favorable matchup on the road against the Washington Nationals might be the date fantasy managers can circle on their calendars for Manoah's 2024 regular-season debut. Although Manoah limped to a 5.87 ERA, 1.74 WHIP, and 79:59 K:BB over 87 1/3 frames last year, he'd carry streaming appeal if he ultimately takes the ball on Sunday against the Nats.

  • Alek Manoah To Pitch Again Tuesday At Triple-A

    Headshot for Alek Manoah

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Alek Manoah (shoulder) will make another minor-league rehab start for Triple-A Buffalo next Tuesday. Not only is Manoah rehabbing from a right-shoulder injury, but he hasn't been good in three of his four rehab starts to this point. In his last outing with Buffalo on Wednesday, the 26-year-old allowed six runs on seven hits while walking four in just three innings of work. Even if Manoah is getting healthier, his performances don't exactly endorse him for a big-league call-up to enter Toronto's starting rotation. Hi rehab assignment will be up on May 6, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see him activated from the injured list and optioned back to Buffalo. Manoah's 2023 nightmare season has so far carried over to 2024.

  • Alek Manoah Set For Another Rehab Start

    Headshot for Alek Manoah

Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Alek Manoah (shoulder) is slated to start for Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday or Thursday, per manager John Schneider. Schneider liked Manoah's fastball command and slider movement when he watched his latest rehab start on video, but the Jays want the hurler to get one more minor-league rehab appearance under his belt before deciding what's next for Manoah. The big 26-year-old right-hander threw 92 pitches of two-run ball in his latest rehab outing and is essentially built up in his recovery from soreness in his right shoulder, and he figures to be an option for Toronto's starting rotation early next week if he bounces back well from the start. Rookie right-hander Yariel Rodriguez will get at least one more start, which is scheduled for Wednesday against the Kansas City Royals, sporting a promising 2.35 ERA (4.38 FIP), 1.30 WHIP, and 13:3 K:BB across 7 2/3 innings (two starts).

  • Alek Manoah To Pitch In Minor League Game On Saturday

    Headshot for Alek Manoah

Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Alek Manoah (shoulder) is scheduled to pitch in Saturday's doubleheader in Triple-A Buffalo. Manoah will look to avoid the issues he saw in his prior minor league start on Sunday in Single-A Dunedin where he gave up seven runs on five hits in just 1 2/3 innings pitched. Manoah has been dealing with shoulder fatigue since early in spring training. The 26-year-old is in desperate need of a bounce-back season. After finishing third in the AL Cy Young award voting in 2022, Manoah's 2023 was disastrous with a 5.87 ERA and a 1.74 WHIP. The Blue Jays are expected to compete for a playoff spot this season and anything solid Manoah can provide them when he comes back will be beneficial.

  • Alek Manoah To Make Another Rehab Start Saturday

    Headshot for Alek Manoah

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Alek Manoah (shoulder) will throw a side session in Toronto on Thursday and is then scheduled to make a minor-league rehab start for Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday. In his first rehab start with Single-A Dunedin over the weekend, Manoah allowed seven runs (six earned) on five hits (one homer) while walking four and striking out two in 1 2/3 innings. It was not the outing that he or the Blue Jays were hoping for as he tries to recover from right-shoulder issues this spring. Manoah is going to need to show much better control if he wants to rejoin the big-league starting rotation when his rehab assignment is up. Otherwise, the team could elect to keep him in the minors so that he can continue working on his issues after a nightmarish 2023 campaign.

  • Alek Manoah Shelled In Disastrous Rehab Start

    Headshot for Alek Manoah

Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Alek Manoah (shoulder) allowed seven runs (six earned) on five hits across 1 2/3 innings of work at Single-A Dunedin on Sunday afternoon. He walked four batters and threw just 26 of 58 pitches for strikes. It was a disastrous start for the right-hander as he attempts to return to the Blue Jays starting rotation. Manoah will get a few more rehab starts to iron out the kinks over the next couple weeks. Fantasy managers in deep leagues can utilize an IL-spot on Manoah if so inclined, but it does not seem like he will be able to recapture the form that made him a fantasy star in 2022.

  • Alek Manoah Slated For Rehab Assignment

    Headshot for Alek Manoah

Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Alek Manoah (shoulder) threw a three-inning simulated game in Florida on Tuesday. "He did really well," manager John Schneider said. Schneider also said the next step will "probably" be for Manoah to pitch in a game with Single-A Dunedin on Sunday, when he will likely throw four innings and add "at least 15 pitches or so" to what he has thrown. The big right-hander was limited to one appearance of spring ball before experiencing soreness in his right shoulder, giving up four runs in 1 2/3 innings. It sounds like Manoah is progressing well and could return to Toronto's rotation in late April after a couple of rehab starts in the next few weeks, but he's not at all a must-stash fantasy asset after stumbling to a 5.87 ERA, 1.74 WHIP, and 79:59 K:BB over 87 1/3 frames last year. In the interim, Bowden Francis will hold streaming consideration in the appropriate matchups.

  • Alek Manoah To Throw Sim Game Tuesday

    Headshot for Alek Manoah

Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider said that right-hander Alek Manoah (shoulder) will throw a three-inning simulated game on Tuesday against minor-leaguers. Manoah was only able to pitch in one spring training game due to right-shoulder soreness, but he threw 34 pitches in two innings during a simulated game last Wednesday and will continue to ramp up as he tries to rejoin Toronto's starting rotation. The 26-year-old should have a rotation spot waiting for him when he's fully healthy, but he may not have a long leash after being demoted to the minors twice in 2023 while posting a nightmarish 5.87 ERA and 1.74 WHIP with 59 walks and 79 strikeouts in 19 starts and 87 1/3 innings. At best, Manoah is a stash candidate in deep-mixed leagues as he nears activation from the IL.
