  • Edwin Diaz Won't Return In 2023

    Headshot for Edwin Diaz

New York Mets right-handed reliever Edwin Diaz (knee) won't return from the 60-day injured list to pitch this year. However, he will continue to throw bullpen sessions until the end of September. The Mets don't want to risk the high-end closer in a game given the fact that they aren't in playoff contention with the end of the season nearing. Diaz will be ready for a normal offseason and the start of 2024 after tearing the patellar tendon in his knee during the World Baseball Classic this spring. Now that we know Diaz isn't returning this year, Adam Ottavino should have the closing duties all to himself the rest of the way. The 29-year-old flame-throwing Diaz should once again be an elite closing option for fantasy managers in 2024 drafts despite missing all of 2023.

  • Edwin Diaz Scheduled To Throw Bullpens On Road Trip

    Headshot for Edwin Diaz

New York Mets relief pitcher Edwin Diaz (knee) is with the team in Washington D.C. and is tentatively scheduled to travel with them the rest of the way on their road trip. He has two bullpen sessions scheduled during the road trip, and the Mets want him to throw them in front of their training staff. The 29-year-old closer is still hoping to pitch again this year after tearing the patellar tendon in his right knee while celebrating during the World Baseball Classic in the spring. There's no guarantee that Diaz will pitch for the Mets down the stretch, but the good news is that he'll be fully healthy and ready to go for spring training next year at the very least. And even if Diaz does come back this month, there's no guarantee he'll even pitch in save situations.

  • Mets Notes: Alonso, Front Office, Carrasco

    Headshot for Pete Alonso

Pete Alonso’s future in Queens has been the subject of speculation ever since the first baseman was at least discussed with other teams prior to the trade deadline.  Since Alonso is a free agent after the 2024 season, there is a possibility he isn’t a long-term concern for a Mets team that is taking some…
