  • Hunter Harvey Blows Thursday's Save

    Headshot for Hunter Harvey

Washington Nationals right-hander Hunter Harvey was given the ninth inning in Thursday's contest with the San Diego Padres, trying to protect a 6-5 lead. However, the 28-year-old failed to close out the game, allowing three runs on three hits while striking out a pair, blowing his fourth save of the season. Harvey's been in the mix for save situations and has earned two saves over 23.1 innings while posting a 3.86 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, and 31.1% strikeout rate. Presumed closer Kyle Finnegan was tasked with the eighth inning Thursday and threw a clean frame, bringing his ERA to 4.50. Fantasy managers should stay updated on this situation to see if Finnegan continues to earn most of the ninth-inning opportunities.

  • Hunter Harvey Earns Second Save

Washington Nationals relief pitcher Hunter Harvey was asked to protect a two-run lead versus the Detroit Tigers on Sunday. The right-hander did excellent as he struck out two batters while throwing a perfect inning to earn his second save of the season. Kyle Finnegan collected the save on Saturday, so possibly the team is trying to give him extra rest. Finnegan has also struggled at times, so maybe this will turn into a committee type of situation. Harvey only needed 13 pitches on Sunday and has looked fairly impressive early in the season. Fantasy managers should stay tuned to see if Harvey looks to get more chances in the ninth inning.

  • Hunter Harvey Blows Save, Takes Loss Tuesday

    Headshot for Hunter Harvey

Washington Nationals relief pitcher Hunter Harvey did not get the job done in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Marlins. Harvey came in to pitch the ninth inning up by two. He got the first two outs on a flyout and a strikeout but then allowed a double, an RBI single, and a walk-off, two-run home run to end the game. The 28-year-old has seen increased late-inning action lately and has pitched well overall with a 3.32 ERA and 9.95 K/9 rate, but he has only converted one of four save opportunities. Three pitchers have seen save opportunities for the Nationals in the last seven games, including Kyle Finnegan, who pitched a clean eighth inning in this game, and Carl Edward Jr. Finnegan has the most closing experience but has pitched poorly, so hopefully Harvey will see more chances and take advantage of them.

  • Hunter Harvey Records First Save

    Headshot for Hunter Harvey

Washington Nationals relief pitcher Hunter Harvey was called upon to protect a one-run lead against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday. The Nats grabbed the lead after Joey Meneses smashed a three-run homer in the top of the ninth inning. After that, Harvey came on and threw a scoreless frame to record his first career save. This comes a day after closer Kyle Finnegan posted an ugly outing. Possibly, Harvey gets more save chances down the road, so fantasy managers will have to stay tuned.
