Miami Marlins second baseman Luis Arraez (leg) seemed to favor his left leg late in the 10-1 loss to the San Diego Padres on Thursday and was replaced at the keystone by Garrett Hampson in the top of the eighth inning. Before leaving the contest, Arraez went 1-for-2 with an RBI to raise his batting average to an absurd .382 on the year with a .903 OPS. The 26-year-old has had a couple injury scares so far in 2023, and hopefully this one doesn't turn out to be anything serious. It's possible the Marlins were being extra cautious in a game that had already been decided, but fantasy managers should check back for more details on his injury and whether it will cause him to miss any time. Arraez is one of the best hitters in the game.

Garrett Cooper On The Bench Wednesday

Miami Marlins first baseman Garrett Cooper is not in the club's starting lineup as they take on the San Diego Padres and left-hander Blake Snell on Wednesday night. Cooper came out of the gate white-hot through the first couple of weeks of the season but has struggled mightily of late. In fact, he's hitting just .175 with a .550 OPS in the month of May while striking out in 33.3% of his plate appearances for the month. For the season, the 32-year-old is hitting .235 with five home runs and a .655 OPS across 158 trips to the plate. Cooper doesn't offer much power for a first baseman, and with Yuli Gurriel and Luis Arraez seeing time at first, Cooper's playing time is in jeopardy moving forward.

A.J. Puk To Begin Rehab Assignment On Thursday

Miami Marlins relief pitcher A.J. Puk (elbow) is set to begin a minor league rehab assignment in Double-A Pensacola on Thursday. The left-hander has been sidelined since May 14 due to left elbow nerve irritation. The good news is, Puk has been progressing nicely over the last few weeks. The expectation is that Puk will only need a few rehab minor league appearances before he's ready to rejoin the MLB team. It'll be interesting to see what happens to the Marlins bullpen once Puk returns. Dylan Floro has been doing a nice job in the ninth inning, so possibly the Marlins go bullpen-by-committee once Puk returns.

Marlins Reinstate Jesus Sanchez From Injured List

The Miami Marlins reinstated outfielder Jesus Sanchez (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday and optioned infielder Xavier Edwards to the minors in a corresponding move. Sanchez is not in the team's starting lineup on Tuesday against the San Diego Padres, but the 25-year-old could eventually stepped back into meaningful playing time for the Fish after hitting .290 (20-for-69) with nine doubles, three home runs, 10 RBI, three stolen bases and nine runs scored in 77 plate appearances over 29 games played before his injury. Sanchez hasn't played since May 10 but appeared in three minor-league rehab games for Triple-A Jacksonville and went 3-for-12 with an RBI.

De La Cruz has posted a .900 OPS and .389 wOBA for the month while he's hitting .291 with six homers, three steals, and a .785 OPS across 50 appearances on the campaign. Sandy Alcantara Trying To Build On Last Start

Miami Marlins right-hander Sandy Alcantara is taking the hill on Tuesday to start the game against Ryan Weathers and the San Diego Padres. He was solid in his last start, going six strong innings, giving up two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out three in Colorado. Overall, Alcantara's struggled through 10 starts with a 2-5 record, 4.86 ERA and 1.22 WHIP, and has pitched to a 21.6% strikeout rate and 7.6% walk rate. After winning the Cy Young award in 2022 and posting a career 3.25 ERA, Miami's ace is still a must-start, especially against a Padres club with a team OPS of .699.

However, he was able to escape the jams and help his team get the win. Through four starts, Perez holds a 2.84 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 19/10 K/BB. JT Chargois Earns First Career Save

Miami Marlins relief pitcher JT Chargois was tasked with closing down the game versus the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday. Normally, right-hander Dylan Floro is the closer in Miami, but he was unavailable after pitching in three straight contests. Chargois was able to hold the two-run lead, but he didn't make it look pretty. Chargois gave up a leadoff single that was quickly erased on a double play. After that, Chargois walked the next batter and gave up a double to Hunter Renfroe. Then, Mike Trout came to the plate with the tying runs in scoring position. Somehow, Chargois was able to escape the inning without any damage and earn his first career save. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect Chargois to get many save chances with Floro healthy.

The speedster is batting .268 this year with a pair of long balls and seven stolen bases through 48 contests. Yuli Gurriel is taking his spot in the lineup, playing first and batting sixth. The 38-year-old has rebounded after a poor 2022 season, slashing .304/.354/.452 with three bombs over 31 games. Gurriel owns a .300 average off of lefties this season, and a .282 mark for his career, so fantasy managers can feel safe starting or streaming the former World Series champ.

However, the Fish will welcome him back with open arms, considering he was hitting .290 with 10 RBI, nine doubles, three home runs, and three stolen bases before going on the shelf. Sanchez hasn't been a coveted fantasy option this season. Yet, he'll draw more interest from fantasy managers if he picks up where he left off.

A.J. Puk Tossing Bullpen Session On Saturday

Miami Marlins relief pitcher A.J. Puk (elbow) is slated to throw a 20-pitch bullpen session on Saturday. It's another step towards the 28-year-old's return to action as he works his way back from dead arm. After acquiring Puk in a trade this past winter straight up for former top-prospect JJ Bleday, Miami is likely to be in no hurry to bring their presumed closer back before he's fully recovered. Puk has six saves, three wins, and 19 strikeouts in 14.2 innings while Dylan Floro has racked up four saves in his stead. Floro should remain rostered in all leagues as the Marlins stopper until the big southpaw returns. Puk's 2023 percentile rankings on Statcast are off the charts, so he signifies a crucial hold for all fantasy managers.

Floro was put into the game with one out, a runner on first, and the score tied in the eighth. He unraveled quickly and would have taken the loss in this one if it wasn't for Pierce Johnson having a rough outing as well. Floro had been looking like the favorite out of the Marlins bullpen heading into this one, picking up saves in his last four appearances. Miami Marlins starting pitcher Braxton Garrett may have authored the finest performance of his career on Saturday against the San Francisco Giants. In 6 1/3 scoreless innings, the southpaw allowed a lone hit and a single walk while fanning eight batters, but he received no run support whatsoever to potentially top it off with a win. The 25-year-old vastly upgraded his ERA to a still-unsteady 4.60 figure, which was originally cratered by an 11-run bludgeoning by the Atlanta Braves on May 3. Floro has now recorded a save in back-to-back chances. The right-hander owns a 2.66 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, and 18 strikeouts over 20 1/3 innings in 2023. "I don't know what more you can ask for than that," manager Skip Schumaker said of Cabrera's outing. He was throwing more strikes and it was the first time in his career that he didn't walk a hitter while going at least five innings. That's a significant blow to the Marlins and fantasy managers, as Chisholm Jr.'s slashing .229/.291/.403 with 14 steals, seven homers, and 16 runs and RBI. Owners can stash him everywhere, as he should come back to provide more power and speed later in the season. In the meantime, expect Garrett Hampson to take over in center. Perez then served up a solo homer in the fourth inning before being pulled during the fifth frame after another solo shot. There will be some ebbs and flows for Miami's number-one overall prospect, but Perez's initial showing should be deemed a success. The big righty should be started in fantasy with confidence for a plus draw against the Washington Nationals in his next scheduled start on Thursday in Miami.

Sixto Sanchez Experienced Minor Shoulder Soreness, Marlins Targeting Second-Half Return
The Marlins have been without Sixto Sánchez for nearly three years. The one-time top prospect and headliner of the J.T. Realmuto trade has had his career thrown off track by injuries. Shoulder problems have been the main concern, as Sánchez has twice undergone shoulder surgery since July 2021. That extended layoff has left Sánchez without a particularly clear…
May 10 · MLB Trade Rumors Miami Marlins Sixto SanchezMarlins To Promote Eury Pérez

The Marlins announced to reporters, including Craig Mish of the Miami Herald, they are calling up pitching prospect Eury Pérez. He’ll take the ball for Friday’s game. He’s not currently on the 40-man roster and will require a corresponding move to be added. Both this move and Pérez himself are unique in a few respects.…
May 10 · MLB Trade Rumors Prospects Miami Marlins Eury PerezJesus Sanchez Exits Early Wednesday With Leg Injury

Miami Marlins outfielder Jesus Sanchez was pulled from action prematurely Wednesday against the Diamondbacks. The 25-year-old appeared to hurt his hamstring while legging out a double during the ninth inning. He was having a monster day, going 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBI prior to suffering the setback. The speedy outfielder was trending up of late, too, hitting .476 (10-for-21) over his last five games, including Wednesday's effort. Look for an update following the game at some point on Sanchez's status and whether he'll require a stay on the injured list or not.

Eury Perez Being Called Up For Start On Friday

Miami Marlins pitcher Eury Perez is being recalled from Double-A by the Marlins to make his major-league debut against the Reds Friday. The 20-year-old will make the jump straight into the big leagues without any Triple-A experience. Perez has a strong 2.32 ERA with a dominant 42:9 K:BB ratio across 31 minor-league innings this year. The 6-foot-8 right-hander ranks as Miami's top-overall prospect and signifies a no-brainer add across all formats for his exciting upside. He has a plus draw against the unimpressive Reds lineup at home for his highly-anticipated debut Friday.

Jorge Soler Homers Twice, Racks Up Five RBI In Win

Miami Marlins designated hitter/outfielder Jorge Soler went 2-for-4 with two home runs and five RBI to lift the team to a victory over the Diamondbacks on Tuesday. The 31-year-old is supplying a ton of pop lately, going 9-for-24 since May 4 with four big flies and 10 RBI across this span. Soler seems to have fallen through the cracks a bit in fantasy, but his OPS now stands at a noteworthy .826 after this effort. The veteran slugger also has a potent barrel rate of 18.2% this year and he consistently occupies a premium spot in the Marlins lineup, making Soler worthy of some attention for fantasy rosters seeking power stats.

Braxton Garrett In Search Of Bounce-Back Start Monday

Miami Marlins pitcher Braxton Garrett is in search of a rebound effort when he takes on the Arizona Diamondbacks on the road. The left-hander was absolutely rocked in his last outing as he surrendered 11 earned runs on 14 hits -- including four home runs -- with two walks against three strikeouts in a loss to the Atlanta Braves. Garrett had actually enjoyed a nice start to his season prior to the outing as he surrendered just two earned runs across his previous three starts spanning 14 1/3 innings but that stretch came to a grinding halt against the Braves. Garrett takes a 5.81 ERA into Monday's start against a D-backs offense that is tied for sixth with a .334 wOBA on the season.

Andrew Nardi Picks Up His First Save Sunday
Miami Marlins left-hander Andrew Nardi earned his first save of 2023 in Sunday's 14-inning marathon against the Chicago Cubs. He threw a perfect frame with one strikeout to protect the 5-4 lead. Nardi owns a 4.60 ERA this season but has posted a strong 28.1% strikeout rate and 1.15 WHIP over 15.2 innings. AJ Puk, Dylan Floro, and Tanner Scott all pitched earlier in the game on Sunday, so the 24-year-old was one of the final options in the club's bullpen. Fantasy managers can't expect Nardi to see many more save opportunities the rest of the way.

Marlins Activate Joey Wendle, Option Xavier Edwards

The Marlins have activated infielder Joey Wendle from the injured list ahead of this afternoon’s game against the Cubs, as noted by Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald. To make room for Wendle on the active roster, the Marlins optioned infielder Xavier Edwards to Triple-A. Wendle was expected to be the club’s starting shortstop coming…
May 7 · MLB Trade Rumors Miami Marlins Xavier Edwards Joey WendleJoey Wendle Activated From The 10-Day Injured List

Miami Marlins infielder Joey Wendle was activated from the 10-day injured list on Sunday after missing a month with an oblique issue. The veteran infielder appeared in just four games and didn't record a hit before hitting the injured list in early April. Wendle isn't starting on Sunday against the Cubs but he should be available off the bench. Infielder Xavier Edwards was optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville in a corresponding move. There's not much, if any, fantasy appeal here.

Johnny Cueto Exits Rehab Start On Saturday

Miami Marlins starting pitcher Johnny Cueto (biceps) exited his rehab start for Triple-A Jacksonville on Saturday. The 37-year-old took a spill while attempting to make a play at first base in the third inning, resulting in a lower-body injury. Fortunately, he left the field on his own. Cueto has appeared in only one game for the Marlins in 2023. However, he became bothered by lingering biceps tightness in that one and has been on the shelf ever since. Hopefully, Saturday's departure was precautionary and won't cause him any setbacks.

Garrett Hampson Starting In Right Field Friday

Miami Marlins second baseman Garrett Hampson is making the start in right field and is hitting ninth in the batting order on Friday against the Chicago Cubs and left-hander Justin Steele. Along with playing some right field while Avisail Garcia (back) is on the injured list, Hampson is also seeing playing time at shortstop in Miami with Joey Wendle (intercostal) injured. It's good news for the 28-year-old in NL-only leagues, but he doesn't have a ton of upside otherwise. Hampson is currently hitting .250 (13-for-52) with six doubles, one home run, five RBI, two stolen bases and eight runs scored in his first 20 games in 2023. He won't hold much DFS intrigue in the nine-hole on Friday.

Huascar Brazoban Strikes Out Four In Relief Outing

Miami Marlins right-handed reliever Huascar Brazoban had an impressive showing out of the bullpen in the team's 6-3 loss to the Atlanta Braves on Thursday, allowing two hits and no runs while walking none and striking out four in only 1 1/3 innings. So far in just his second major-league season for the Fish, Brazoban has allowed five runs on 17 hits (one homer) while walking three and striking out 23 in 19 relief innings over 13 outings out of the bullpen. The 33-year-old Dominican also has picked up four holds, making him a decent option in deep holds leagues for the time being.

Marlins Designate Devin Smeltzer, Select Chi Chi Gonzalez

The Marlins have designated lefty Devin Smeltzer for assignment, the team announced. May 4 · MLB Trade Rumors Miami Marlins Chi Chi Gonzalez Devin SmeltzerJazz Chisholm Jr. Not Playing Against Lefty

Miami Marlins outfielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. is not in the starting lineup on Thursday for the series finale against the Atlanta Braves and left-hander Dylan Dodd. The Marlins will give Chisholm a normal day of rest in a day game and against a southpaw. Fantasy managers will want to pull him out of their lineups. The 25-year-old left-handed swinger heads into the weekend with a .239 average (27-for-113) with two doubles, a triple, five home runs, 13 RBI, 11 stolen bases and 11 runs scored in 123 plate appearances and 30 games played. He's on pace to shatter his previous career-high of 23 steals if he stays healthy. With Chisholm on the bench, rookie Peyton Burdick is starting in center field and hitting ninth, while Jon Berti serves as the leadoff man.

Bryan De La Cruz Returns To Starting Lineup Thursday

Miami Marlins outfielder Bryan De La Cruz will return to the starting lineup Thursday after getting a breather on Wednesday. The 26-year-old has collected just two hits across his last 29 plate appearances spanning seven games while he's struck out in 17 of those trips to the plate. It appears the club is easing him back into the lineup in a lower-pressure role as he'll hit eighth against Braves left-hander Dylan Dodd. For the season, De La Cruz is hitting .250 with two homers, one stolen base, and a .656 OPS across 103 trips to the plate. There's still plenty of upside for a player that homered 13 times with four stolen bases across 115 games last season along with a bat that ended up slightly better than league, as per his 104 wRC+, as a 25-year-old.

Chi Chi Gonzalez Has Contract Selected By Marlins

Miami Marlins pitcher Chi Chi Gonzalez had his contract selected by the big club on Thursday while left-handed pitcher Devin Smeltzer has been designated for assignment in a corresponding move. The veteran right-hander has largely struggled at the big-league level, posting a 5.66 ERA and minuscule 4.1% K-BB% across 68 appearances, 52 of which have been starts. Gonzalez has made three starts with the Marlins' Triple-A affiliate in 2023, working to a 4.54 ERA but also striking out just 12.3% of the batters he's faced across six starts. Smeltzer posted a 6.89 ERA in six appearances (one start) with the Marlins this season spanning 15 2/3 innings of work.

The Marlins announced a handful of roster moves Wednesday, designating righty Johan Quezada for assignment and selecting the contract of lefty Devin Smeltzer (who’d cleared outright waivers earlier today) in his place. May 3 · MLB Trade Rumors Miami Marlins Johan Quezada Devin SmeltzerPeyton Burdick Called Up, Garrett Cooper Goes On Injured List

The Miami Marlins recalled outfield prospect Peyton Burdick from Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday and placed first baseman/outfielder Garrett Cooper (ear) on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move with an inner-ear infection. The Marlins also selected left-hander Devin Smeltzer's contract from Triple-A and designated right-hander Johan Quezada for assignment. Burdick hit just .207 with four home runs and 11 RBI in his first 32 big-league games in 2022, but he was hitting .293 (29-for-99) with four doubles, 10 home runs, 24 RBI and five steals in 25 games at Triple-A before his call-up. The 26-year-old is worth a pickup in deep-mixed and NL-only leagues. Cooper should be back when he's eligible to return, and Yuli Gurriel will hold down the fort at first base in the meantime.

Bryan De La Cruz On The Bench Wednesday

Miami Marlins outfielder Bryan De La Cruz is not in Wednesday's starting lineup against the Atlanta Braves and right-hander Kyle Wright. The 26-year-old gets a breath amid a big slump that's seen him record just two hits -- both singles -- over his last 29 trips to the plate while he's racked up an eye-popping 17 strikeouts in that time. He also has 11 punchouts over his last 17 plate appearances with one hit in that span. For the season, De La Cruz is hitting .253 with two home runs, one stolen base, and a .662 OPS across 102 trips to the plate. Jesus Sanchez will slide over to left field in De La Cruz's stead while Garrett Hampson enters the lineup and will man right field.
