Michael Kopech Allows Two Homers In Monday Loss

Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Michael Kopech fell to 3-5 in Monday's 6-4 loss to the Angels. Kopech pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on five hits (including two home runs) and two walks with 10 strikeouts. The 27-year-old continued to flash his strikeout prowess, but the walks and home run issues that have plagued him throughout the season re-emerged. Kopech now has a 4.52 ERA, 10.22 K/9 rate, 4.52 BB/9 rate, and 2.04 HR/9 rate through 11 starts. He should have a chance to rebound in his next start against the Tigers.

Liam Hendriks Receives Huge Ovation, Allows Two Runs In Season Debut

The results of his outing were nowhere near as important as its meaning for Chicago White Sox relief pitcher Liam Hendriks in Monday's 6-4 loss to the Angels. Making his 2023 debut after recovering from non-Hodgkins lymphoma, Hendriks received several ovations throughout the evening. He pitched the eighth inning and did not factor, allowing two runs on three hits and a walk with no strikeouts. The veteran topped out at 96.6 MPH and should be eased back into primary closing duties. Hendriks has been a top fantasy closer for the past several seasons and should eventually receive the opportunity to be one once again this season.

Liam Hendriks Officially Activated From Injured List

Chicago White Sox relief pitcher Liam Hendriks was officially activated from the 15-day injured list on Monday and reliever Jimmy Lambert (ankle) was placed on the injured list with right-ankle inflammation in a corresponding move, according to general manager Rick Hahn. Hendriks will be making his 2023 debut when he gets into a game after missing all of the season to this point while recovering from non-Hodgkins lymphoma. The 34-year-old veteran reliever will probably be eased back into high-leverage situations at the back end of Chicago's bullpen, but he's completely cancer-free and is fully expected to return to primary closing duties for the Pale Hose sooner than later. Hendriks is rostered in 75% of Yahoo leagues, and that number should be on the rise.

Yoan Moncada Back In The Starting Lineup Monday

Chicago White Sox third baseman Yoan Moncada is back in the starting lineup Monday when the club opens up a series against Griffin Canning and the visiting Los Angeles Angels. Moncada didn't start Sunday's series finale in Detroit but did go hitless in his lone plate appearance later in the contest. The former top prospect is having a nice season, hitting .288 with two homers, seven doubles, one triple, and a .764 OPS across 99 plate appearances on the campaign. Jake Burger's excellence has made it tough for Moncada to start every day but he will indeed start and hit fifth Monday night while Andrew Vaughn checks in as the club's designated hitter, batting sixth.

Fantasy managers should make sure to adjust their lineups with Grandal out.

White Sox Reinstate Eloy Jimenez From Injured List

The Chicago White Sox reinstated outfielder Eloy Jimenez (appendix) from the 10-day injured list on Sunday and optioned outfielder Adam Haseley to Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move. Jimenez is right back in the starting lineup, playing right field and batting second on Sunday against the Detroit Tigers and left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez. The 26-year-old will return to the Pale Hose after missing almost a month after having an appendectomy, but fantasy managers will have him back after he played in three minor-league rehab games for Charlotte. Before he hit the injured list, Jimenez was hitting .258 (25-for-97) with four doubles, four home runs, 15 RBI and 12 runs scored in 25 games played. He will return to being an everyday player for Chicago in the outfield/designated hitter.

Eloy Jimenez Could Return To The Team As Soon As Sunday

Chicago White Sox outfielder Eloy Jimenez (appendectomy) could return to the team as early as Sunday against the Detroit Tigers, per manager Pedro Grifol. This is encouraging news for the White Sox and fantasy managers alike. Jimenez has appeared in three games on his minor league rehab assignment with Double-A Birmingham and hasn't suffered any setbacks. He's been out since the beginning of May after undergoing an appendectomy. It's worth checking your waiver wire to see if he's still available in any leagues where he was dropped.

Luis Robert Jr. Out Against Tigers

Chicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert Jr. is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's contest against the Detroit Tigers. Robert dealt with tightness in his hip earlier in the week and didn't play on Wednesday, but this looks to be just a normal day of rest for the oft-injured outfielder. In the two games since his return, the 25-year-old has gone hitless in seven at-bats and will start on the bench on Saturday. Robert should be in most starting fantasy lineups whenever he's on the field, as he can do it all with the bat when he's healthy. He's currently hitting .263 (50-for-190) with 13 doubles, 13 homers, 29 RBI, two steals and 35 runs in 51 games. Clint Frazier is starting in center field on Saturday and is hitting eighth against Tigers right-hander Michael Lorenzen.

Liam Hendriks Throws Batting Practice Session

Chicago White Sox relief pitcher Liam Hendriks was able to throw a live batting practice session on Friday. The right-hander threw around 20 pitches to three different batters. This might be the final hurdle for Hendriks to clear before he's able to return from the injured list. The team has not given a clear timetable on his return, so fantasy managers will need to be patient. He was diagnosed with non-hodgkins lymphoma in January, but is now cancer free. He'll likely be eased back into action once he's cleared to return. However, he's expected to be the full-time closer once he's back to 100 percent.

The 25-year-old should be returned to all starting fantasy lineups. Robert is starting to heat up in the month of May and is now slashing .273/.328/.557 with an .886 OPS, 13 doubles, 13 home runs, 29 RBI, two stolen bases and 34 runs scored in 201 trips to the plate over 49 games played.

The veteran has emerged as the primary candidate for save opportunities for the Sox lately and has converted all of his save opportunities with a 3.10 ERA, 8.85 K/9 rate, and 3.98 BB/9 rate. Liam Hendriks is in the process of getting ready to return to the team and should take over the closer's role when ready, but Graveman appears to be a useful fantasy option until that happens.

Eloy Jimenez To Spend 3-4 Days On Rehab Assignment

Chicago White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said that outfielder Eloy Jimenez (abdomen) will spend three to four days on a minor-league rehab assignment with Double-A Birmingham this week before the team evaluates him. Infielder Elvis Andrus (oblique) will also need a rehab assignment, and it probably won't come until next week. If everything goes well for Jimenez at Birmingham, he could come off the injured list to join the White Sox this weekend. The 26-year-old slugger has been sidelined since early May after having an emergency appendectomy, so fantasy managers may want to prepare for some rust when he returns. He's played in 25 games this year and has hit .258 (25-for-97) with four doubles, four home runs and 15 RBI. When healthy, Jimenez is an everyday player for the Pale Hose.

Liam Hendriks Expected To Throw Again Friday

Chicago White Sox closer Liam Hendriks is now expected to have his next throwing session on Friday. Manager Pedro Grifol said Hendrik's velocity and stuff "ticked up" during his simulated game on Monday. There is no set date for his return from the injured list, but it sounds like the team will make a decision on him after he throws again on Friday. As long as the 34-year-old right-handed reliever looks good again on Friday, he'll likely come off the injured list this weekend in order to make his 2023 debut. Hendriks has been out all year after being diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma in January, but he's cancer-free now. He didn't look good on a short minor-league rehab assignment and will likely be eased into high-leverage situations initially, but Hendriks is fully expected to return to closer duties when he's ready this year.

Chicago White Sox third baseman Jake Burger is serving as the designated hitter and is batting second in the lineup on Tuesday against the Cleveland Guardians and left-hander Logan Allen. Meanwhile, outfielder Andrew Benintendi is being moved down to No. 6 in the batting order against the southpaw pitcher. Burger was taking groundballs at second base prior to Tuesday's game as well, and manager Pedro Grifol said the 27-year-old could be an option at the keystone moving forward. The White Sox are looking for ways to keep Burger in the starting lineup due to the fact he's hitting .271 (26-for-96) on the year with six doubles, a triple, 10 home runs and 23 RBI in 31 games. He'll be even more attractive as a low-cost DFS commodity on Tuesday out of the two-hole.

Andrew Benintendi Drops To Sixth In Tuesday's Starting Lineup

Chicago White Sox outfielder Andrew Benintendi has been demoted to sixth in the starting lineup Tuesday versus the Cleveland Guardians. It's just the fifth start out of the six-hole for the former top Red Sox prospect as he's largely hit second of late. However, the drop in the order can be attributed to left-hander Logan Allen getting the nod for the Guardians. Benintendi, who will carry a nine-game hitting streak into Tuesday's contest, has actually handled same-handed pitching well this season as per his .286 average and .748 OPS against them, but he's still without a home run across 189 trips to the plate on the season. Jake Burger is hitting out of Benintendi's usual two-hole Tuesday night in Cleveland.

Connor McCullough Flashing Dominance In Single-A
Chicago White Sox minor-league pitcher Connor McCullough, 23, was signed as a non-drafted free agent out of Kansas State in 2022. A low-risk addition at the time, the right-hander has developed into a very promising arm within Chicago's system. Despite a limited sample size, one could argue that the White Sox found a true diamond in the rough. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound hurler has a standard four-pitch mix with a fastball, curveball, slider, and changeup. The fastball and curveball appear to be his best two offerings; they complement each other nicely and both have proven to be effective at striking batters out. He has also done a great job locating the strike zone, minimizing walks and home runs and inducing plenty of weak contact. This past week, McCullough delivered an impressive seven-inning no-hitter. He allowed just one walk and struck out eight batters along the way. Furthermore, he has not allowed a single run through three starts in the month of May. Keep an eye on McCullough, because it appears the White Sox might have uncovered a rising star.

The White Sox have informed reporters, including James Fegan of The Athletic, that right-hander Davis Martin has undergone Tommy John surgery. Martin, 26, made his major league debut last year. Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Lance Lynn had arguably his best start of the season in a win over the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday, fanning seven batters en route to earning his second win. He sat down the first 11 hitters of the game without a scratch and was ultimately charged with just one earned run. The 36-year-old needed an encouraging game in the worst way after holding an ugly 8.15 ERA over seven starts since Opening Day. Despite the struggles, the two-time all-star's annually strong fastball spin remains intact. Lynn takes on the Kansas City Royals for a favorable matchup in his next start on Sunday, when he looks to build on Tuesday's showing. The big righty is 8-4 with a 3.83 ERA over 15 career starts against Kansas City.

Chicago White Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet has been reinstated from the 10-day injured list and will make his long-awaited return to action following Tommy John surgery in April of 2022. In a corresponding move, right-hander Nick Padilla was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte. Crochet, the 11th overall pick of the 2020 draft, hasn't pitched since October of 2021 after being fast-tracked to the big leagues as a flame-throwing left-handed reliever. He made his MLB debut the same year in which he was drafted while he's compiled a 2.54 ERA and 29% K% across 59 career outings out of the White Sox bullpen. He will certainly be welcomed back with open arms considering White Sox relievers have combined for a 5.97 ERA this season, good for 29th in all of baseball.

Liam Hendriks Scheduled For Two More Rehab Games

Chicago White Sox reliever Liam Hendriks (cancer) is scheduled to make two more rehab appearances on Monday and Wednesday with Triple-A Charlotte, according to MLB.com. After that, he will be re-evaluated, and he could return to the big league club by next week. The rehab assignment hasn't been friendly to Hendriks thus far, as he owns an 11.25 ERA. However, the right-hander has been a dominant arm on the mound the last few years and pitched to a 2.81 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and 36.2% strikeout rate with 37 saves in 2022. Fantasy managers should be excited to get Hendriks back, who will take over as the White Sox closer as soon as he's on the field.

He's been fantasy's number-one overall player in mixed roto leagues during this sizzling hot two-week streak. The former Gold Glover has just one stolen base in 2023, but fantasy managers will embrace the power surge with open arms. Robert is now slashing .268/.331/.537 this year. It sounds like the organization intended on Grandal playing on Saturday, but possibly he suffered a setback during warmups. Chicago White Sox infielder/outfielder Romy Gonzalez (shoulder) was activated from the 10-day injured list on Saturday. The 26-year-old has struggled this season, batting .139 with 14 strikeouts, five hits, one RBI, and one stolen base in 36 at-bats. He's been out of commission since the beginning of May because of right shoulder inflammation and could see some more work with Elvis Andrus (oblique) landing on the IL on Saturday. However, that doesn't mean Gonzalez will do anything meaningful for fantasy managers, considering he hasn't played well in 2023.

Dylan Cease Has Work Cut Out To Get Right Versus Astros

Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Dylan Cease battles the Houston Astros on Saturday. It's been a tale of two halves for 27-year-old thus far, yielding two runs or fewer for a 2.01 ERA across his first four starts. Over Cease's next four starts, he's allowed 20 earned runs, watching his ERA swell to 5.58. The right-hander is being crushed by a 53% hard-hit rate this year. Cease aims to curb his troubles against an Astros lineup that has yet to break out in 2023 (.367 team slugging percentage), but he is 0-3 with a shaky 5.13 ERA in 26.1 career innings against Houston. Cease is a contrarian DFS play and fantasy managers in season-long settings wouldn't be remiss to sit the struggling starter for this one, either.

Look for an update on the 34-year-old's status ahead of Saturday's game, but it would be reasonable to expect a day off for that one. Never regarded for his pop, the veteran contact hitter is bottoming out with a feeble .254 slugging percentage across 134 at-bats with one homer and 13 RBI, but Andrus at least has five stolen bases in his 15th season.

Yasmani Grandal Expected To Be "Alright"

Chicago White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said after Thursday's game against the Kansas City Royals that he hadn't gotten a full report on catcher Yasmani Grandal's (hamstring) condition and was hesitant to give definitive word because of that. However, Grifol did say, "I think he's going to be alright." The 34-year-old veteran backstop went 2-for-2 on Thursday but was pulled early due to hamstring tightness. It sounds as though he won't need to go on the injured list, but there's still a good chance that Grandal will miss at least a game or two. Seby Zavala will likely take over behind the dish for any games that Grandal misses. In 35 games this year, Grandal has hit a solid .270 (31-for-115) with nine doubles, three home runs and 11 RBI.

The Pale Hose should also get third baseman Jake Burger (oblique) back from the 10-day injured list later this weekend. Hanser Alberto has been seeing most of the playing time at third with both Moncada and Burger on the shelf. The 27-year-old Moncada can't seem to stay healthy, but his fantasy managers will be hoping he can pick up where he left off before his injury. The 27-year-old is dealing with a mild left oblique strain, so he should be back in the big leagues soon, barring a setback. However, with Yoan Moncada (back) expected to rejoin the White Sox this weekend as well, Burger may not be in line for much playing time at the hot corner. The team has been using Hanser Alberto at third base recently with both Burger and Moncada on the injured list. The 34-year-old is cancer-free after being diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma early in the year, and he should eventually reclaim his role as the club's primary closer when he's ready. So far in the minors during his rehab, he's given up a run in two innings of work. If Hendriks is available on your league's waiver wire, scoop him up now.

Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Mike Clevinger will get the start for Thursday's game against Brady Singer and the Kansas City Royals. The 32-year-old will look to get on track, as he's pitched to a 4.84 ERA, 1.53 WHIP, and 20.6% strikeout rate with two wins across seven starts so far. Those numbers are a far cry from Clevinger's first five seasons in the bigs when he posted a 3.19 ERA and 27.3% strikeout rate with the Cleveland Guardians and San Diego Padres. The right-hander has lost almost all of his value during the last two campaigns, and fantasy managers should feel safe dropping him for a higher-upside arm on the waiver wire in most leagues.

Anderson had been out since April 10 due to a knee injury, but he's now back as one of the most dynamic shortstops in the game. The 29-year-old has only played in 12 games in 2023 because of his knee injury, and he's gone 14-for-51 (.275) with five doubles, four RBI, five stolen bases and nine runs scored in 54 plate appearances. Anderson has yet to clear the fences yet, but he remains a must-start in all fantasy lineups when he's in the lineup.

Andrew Benintendi Still Isn't 100 Percent

According to Chicago White Sox manager Pedro Grifol, outfielder Andrew Benintendi's (elbow) right elbow is "not even close to 100 percent," James Fegan of The Athletic reports. The 28-year-old was hit by a pitch on his elbow during Friday's contest and missed two straight games Saturday and Sunday. However, he was able to play on Tuesday and went 1-for-5 with an RBI. Fantasy managers can expect to see Benintendi in the lineup despite his ailment, but his performance may be lacking until he's fully healed. The former top prospect is slashing .277/.330/.327 with 14 runs, six RBI, and four steals and is still searching for his first home run through 26 games.

Liam Hendriks To Begin Rehab Assignment Wednesday

Chicago White Sox relief pitcher Liam Hendriks will head out on a minor-league rehab assignment on Wednesday, a week shy of four months since announcing his cancer diagnosis of non-Hodgkins lymphoma. It's great news for Hendriks and the White Sox, but there's still no timetable for when he might make his 2023 debut after being cancer-free. The 34-year-old right-hander should be ready to go in the middle of May, and he should eventually become the team's primary closing option again, although fantasy managers should expect the White Sox to ease him back into a high-leverage role. If Hendriks is available on your waiver wire, scoop him up now. Kendall Graveman should continue to see save chances for Chicago until Hendriks returns to the bullpen.
