  • Jordan Montgomery Removed From Saturday's Start

St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Jordan Montgomery (leg) was removed from Saturday's game against the New York Yankees before the sixth inning due to leg cramps. He made his Cardinals debut Saturday against his former team and pitched well before exiting. The 29-year-old allowed two hits and one walk while striking out one across five scoreless innings. Montgomery owns a 3.53 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, and 98 strikeouts across 119 2/3 innings in 2022. The Cardinals removed the southpaw for precautionary reasons. He is considered day-to-day and is tentatively lined up to start against the Milwaukee Brewers in next weekend's series.

  • Ryan Helsley Reaches 10 Saves

St. Louis Cardinals relief pitcher Ryan Helsley saved his 10th game of the year Friday night, shutting down the New York Yankees to secure a 4-3 victory. He allowed no hits and one walk and did not strike out a batter. Helsley is having a charmed season, recording a 0.61 ERA and 0.63 WHIP with 66 strikeouts in 44 1/3 innings. He has allowed an earned run in only two of his 36 appearances all year. Fantasy managers who picked him up off the waiver wire early this season have been handsomely rewarded.

  • Cardinals Claim Kramer Robertson

The Cardinals announced Friday that they’ve claimed infielder Kramer Robertson off waivers from the Mets, who’d designated him for assignment earlier in the week. • Jack Flaherty Could Return In Late August

St. Louis Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said that right-hander Jack Flaherty (shoulder) will rejoin the team in St. Louis on Saturday. After he throws a bullpen session, the Cardinals will determine when and where Flaherty will head out on a minor league rehab assignment. There is hope from the team that he can return to the starting rotation by late August or early September. The 26-year-old landed on the injured list on June 27 with a strained right shoulder, and he could return when first eligible in the last week of August, barring any setbacks on his rehab assignment. Flaherty has made only three starts for the Red Birds due to injury, and he allowed five earned runs while striking out six and walking nine in eight innings, but he's worth stashing right now in fantasy leagues if you're in need of starting pitching down the stretch.

  • Drew VerHagen To Have Season-Ending Hip Surgery

St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Drew VerHagen (hip) will have season-ending hip surgery shortly, according to a team official. VerHagen injured his hip in April and won't make it back for the rest of the 2022 season. The 31-year-old had signed a two-year, $5.5 million deal with St. Louis in free agency. He'll end the season with just 21 2/3 innings under his belt in 19 relief outings, posting a 6.65 ERA, 1.89 WHIP, 18 strikeouts and 14 walks for the Red Birds. VerHagen wasn't on the fantasy radar to begin with.

  • Wednesday's Cubs-Cardinals Game Postponed

The game between the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday has officially been postponed due to inclement weather. The contest will be made up on Thursday as part of a split doubleheader. Wednesday's scheduled starters -- lefty Justin Steele for the Cubs and right-hander Miles Mikolas for St. Louis -- will presumably be pushed to one of Thursday's games. Fantasy managers need to make sure to remove any players from these two teams from their starting lineups on Wednesday.

  • Tyler O'Neill Returns To The Lineup Wednesday

St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Tyler O'Neill (leg) is back in left field and is hitting fifth on Wednesday against Chicago Cubs left-hander Justin Steele. O'Neill will return to action after missing the last two games due to a leg cramp. Since the All-Star break, he's really struggled at the dish, going 5-for-26 (.192) with a homer, five RBI, six runs scored and eight strikeouts in 30 plate appearances over seven games. The 27-year-old has been a big disappointment for fantasy managers this year after he hit .286 with a .912 OPS, 34 home runs, 80 RBI and 15 steals in 138 games in 2021. This year, O'Neill is slashing .233/.298/.351 with five long balls, 33 RBI, 29 runs scored and eight stolen bases in 55 games played.

  • Tyler O'Neill Remains Out Of The Lineup Against The Cubs

St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Tyler O'Neill (leg) is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Chicago Cubs. He left Saturday's game early with leg cramps and has been absent from the lineup since. The 27-year-old remains day-to-day. O'Neill is slashing .233/.298/.351 with five home runs, 33 RBI, 29 runs scored, and eight stolen bases in 55 games. Lars Nootbaar is batting sixth and will handle right field duties while O'Neill is sidelined. Nootbaar has collected a hit in four of his last five games and can be used as a streamer in deep-league formats while swinging a hot bat.

  • Harrison Bader Headed To Yankees

St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Harrison Bader has been traded to the New York Yankees. In exchange, the Cardinals will receive left-handed starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery. This is a trade that helps both parties right now as they continue to compete for playoff position. Bader is hitting .256/.303//.370 with five home runs and 15 steals in 72 games with St. Louis. It's uncertain if he'll get everyday at-bats in New York, but he should be able to continue producing fantasy value. There's a chance that his fantasy value actually increases in the Yankees hitter-friendly park, but that depends on playing time.

  • Jordan Montgomery Traded To Cardinals

New York Yankees starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery has been traded to the St. Louis Cardinals. In exchange, the Yankees will receive right-handed outfielder Harrison Bader for Monty. This is one of those rare trades that helps both contending organizations right now. Montgomery holds a 3.69 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, and 97 strikeouts through 21 starts. The lefty starter should be a nice addition to the Cardinals rotation. He won't be an ace, but his fantasy value should stay strong pitching in St. Louis.

  • Cardinals Acquire Chris Stratton

The St. Louis Cardinals acquired right-hander Chris Stratton and left-hander Jose Quintana from the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday night in exchange for right-hander Johan Oviedo and minor league infielder Malcom Nunez. The main piece of this trade was the veteran Quintana going to St. Louis to bolster their banged-up rotation as they make a run for a playoff spot. Stratton has had a rough year in Pittsburgh with a 5.09 ERA, 1.55 WHIP, two saves, 37 strikeouts and 13 walks in 40 2/3 innings over 40 appearances (one start). The 31-year-old should give St. Louis some more bullpen depth the rest of the way in 2022.

  • Cards Won't Do Dylan Carlson, Top Prospects For Juan Soto

According to a report from MLB Network's Jon Morosi, the St. Louis Cardinals are not willing to include both Dylan Carlson and their top prospects in a package for Washington Nationals outfielder Juan Soto. Soto has been a hot name with the MLB trade deadline coming up on Tuesday, August 2, but it appears that the Cardinals might not be willing to put together the type of package that it will take to acquire Soto. Negotiations for Soto are "reaching a critical point" according to Morosi.

  • Tyler O'Neill Not Starting Against Nationals

St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Tyler O'Neill (leg) is not in the starting lineup on Sunday against the Washington Nationals. O'Neill left Saturday's game early with leg cramps, which is why he's out of the lineup for the series finale. For now, fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day. Injuries have limited the 27-year-old to just 55 games, and he's hitting .233/.298/.351 with five home runs, 33 RBI, 29 runs scored and eight stolen bases in 228 plate appearances. Corey Dickerson will get the start in left field and will bat eighth on Sunday against Nationals right-hander Josiah Gray. The veteran Dickerson is hitting only .209 (27-for-129) on the season with three home runs and 16 RBI, so he'll be a low-upside DFS option.

  • Tyler O'Neill Leaves With Leg Cramps

St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Tyler O'Neill left Saturday's contest early with leg cramps after going 2-for-2 in the game. Corey Dickerson came on to relieve him for his at-bat in the fifth inning, and he should be considered day-to-day for now. It's been a frustrating year for O'Neill who has played just 54 games while batting .225 with five homers and eight steals after a breakout 2021 campaign. The initial reaction is that this seems like a minor ailment, but don't be surprised if he were to sit out Sunday's finale with a scheduled off-day on Monday. Stay tuned for news from the club prior to Sunday afternoon's tilt with Washington.

St. Louis will be in the market to add another arm by the MLB trade deadline. "There might be some opportunities out there that might not be top of the rotation but can fill innings," said Cardinals baseball operations president John Mozeliak. • Yadier Molina Starting Rehab Assignment Thursday

St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina (knee) will begin his minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Memphis on Thursday. He will bat third and serve as the designated hitter. The 40-year-old hasn't played since June 15 in what is expected to be his final big-league season in a storied career. Molina is just a shell of his former self offensively, as he's hit just .213/.225/.294 with two home runs, 10 RBI, 10 runs scored and one stolen base in 136 at-bats in 2022. When he returns, he will continue to split time with Andrew Knizner.

  • Moises Gomez Displaying Power In Minor Leagues

St. Louis Cardinals outfield prospect Moises Gomez went 1-for-5 with a home run for Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday. The homer was his 29th of the season between Double-A and Triple-A this year and that leads all of minor league baseball up to this point. The 23-year-old opened the season in Double-A and hit .321 with 23 homers and 54 RBI in 60 games. Since his promotion to Triple-A, Gomez has hit .278 with six homers and 16 RBI in 20 games. The slugger's biggest issue thus far in his career has been plate discipline, but he has his seen his strikeout rate drop in 2022. The power is there, but Gomez will have to improve his strikeout rate to make an impact in the big leagues. For now, Gomez is only worth monitoring in dynasty league with the Cardinals having one of the deeper outfield systems in the game,

Overall, Carlson is slashing .259/.328/.421 with six home runs, 28 RBI, 36 runs, and four stolen bases over 79 games.
