  • Phillies Release Odubel Herrera, Jeurys Familia

The Phillies have released outfielder Odubel Herrera and right-hander Jeurys Familia.  Righty Ryan Sherriff has also been outrighted to Triple-A.  All three players were designated for assignment earlier this week. This is the second time within the last year that the Phils have officially parted ways with Herrera, as they declined their $11.5MM club option…

  • Bryce Harper Hopes To Return In September

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Bryce Harper (elbow, thumb) gave a loose timetable for his return on Thursday. "We're still on the same timeline of September-ish and come back when I'm ready and able to come back," Harper said. It's not much of an update, but before Thursday, he had refused to put any sort of potential timetable on his return from a fractured thumb that required surgery in late June. The 29-year-old had the pins removed from his left thumb on Monday and will begin ramping up his baseball activities. Harper will likely need to go on a minor league rehab assignment at some point as well, so fantasy managers need to remain patient. He's been great when on the field in 2022, hitting .318/.385/.599 with a .985 OPS, 15 home runs, 48 RBI, 49 runs scored and nine stolen bases in 242 at-bats.

  • Phillies Reinstate Jean Segura, Release Didi Gregorius

The Philadelphia Phillies reinstated second baseman Jean Segura (finger) from the 60-day injured list. In corresponding moves, the team activated right-hander Kyle Gibson from the bereavement list and released shortstop Didi Gregorius. Segura is back at the keystone and is hitting seventh on Thursday against Washington Nationals right-hander Paolo Espino, so fantasy managers need to get him back into their starting lineups in single-year formats. Segura has been out for two months after having surgery to fix a fractured right index finger. The 32-year-old should return to regular starting duties at second base. Gregorius got the axe after hitting only .210 with one homer in 214 at-bats. Rookie Bryson Stott should take over as the everyday shortstop now that Segura is back.

  • David Robertson Records Save On Wednesday

Philadelphia Phillies relief pitcher David Robertson was asked to take the ball in the ninth inning on Wednesday. The veteran right-hander was acquired by the Phillies through a trade with the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday. Manager Rob Thompson mentioned that Robertson might not get save chances right away in Philly. Well, that was not the case as Robertson came out for the save during Wednesday's contest. He struck out two batters and earned himself his 15th save of the season. The expectation is that Robertson will continue to get save chances in Philly going forward.

  • Noah Syndergaard Will Make Phillies Debut Thursday

Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Noah Syndergaard will reportedly make his first start for the club on Thursday against the Washington Nationals per a tweet from MLB.com's Todd Zolecki. Acquired from the Los Angeles Angels at the trade deadline, Syndergaard has made 18 starts this season. In those 18 starts he's thrown 80 innings and has pitched to a 3.83 ERA and a 3.95 FIP while registering 64 strikeouts and 22 walks. Fantasy managers will certainly want to keep him in their lineups against a Nationals club that just traded away Juan Soto and Josh Bell.

  • Phillies Hope Jean Segura Will Return Thursday

The Philadelphia Phillies remain hopeful that second baseman Jean Segura (finger) will return from the 60-day injured list on Thursday. Interim manager Rob Thomson said Segura might hit lower in the lineup upon his return. He's been out since May 31 with a broken right index finger, but fantasy managers should be getting him back this week. The 32-year-old middle infielder went 1-for-4 with an RBI, a stolen base and a walk in a minor league rehab game for Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday, and he looks set to return to the big-league lineup. He should return to his starting role at the keystone for the Phillies and needs to be rostered in all fantasy leagues. Before his injury, Segura was hitting .275/.324/.407 with six home runs, 19 RBI, 22 runs scored and nine stolen bases in 167 at-bats.

  • Bryce Harper Resumes Throwing Program

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Bryce Harper (elbow, thumb), who had the pins removed from his surgically repaired left thumb on Monday, has begun a throwing program, interim manager Rob Thomson said on Wednesday. Harper is not only attempting to return again this season, but also perhaps play right field. Thomson said Harper has taken swings without hitting a ball, has done a few swings off a tee and played light catch from around 55 to 60 feet. Harper was relegated to a full-time designated hitter role in mid-April until he broke his thumb on June 25. Fantasy managers could care less if Harper returns to right field, but he needs to remain stashed in all fantasy leagues. Despite his elbow injury, Harper was hitting a cool .318/.385/.599 with a .985 OPS, 15 home runs, 48 RBI, 49 runs scored and nine stolen bases before breaking his thumb.

  • Brandon Marsh Heads To The Phillies

The Philadelphia Phillies acquired outfielder Brandon Marsh from the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday, according to sources. It's currently unknown what the Phillies sent to the Angels in return. Marsh was once a top prospect coming through the farm system for the Angels, but he's struggled to the tune of a .239/.299/.354 slash line with 10 home runs, 56 RBI, 61 runs scored and 14 stolen bases in two seasons in the big leagues in 163 games played. This year, he's gone 66-for-292 (.226) with eight homers, 37 RBI, 34 runs scored and eight stolen bases and a 36.2% strikeout rate in 93 games. The 24-year-old is a buy-low MLB player for the Phillies, and he should at least see the strong side of a platoon in center field in Philadelphia.

  • Phillies Acquire David Robertson From Cubs

The Philadelphia Phillies acquired right-handed reliever David Robertson from the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday, according to sources. It's unclear who the Phillies will send to the Cubs in return, but Robertson will be returning to the Phil after spending the 2019 season with them. The 37-year-old was the Cubbies closer before the trade, posting a strong 2.23 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 14 saves and 51 strikeouts in his 40 1/3 innings of work. In Philadelphia, Seranthony Dominguez and lefty Brad Hand have been sharing closing duties, but it remains to be seen if Robertson will be given the majority of save chances in his new home or if he'll be part of an ongoing committee for saves. His fantasy outlook for the rest of the season could receive a boost on a contending team.

  • Zach Eflin Moved To 60-Day Injured List

The Philadelphia Phillies moved starting pitcher Zach Eflin (knee) to the 60-day injured list on Tuesday and claimed left-hander Andrew Vasquez off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays in a corresponding move. Vasquez was then optioned to Triple-A. Eflin won't be able to return to the Phillies starting rotation until the final week of August now. The 28-year-old right-hander had a 4.37 ERA (3.84 FIP), a 1.19 WHIP, 56 strikeouts and 15 walks in 68 innings over his 13 starts before getting injured in June. When healthy, Eflin doesn't have a ton of fantasy upside given his career 19.6% strikeout rate, but he'll slot back into the back end of Philadelphia's rotation when he's ready.

  • Phillies Interested In Carlos Rodon

  • Bryce Harper Has Pins Removed From Thumb

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Bryce Harper (thumb) had the pins removed from his thumb on Monday and will now be ready to begin to ramp up activities in the near future. Harper has been on the injured list since fracturing his thumb near the end of June when he was hit by a pitch. He is still likely several weeks away from being able to return to the Phillies, but the pins coming out on Monday are at least a step in the right direction. Harper is hitting .318 with 15 homers, 49 runs, 48 RBI, and nine steals in 2022.

Veteran starter Kyle Gibson was placed on the bereavement list on Saturday and Appel was recalled in a corresponding move. Appel, the former first overall pick way back in 2013, made his major league debut earlier this season and should work out of the Phillies pen this time around. He's got a 1.29 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and 3:2 K/BB ratio over seven innings of relief so far on the season.

  • Kyle Gibson Placed On The Bereavement List

  • Rhys Hoskins Goes 4-For-4, Hits Game-Winning Homer

Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins had a night on Friday in the 4-2 extra-inning win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Hoskins went 4-for-4 with a game-winning home run in the 10th inning, and he added three RBI, a run scored and a walk. The 29-year-old first baseman is now hitting .253/.342/.481 with an .823 OPS, 20 home runs, 48 RBI, 53 runs scored and a stolen base in 421 plate appearances over 99 games this season. Since the All-Star break, he's gone 11-for-32 (.344) with a homer, four RBI and four runs scored in eight games played. Hoskins is certainly heating up and needs to remain in all daily fantasy lineups moving forward.

  • Connor Brogdon Gets First Save Of The Season

Philadelphia Phillies relief pitcher Connor Brogdon was asked to take the ball during the 10th inning of Friday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Phillies didn't have too many options left with Seranthony Dominguez, Brad Hand, and Jose Alvarado being used already in this contest. That being said, Brogdon was given the chance to close out the game with a two-run lead. He did a fine job, allowing no hits and striking out one batter in the win. It was his first save of the season, but it's surprising he hasn't been given more chances with how well he has pitched this season. The right-hander currently holds a 2.05 ERA through 24 appearances. Possibly, Brogdon gets more high leverage spots down the road, but he can continue to be ignored in most fantasy formats right now.

  • Darick Hall Triples On Thursday

Philadelphia Phillies first baseman/designated hitter Darick Hall went 1-for-5 in Thursday's 8-7 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. His lone hit was a triple, and he scored and had two RBI. Hall has had good results to start his career, slashing .256/.282/.537 with five home runs, 14 runs, and 11 RBI across 22 games. Although, the rookie is striking out 30.6% of the time and has posted just a 3.5% walk rate. The 27-year-old should continue to play every day if he keeps hitting, but he won't be relevant in every league until there's a larger sample size.

  • Nick Castellanos Compiles Three Hits On Thursday

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Nick Castellanos helped the team defeat the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-7 on Thursday. He went 3-for-5 with three singles, an RBI and a run scored in the contest. Despite Thursday's three-hit effort, the 30-year-old has continued to have an underwhelming season from both a real life and fantasy standpoint. He's slashing just .251/.295/.368 on the season. Additionally, he has been in the midst of an extensive home run drought. He hasn't homered since June 30 and has a total of just eight homers on the season.

  • Seranthony Dominguez Records The Save Thursday

Philadelphia Phillies reliever Seranthony Dominguez picked up the save on Thursday after pitching two-thirds of an inning in the ninth. The right-hander is having an impressive season, posting a 1.72 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 31.4% strikeout rate. The save was the sixth for Dominguez, all coming after June 17, making him the presumable closer. He should be rostered in every league and could finish the year as the club's closer if they don't upgrade at the trade deadline.

  • Zack Wheeler Earns His Ninth Win On Thursday

Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Zack Wheeler had a solid outing against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday. This was his fifth quality start over his last six outings. He posted a stellar 2.48 ERA across his five starts in July. Garrett Stubbs will be handling catching duties for the game. This will be Realmuto's second day off over the team's last five games. The 31-year-old has been having his best month at the plate in July. He owns a month-long slash line of .339/.391/.607 to go along with four home runs, three stolen bases, 15 RBI and seven runs. Expect to see him back behind the plate on Friday.

  • Alec Bohm Hitting Third For Phillies Thursday

This will be the first time he's hit third in the lineup since his rookie year in 2020. In the month of July, the 25-year-old is hitting .439 (25-for-57) with two home runs, 12 RBI and 11 runs scored in 16 games played. • Jean Segura To Begin Rehab Assignment Tuesday

Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Jean Segura (finger) will begin a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday night, according to interim manager Rob Thomson. Segura underwent surgery to fix a fractured right index finger in early June, and it sounds as if he's nearing a return to the majors. He'll be eligible to return from the injured list on Aug. 2, and as long as he doesn't have a setback in the minors, he could return when eligible. Before breaking his finger, the 32-year-old veteran Dominican was slashing .275/.324/.407 with six home runs, 19 RBI, 22 runs scored and eight stolen bases in 179 plate appearances over 44 games, making him valuable in all fantasy formats.

  • Bryce Harper Not Ready To Have Pins Removed

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Bryce Harper (thumb) didn't have the pins removed from his fractured left thumb on Monday, but that could happen next week. He hasn't suffered a setback of any sort, but he just isn't quite ready to have his pins removed. Harper will meet with his surgeon again next Monday and will hopefully be cleared to have his pins removed. The 29-year-old slugger will still have at least several weeks before he might come off the injured list after he has his pins removed, so fantasy managers must remain patient and keep him stashed in fantasy. Last year's National League MVP had also been playing through a right elbow injury, but it hadn't slowed down his production at the plate, as he was hitting .318/.385/.599 with a .985 OPS, 15 home runs, 48 RBI, 49 runs scored and nine stolen bases at the time of his injury.

  • Didi Gregorius On The Bench Monday

Instead, Bryson Stott will move over from second base and start at shortstop with Yairo Munoz entering the lineup and getting the nod at second. The 27-year-old is batting seventh against Atlanta on Monday. For the season, Munoz is hitting .209 with a .261 on-base percentage, three home runs, and a stolen base in 46 plate appearances. Fantasy managers in search of streaming help are probably better off looking elsewhere.
