  • Jesus Luzardo Could Return By End Of The Month

Oakland Athletics starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo (hand) could return to the team by the end of the month, according to Shayna Rubin of the Mercury News. Luzardo was placed on the injured list on Sunday after he fractured his pinky finger by hitting it on a desk while playing video games. Rubin reports that Luzardo is being considered week-to-week at the moment, and he recently played catch at 60 feet. He will undergo another X-ray at the end of the week, and if the results come back positive he could begin throwing off the mound afterwards. Through six starts this season, Luzardo is 1-3 with a 5.79 ERA and 23.6 percent strikeout rate in 28 innings of work.

  • Jesus Luzardo Lands On IL With Fractured Finger

Oakland Athletics starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo (finger) has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a hairline fracture in his left pinky finger, according to Alex Coffey of The Athletic. Manager Bob Melvin said that Luzardo had injured his hand when he "accidentally bumped his hand on the desk" while playing a video game on Saturday. Luzardo was examined by trainers prior to the game, and after warming up Luzardo and the trainers decided he was fine to pitch. He threw three innings against the Orioles, allowing six runs three earned and then after the game an x-ray showed the fracture on his finger. There's no word yet as to how long he will be out with this injury.

  • Jesus Luzardo Hit Hard By Orioles On Saturday

Oakland Athletics starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo lasted only three innings in a home start against the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday. Platinum glove winner Matt Chapman made an uncharacteristic error which led to three unearned runs, but Luzardo was not sharp in this outing. The 23-year-old finished the day allowing six runs (three ER), on five hits and two walks with only one strikeout. Luzardo was a borderline top-100 pick in fantasy drafts, but is simply not getting it done this season. Despite some ugly numbers like his 5.79 ERA, Luzardo is still generating a solid swinging-strike rate and has an xERA of just 3.78. His upside is too high to drop him, but it's hard to trust the lefty in lineups right now. He'll face a challenging Blue Jays lineup at home in his next start.
