  • Clay Holmes Blows Another Save

New York Yankees relief pitcher Clay Holmes had another rough outing Friday night, allowing two runs on two hits and a walk in an inning of work, blowing his fourth save of the year and earning his third loss in the process. Holmes struck out two batters. He still has a very strong 2.12 ERA and 0.96 WHIP on the year, but patience could run out quickly if Holmes doesn't right the ship in short order. Aroldis Chapman is lurking as another option to close out games, but fantasy managers should hold onto Holmes for the time being.

  • Anthony Rizzo Dealing With Back Soreness

New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo was scratched from the lineup with lower back soreness ahead of his team's game against the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday. Rizzo was replaced at first base by norma second baseman D.J. LeMahieu. The veteran first baseman has had back issues flare up on him previously this season, most recently forcing him to take a four-game break spanning July 5 through July 8. Rizzo should be considered day-to-day for now, at least until the Yankees give an update on his status. The former Cub is hitting .227 with 27 homers, 64 runs, 66 RBI, and six steals in 2022.

  • Frankie Montas Goes On Bereavement List

The New York Yankees placed new starting pitcher Frankie Montas on the bereavement list on Wednesday due to a death in his family. The Yankees acquired Montas from the Oakland Athletics on Monday, and he has yet to appear in a game in pinstripes. The 29-year-old right-hander was one of the biggest names on the trade market this year behind Luis Castillo, and he'll certainly make New York's rotation stronger down the stretch. Montas will be away from the team for a few days before rejoining them this weekend for a series against the St. Louis Cardinals. However, it remains to be seen if he'll actually make his debut for the Yankees against the Cardinals. Stay tuned.

  • Aaron Judge Resting On Wednesday

New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge is not in the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Seattle Mariners. It looks to be a normal day off for the clear leader of the American League MVP race this season. Make sure to move Judge to your benches on Wednesday. With Judge getting a breather, Matt Carpenter will move into right field and hit third in the batting order against Mariners right-hander Luis Castillo. Carpenter will be a popular DFS play in the three-hole for the Yanks, as he's hitting .321/.433/.795 with a 1.227 OPS, 15 home runs, 36 RBI and 28 runs scored in 112 at-bats for the Yankees this year.

  • Harrison Bader Headed To Yankees

St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Harrison Bader has been traded to the New York Yankees. In exchange, the Cardinals will receive left-handed starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery. This is a trade that helps both parties right now as they continue to compete for playoff position. Bader is hitting .256/.303//.370 with five home runs and 15 steals in 72 games with St. Louis. It's uncertain if he'll get everyday at-bats in New York, but he should be able to continue producing fantasy value. There's a chance that his fantasy value actually increases in the Yankees hitter-friendly park, but that depends on playing time.

  • Jordan Montgomery Traded To Cardinals

New York Yankees starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery has been traded to the St. Louis Cardinals. In exchange, the Yankees will receive right-handed outfielder Harrison Bader for Monty. This is one of those rare trades that helps both contending organizations right now. Montgomery holds a 3.69 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, and 97 strikeouts through 21 starts. The lefty starter should be a nice addition to the Cardinals rotation. He won't be an ace, but his fantasy value should stay strong pitching in St. Louis.

  • Yankees Checked In On Carlos Rodon

The New York Yankees checked in at some point on San Francisco Giants left-hander Carlos Rodon, but it seems like a long shot. Rodon is clearly available at Tuesday's trade deadline, and he's also been linked to the Philadelphia Phillies and Minnesota Twins. The Giants got off to a rough start to open the second half of the season, but it will be interesting to see if they classify themselves as buyers or sellers at Tuesday's deadline. Rodon spun seven scoreless innings while striking out 10 Chicago Cubs hitters in his last outing on Sunday night, and he earned his second straight All-Star nod this year. He's currently 9-6 with a 3.00 ERA, a 1.07 WHIP and a 158:39 K:BB in 123 innings over 21 innings pitched.

  • Joey Gallo Traded To Dodgers

According to a tweet from Sports Illustrated's Pat Ragazzo on Tuesday, the Los Angeles Dodgers acquired outfielder Joey Gallo from the New York Yankees for minor league pitcher Clayton Beeter. The outfielder is batting .159 with a .282 on-base percentage, 12 home runs and two stolen bases in 273 plate appearances this season. He'll give the Dodgers another power option in the outfield, but as was the case in New York, he might not see much playing time, especially if he continues to strike out in bunches. Currently, Los Angeles' outfield options on the active roster include Mookie Betts, Cody Bellinger, Trayce Thompson, and James Outman.

  • Yankees Reportedly Inquired On Brett Phillips

According to a tweet from NJ.com's Brendan Kuty on Monday, the New York Yankees "are among the teams who have inquired on outfielder Brett Phillips, who the Tampa Bay Rays designated for assignment on Tuesday. The Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Phillies are in the mix, too. Phillips previously appeared in 75 games for the Rays this season, batting .147 with a .225 on-base percentage, five home runs and seven stolen bases in 208 plate appearances. New York's current outfield options on the 40-man roster include Aaron Judge, Aaron Hicks, Joey Gallo, Andrew Benintendi, Miguel Andujar, Tim Locastro, Estevan Florialand Everson Pereira.

  • Joey Gallo Expected To Be Traded

The New York Yankees are getting interest in outfielder Joey Gallo, according to sources, and it would be something of a surprise if he wasn't traded by Tuesday's 6:00 pm ET deadline. Gallo has really struggled in his second year in the Bronx, so interested teams may be able to land him for pennies on the dollar. The 28-year-old left-handed slugger has cratered to the tune of a .159/.282/.339 slash line, 12 home runs, 24 RBI, 32 runs scored and two stolen bases in 273 plate appearances over 82 games. A change of scenery could get him going again, and it appears that the two-time All-Star will be on the move this summer.

  • Luis Severino Moved To 60-Day Injured List

New York Yankees right-hander Luis Severino (lat) was transferred to the 60-day injured list on Monday. Severino was shut down about two weeks ago with a right lat strain and will now not be eligible to return to the roster until mid-September. The 28-year-old hurler has made 16 starts for the Yankees in 2022, posting a 5-3 record, 3.45 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, and 95 strikeouts over 86 innings of work. Severino threw from flat ground earlier in the day on Monday and the session reportedly went well, at least according to manager Aaron Boone. It is unclear whether he suffered a setback during the session or if the Yankees just want to take it slow with Severino, who had Tommy John surgery back in 2020.

  • A's Acquire Prospects Ken Waldichuk, Luis Medina

The Oakland Athletics acquired left-hander Ken Waldichuk, right-hander Luis Medina, left-hander JP Sears and second baseman Cooper Bowman from the New York Yankees on Monday in exchange for starting pitcher Frankie Montas and reliever Lou Trivino, according to a source. It's a nice prospect haul for the A's, as MLB Pipeline had Waldichuk ranked as the Yankees' No. 5 prospect, with Medina at No. 10, Sears at No. 20 and Bowman at No. 21. Waldichuk stands at 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds and has a 3.59 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 70 strikeouts in 47 2/3 innings over 11 starts at Triple-A in 2022. Medina has elite raw stuff on the mound, but his command has been lacking, and he's likely to surface as a reliever in the big leagues. Sears is more of a control artist and has a 2.05 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 15 K's in 22 innings in the majors this year. Bowman is best known for his speed.

  • Yankees Acquire Scott Effross

The New York Yankees announced in a tweet on Monday that the team acquired right-handed relief pitcher Scott Effross from the Chicago Cubs. The Yankees are sending pitching prospect Hayden Wesneski back to the Cubs. Effross has been nothing but effective so far for Chicago, logging a 2.66 ERA, a 2.19 FIP, 50 strikeouts, and 11 walks in 44 innings of work. He's also registered 13 holds and a save. The right-hander will provide the Yankees with some additional bullpen reinforcements . He'll join a late-inning mix that also includes Clay Holmes, Lucas Luetge, Wandy Peralta, and Aroldis Chapman.

  • Clay Holmes Suffers Blown Save On Sunday

New York Yankees relief pitcher Clay Holmes had a disastrous outing against the Kansas City Royals on Sunday. The right-hander allowed a three-run homer in the ninth inning, which was only the second time he has been scored on this month. This counts as his third blown save of the season as his command continues to escape him. It's unlikely that the Yankees are going to pull him from the closer job. Fantasy managers should expect Holmes to bounce back from this. He might get a day or two off, but should remain as the closer in New York.

  • Brewers Have Discussed Joey Gallo

The New York Yankees and Milwaukee Brewers have discussed outfielder Joey Gallo, who may fit Milwaukee much better than New York City. The Brewers were in on outfielder Andrew Benintendi before the Royals dealt him to the Yankees, and they could use another outfielder. USA TODAY's Bob Nightengale mentioned the Minnesota Twins and Tampa Bay Rays as other possibilities to trade for Gallo before Tuesday's deadline. The 28-year-old left-handed slugger has been an absolute failure in his second season in the Bronx, hitting .159/.282/.339 with 12 home runs, 24 RBI, 32 runs scored, two stolen bases and 106 strikeouts in 273 plate appearances, but perhaps a change of scenery would get him going again.

  • Giancarlo Stanton To Resume Baseball Activities This Week

New York Yankees skipper Aaron Boone said that outfielder Giancarlo Stanton (Achilles) should be cleared to start baseball activities "early this week." Stanton was placed on the injured list on July 26, but it doesn't look like he'll be ready to return to the team when he's eligible on Wednesday, Aug. 3. The 32-year-old slugger is dealing with left Achilles tendinitis, but he needs to remain stashed in all fantasy formats while he heals up. He's hitting just .228 on the season with a .309 on-base percentage, but he also has an .807 OPS, 24 home runs, 61 RBI and 40 runs scored in 289 at-bats for the Yanks.

  • Aaron Judge Hits Two More Homers Friday

New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge went 3-for-5 with two more home runs (including a grand slam), six RBI, two runs scored and a strikeout in the team's 11-5 blowout win over the Kansas City Royals on Friday. Judge is having an absolute monster season, and he's gone deep eight times in the first nine games of the second half of the season to boost his overall line to .297/.378/.668 with a 1.046 OPS, a league-leading 41 homers, a league-leading 89 RBI, a league-leading 84 runs scored and 10 stolen bases in 431 plate appearances over 98 games played. The 30-year-old slugger is the clear leader in the American League MVP race and he should be started each and every day in fantasy lineups.

  • Anthony Rizzo Sitting Out Saturday

New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo is not in the starting lineup on Saturday against the Kansas City Royals. Rizzo will take a seat after starting the last seven games for the Yankees. He's hitting only .225 on the year, but he has a .345 on-base percentage, 24 home runs, 59 RBI, 60 runs scored and six stolen bases in 333 at-bats to make him a must-start in fantasy. DJ LeMahieu is starting at first base and is hitting leadoff on Saturday against Royals right-hander Jonathan Heasley. Over the last two weeks, LeMahieu has gone 12-for-36 (.333) with a homer, four RBI and 11 runs scored in 10 games, so he's definitely worth considering in DFS on Saturday.

  • Yankees Could Trade Joey Gallo To Small-Market Team

New York Yankees outfielder Joey Gallo is likely to be on the move within the next few days. The front office is looking to trade Gallo who has heavily struggled this season. At first, the Yankees were talking to teams such as the San Diego Padres and Texas Rangers. Now, they've decided to target smaller market teams such as the Brewers or Rays. It's going to be a tough challenge for the Yankees to move a guy hitting less than .160 on the season. The hope is that Gallo would play better in an environment with less pressure such as Tampa Bay or Milwaukee. That could be true, but first the Yankees need to find a team that actually is willing to take Gallo.

  • DJ LeMahieu Sitting Against Royals On Thursday

New York Yankees infielder DJ LeMahieu is not in the starting lineup for Thursday's game against the Kansas City Royals. Newly-acquired outfielder Andrew Benintendi will be hitting leadoff for the game. LeMahieu has been the team's primary leadoff hitter this year. He hasn't done much to lose that highly-coveted batting order spot as he's slashed .281/.386/.408 over 90 games this season. The Yankees are likely to do some tinkering with their lineup in the coming weeks now that Benintendi is in town. LeMahieu should continue to have a prime batting position more often than not even if he frequently winds up out of the leadoff spot.

  • Andrew Benintendi Hitting Leadoff In Yankees Debut

New York Yankees outfielder Andrew Benintendi is starting in left field and is hitting leadoff on Thursday in his debut with the team against his former team, the Kansas City Royals, and right-hander Brady Singer. The Yanks landed Benintendi from the Royals on Wednesday night in exchange for minor league pitchers T.J. Sikkema, Beck Way and Chandler Champlain. The 28-year-old has hit .320/.387/.398, but fantasy managers would like some more power (only three home runs in 347 at-bats). The power and counting stats should improve the rest of the way in 2022 in a much stronger Yankees lineup, especially in the Bronx with the short porch in right field.

  • Yankees Struggling To Move Joey Gallo

New York Yankees outfielder Joey Gallo will likely be wearing a new jersey at this time next week -- so long as the team can find a suitor for him. According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Yankees are actively shopping Gallo, but they are having trouble finding a trade partner who will agree to send back the "type of prospect they seek." Heyman stated that both the San Diego Padres and Texas Rangers have expressed interest in Gallo, but both are -- understandably -- much more engaged in Juan Soto trade talks at the moment. It's been a nightmare season for Gallo thus far. Across 80 games, he's slashed just .161/.285/.343 with 12 home runs.
