  • Angels Acquire Touki Toussaint

Atlanta Braves pitcher Touki Toussaint was designated for assignment on Saturday. It didn't take long for another organization to show interest in the right-hander. The Los Angeles Angels have acquired Toussaint from the Braves in exchange for cash considerations. This is a solid low-risk move for the Angels as the 26-year-old was a top prospect a few years ago. This season, Toussaint has struggled in the minor leagues with the Braves. He's posting a 6.26 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and 53/25 K/BB ratio over 41 2/3 innings at Triple-A Gwinnett. Right now, this move shouldn't concern fantasy managers. However, this could end up being a nice move for the Angels down the road.

  • Braves Trade Touki Toussaint To Angels For Cash Considerations

The Braves have traded right-hander Touki Toussaint to the Angels for cash considerations, the Angels announced. To make room on the active roster, Jack Mayfield was designated for assignment. The Braves had to make a move with Toussaint, whom they recently designated for assignment. Atlanta had high hopes for Toussaint, but things did not break…

  • Jared Walsh Retreats To The Bench Sunday

Los Angeles Angels first baseman Jared Walsh is absent from the starting lineup for Sunday's game against left-hander Framber Valdez on Sunday. David MacKinnon will be covering first base and batting eighth in the game. The left-handed Walsh has hit a respectable .257/.288/.400 against lefties this year, which has allowed him to remain in the lineup against most southpaws. He struggled immensely over the first two games of this weekend's series, going 0-for-7 with five strikeouts, so Sunday's off day could be a good opportunity for him to reset.

  • Jonathan Villar Hitting Leadoff Against Houston

Los Angeles Angels infielder Jonathan Villar is starting at second base and is hitting in the leadoff spot in his debut with the team on Sunday against the Houston Astros. Villar signed with the Angels on Friday after hitting .222/.271/.327 with two home runs, 15 RBI, 19 runs scored and six stolen bases in 166 plate appearances and 46 games for the Chicago Cubs. The Angels are hoping that the 31-year-old veteran can give them some kind of spark atop the lineup in front of superstar Mike Trout. Villar is no longer in the prime of his career, but he's still worth a roster spot in deep mixed and AL-only leagues for his speed.

  • Angels Select Michael Stefanic, Designate Tyler Wade For Assignment

The Angels announced that they have selected the contract of infielder Michael Stefanic. Infielder Tyler Wade has been designated for assignment as the corresponding move. Stefanic, 26, was signed by the Angels as an undrafted free agent back in 2018. Since then, he has worked his way up the minor league ladder, garnering attention for his contact…

  • Raisel Iglesias Serving Suspension Sunday

Los Angeles Angels closer Raisel Iglesias had his suspension reduced to one game, and he'll serve it on Sunday against the Houston Astros. Iglesias was suspended for his outburst during the team's benches-clearing brawl against the Seattle Mariners last week, in which he got heated and threw sunflower seeds onto the field. The 32-year-old right-hander hasn't allowed a run since June 12 and has recorded saves in two of his last three appearances. On Saturday night, he tossed a scoreless inning while striking out two in a non-save situation in a 9-1 loss. If a save situation arises on Sunday, either Ryan Tepera or Aaron Loup are the best bets to work the ninth inning for the Halos with Iglesias serving his suspension.

  • Angels Claim Jonathan Villar Off Waivers

The Los Angeles Angels have claimed infielder Jonathan Villar off waivers from the Chicago Cubs, according to Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register. Villar was designated for assignment by the Cubs about a week ago. He slashed .222/.271/.327 with two home runs, six stolen bases, 15 RBI and 19 runs over 46 games in a Cubs uniform this year. He'll help give some infield depth to the Angels, who lost third baseman Anthony Rendon (wrist) for the year and are still awaiting the return of middle infielder David Fletcher (hip).

  • Mike Trout Doubles, Scores A Run On Wednesday

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout helped the team defeat the Chicago White Sox 4-1 on Wednesday. He went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in the game. The 30-year-old has been one of the league's most dominant and consistent hitters over the first half of the 2022 season. Through 69 games, he's slashing .285/.387/.650 with 23 home runs, 47 RBI and 53 runs. He currently owns a career-high 22.1% barrel rate (99th percentile) as well as a career-high .681 xSLG (99th percentile). And despite the fact that he hasn't stolen a base yet this year, he ranks in the 96th percentile in sprint speed.

  • Shohei Ohtani Fans 11 White Sox Hitters

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher/designated hitter Shohei Ohtani had a dominant outing against the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday. He pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing just five hits and one walk while recording 11 strikeouts. This was his fifth double-digit strikeout game of the year. Ohtani was simply fantastic on the mound throughout June. He closed out the month with three straight scoreless outings and he had a month-long ERA of just 1.52. The 27-year-old currently has a 33% strikeout rate on the year, which ranks in the 93rd percentile of the league and is a significant increase from last year's 29.3% strikeout rate.

  • Juan Lagares Elects Free Agency

Outfielder Juan Lagares has elected free agency after clearing waivers and being designated for assignment by the Angels last week, per the organization. • David Fletcher Takes Batting Practice On Wednesday

Los Angeles Angels infielder David Fletcher (hip) was able to take live batting practice on Wednesday. Fletcher continues to recover from surgery, but it's nice to see him making progress. The Angels are hopeful that Fletcher will be able to return in mid-July. He's expected to need a rehab assignment before rejoining the Angels roster. Fletcher was heavily struggling before landing on the injured list, but he does have a strong track record.

  • Brandon Marsh Exits Tuesday With Right Knee Contusion

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Brandon Marsh (knee) exited Tuesday's game against the White Sox in the eighth inning due to a right knee contusion, per's Rhett Bollinger. He was replaced by Monte Harrison and should be considered day-to-day at this time. The 24-year-old has slashed .236/.289/.356 with six home runs, 31 RBI, and four stolen bases this season. Fantasy managers should keep an eye out after the game and tomorrow for further updates.

  • David Fletcher Progressing In Recovery From Hip Injury

Los Angeles Angels second baseman David Fletcher (hip) advanced to hitting on the field Tuesday. He underwent surgery to fix both his right and left adductor muscles on May 10. The 28-year-old is eligible to return from the 60-day injured list in a few weeks. He was hitting just .158/.220/.263 with no homers and two RBI in his first 38 at-bats of the season. Fantasy managers should continue to stash Fletcher in deep-league formats after the veteran infielder stole 15 bags in 2021. Luis Rengifo will continue to handle second base duties while Fletcher is sidelined. Rengifo is slashing .236/.287/.364 with three homers, nine RBI, 13 runs scored, and a stolen base across 151 plate appearances.

  • Archie Bradley Lands On Injured List With Elbow Fracture

The Los Angeles Angeles placed right-handed pitcher Archie Bradley (elbow) on the 15-day injured list on Tuesday. The 29-year-old was diagnosed with a broken right elbow and he will be facing a lengthy absence. Fellow right-hander Chase Silseth was called up from Double-A in a corresponding move. Bradley has struggled to find consistency in his first year with the Angels. Over 21 appearances, he's posted a 4.82 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP while converting 2-of-4 save opportunities.

  • Noah Syndergaard Earns Quality Start, Win Monday

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard improved to 5-6 in Monday's 4-3 win over the White Sox. Thor pitched 7 innings, allowing three runs on six hits and a walk with seven strikeouts. He has had an up-and-down season and hasn't gotten the strikeouts fantasy managers have been used to seeing, but his 3.86 ERA over 12 starts is not bad, given he hasn't pitched a full season since 2019. Syndergaard will face a tough matchup at the Astros in his next start, and it would not be unreasonable for fantasy managers to consider sitting him if they have other rotation options.

  • Raisel Iglesias Notches 14th Save Of Season Monday

Los Angeles Angels closer Raisel Iglesias picked up his 14th save of the season in Monday's 4-3 win over the White Sox. Iglesias entered the game to pitch the ninth inning with a one-run lead and delivered a 1-2-3 inning with a strikeout. It was announced earlier Monday that he was suspended for two games for his actions during a bench-clearing brawl with the Seattle Mariners on Sunday. However, the 32-year-old closer seems to have appealed the suspension, so he should be able to pitch in the interim. Iglesias has been a solid fantasy option once again this season and has a 3.76 ERA, 12.99 K/9 rate, and 1.37 BB/9 rate with just two blown saves. He should remain in fantasy managers' lineups until his suspension gets resolved or served.

  • Andrew Wantz Suspended Three Games

Los Angeles Angels right-hander Andrew Wantz was suspended for three games for throwing at Seattle Mariners outfielder Jesse Winker while warnings were in place on Sunday. Wantz hit Winker on the hip after earlier throwing a pitch near the head of Julio Rodriguez. The Angels were reportedly unhappy about a pitch thrown near the head of Mike Trout earlier in the series and Wantz retaliated on Sunday. Wantz has not appealed the suspension and will begin to serve it on Monday night as his teammates take on the Chicago White Sox at home. Wantz has a 3.18 across 12 appearances for Los Angeles in 2022.

  • Raisel Iglesias Suspended Two Games

Los Angeles Angels closer Raisel Iglesias was suspended for two games for his actions during a bench-clearing brawl with the Seattle Mariners on Sunday. Iglesias was not in the game at the time and entered the fracas from the bullpen after teammate Andrew Wantz hit Jesse Winker on the hip. The 32-year-old closer seems to have appealed the suspension, so he will presumably be out there for potential save opportunities as the Angels open up a home series against the Chicago White Sox on Monday. Setup man Ryan Tepera also received a three-game suspension, meaning it could be some combination of lefty Aaron Loup and/or right-hander Archie Bradley closing out games when the Iglesias and Tepera suspensions are eventually served.

  • Matt Duffy Placed On 10-Day Injured List Monday

The Los Angeles Angels placed infielder Matt Duffy (back) on the 10-day injured list on Monday. He has been dealing with lower back spasms. The issue caused him to be removed from Sunday's game against the Seattle Mariners. The Angels called up catcher Matt Thaiss from Triple-A to fill Duffy's roster spot. Duffy has played in 45 games this year and he's slashed .261/.308/.291 with just four extra-base hits (all doubles).

The Angels announced Monday that they’ve claimed corner outfielder Dillon Thomas off waivers from the Astros and assigned him to Triple-A Salt Lake. • Matt Duffy Removed From Sunday's Contest

Los Angeles Angels infielder Matt Duffy (back) was removed early during Sunday's game against the Seattle Mariners. The 31-year-old was pulled out of the game due to lower back tightness. It's not exactly clear what happened to Duffy, but the injury is believed to be minor. Andrew Velazquez replaced him in the lineup with Luis Rengifo sliding over to cover second base. Those two would likely split up the playing time, assuming Duffy is forced to miss time.

  • Angels Designate Juan Lagares For Assignment

Angels outfielder Juan Lagares has been designated for assignment, per an announcement from the team. • Mike Trout Gets The Day Off Wednesday

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Kansas City Royals. According to Angels interim manager Phil Nevin, Trout is "sore" and needed the day off. The superstar outfielder had not had a day off since suffering a groin injury on June 10. He is slashing .284/.385/.640 with 21 home runs, 43 RBI, 49 runs scored, and 33 walks over 63 games in 2022. Juan Lagares will take Trout's place in the lineup, playing centerfield and batting eighth in Wednesday's game.

  • Angels Option Reid Detmers To The Minors

The Los Angeles Angels optioned left-hander Reid Detmers to Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday and also placed right-hander Jimmy Herget (shoulder) on the injured list. Detmers, in just his second major league season, threw a no-hitter against the Tampa Bay Rays on May 10, but he just hasn't been any good since then. In his last six starts, Detmers is 0-2 and has allowed 17 earned runs on 25 hits (eight home runs) while walking 13 and striking out 24 in 27 innings. The 22-year-old southpaw should be back up with the Angels at some point this year, but he'll go down to the minors to work on some things first. Detmers' 5.37 FIP, 18.6% strikeout rate and .204 batting average on balls in play suggest it wasn't just bad luck either.

  • Noah Syndergaard Allows Two Homers, Takes Loss Monday

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard fell to 4-6 in Monday's 6-2 loss to the Royals. Thor pitched 7 1/3 innings, allowing five runs on eight hits (including two home runs) and two walks with five strikeouts. The 29-year-old has had a decent return season, compiling a 3.86 ERA across 11 starts and 58 1/3 IP. However, the strikeouts have not been there with a 6.17 K/9 rate. Syndergaard will look to rebound in his next start in a decent matchup against the Mariners at home.
