  • Jonathan Schoop Hits First Home Run On Wednesday

Detroit Tigers second baseman Jonathan Schoop has been ice cold at the plate to start the season. Going into Wednesday's doubleheader against the Pittsburgh Pirates, he was yet to record a single extra-base hit over 52 plate appearances on the year. Fortunately, he broke that streak in Game 2 of the doubleheader when he went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, his first of the year. Schoop is slashing a lackluster .182/.217/.236 on the year. He has just four RBI and seven runs. Schoop can be left on waivers in just about all leagues at this point. If he heats up at some point, he'll be worth a look in deep leagues and AL-only leagues, but fantasy managers can wait for that to happen before making a move on him.

  • Gregory Soto Earns Second Save On Wednesday

Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Gregory Soto closed out Game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Pittsburgh Pirates to earn his second save of the year. He pitched a perfect seventh inning, allowing no hits or walks while striking out two. This was his first save since Opening Day. He is now tied with Bryan Garcia for the team lead in saves with two. No other Tiger has earned a save. Garcia pitched the sixth inning of this game, acting as a setup man in front of Soto. Soto has been the more effective pitcher between the two so far this year with a 2.16 ERA and 1.32 WHIP. Garcia has a 5.87 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP. Soto might have the slight edge over Garcia in save opportunities, but Tigers manager A.J. Hinch may mix things up and play the matchups.

  • Spencer Turnbull Allows One Run In 2021 Debut

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Spencer Turnbull had a strong 2021 debut on Wednesday. Turnbull started the second game of a doubleheader against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He pitched five innings and allowed two hits, two walks and one earned run while striking out six. He earned the win as the Tigers claimed a 5-2 victory. Turnbull only needed 62 pitches to get through five innings and he threw 42 of those pitches for strikes. He's someone who should be rostered in all deep leagues and AL-only leagues as he's coming off a solid 2020 season where he posted a 3.97 ERA and 1.34 WHIP. Turnbull's next start will be on Tuesday against the Chicago White Sox.

  • Michael Fulmer Tagged With First Loss On Wednesday

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Michael Fulmer got off to a strong start in his second start of the year in Game 1 of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He retired each of the first nine batters he faced. However, in the fourth inning, he unraveled and went on to allow three runs. His final line was four innings, four hits, one walk, three earned runs and three strikeouts. He was tagged with his first loss of the season as the Tigers fell 3-2. Fulmer still has a decent 3.94 ERA and a strong 0.81 WHIP on the year. His next start will be on Monday against the Kansas City Royals.

  • Tigers DFA first baseman Renato Nunez

The Detroit Tigers have DFA'd first baseman Renato Nunez. In a corresponding move, the team recalled infielder Zack Short from the alternate training site.Nunez played just seven games for the team and hit two home runs and two doubles, but had a .148/.207/.651 slash line. Harold Castro and Jonathan Schoop should split first base duties for the Tigers until Miguel Cabrera (biceps) returns from the injured list.

Apr 21 · RotoBaller Tigers Renato Nunez
  • Spencer Turnbull To Make 2021 Debut Wednesday

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Spencer Turnbull will make his first start of the 2021 season on Wednesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Turnbull has been at the club's alternate site where he has been building himself up after being forced to distance from the team due to COVID-19 protocols. With Turnbull rejoining the rotation, Tigers manager A.J. Hinch has announced that Tarik Skubal will work in a tandem role of sorts. Skubal will be used in relief and as the team's sixth starter when Hinch sees fit. Skubal can be dropped in just about all redraft leagues as a result of this announcement. Turnbull, who had a 3.97 ERA and 1.34 WHIP through 11 starts in 2020, is someone worth adding to rosters in most leagues of 12 teams or deeper.

  • Matthew Boyd Allows Two Runs Over 7 1/3 Innings

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Matthew Boyd was solid again on Sunday against the Oakland Athletics. He pitched 7 1/3 innings and allowed four hits, one walk and two earned runs while striking out five. He allowed his first home run of the year in the game when Sean Murphy hit a solo shot in the eighth inning. Through four starts this year, Boyd has a 2.03 ERA and 0.98 WHIP. He should be rostered in all leagues at this point as he looks to be on the verge of a big bounce-back year after a rough 2020 season. His next start will be on Saturday against the Kansas City Royals.

Apr 18 · RotoBaller Tigers Matthew Boyd
  • Spencer Turnbull Could Return Next Week

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Spencer Turnbull has a good chance to return to the rotation next week according to Tigers manager A.J. Hinch. Turnbull has been building himself back up at the club's alternate site after he was forced to remain away from the team due to COVID-19 protocols. The Tigers will have some decisions to make upon Turnbull's return. Hinch hinted that the team could go with a six-man rotation this year and that might be the most likely option. Michael Fulmer just joined the team's rotation from the bullpen, but has pitched well, so Hinch may be hesitant to take his spot away. Jose Urena and Tarik Skubal could potentially be on the hot seat as well. Turnbull had a 3.97 ERA and 1.34 WHIP over 11 starts in 2020 and is worth roster consideration in all deep leagues and AL-only leagues.

Apr 18 · RotoBaller Tigers Spencer Turnbull
  • Casey Mize Hit Hard By Athletics

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Casey Mize had his worst outing of the year so far against the Oakland Athletics on Saturday. Mize pitched five innings and allowed seven hits and five earned runs while striking out four. The Athletics hit three home runs against him, the first three home runs Mize has surrendered this year. On the bright side, Mize didn't give up a single walk after walking four batters in his first 11 innings of the year. Mize's season-long numbers still look decent. He has a 3.38 ERA and 1.25 WHIP through three starts. He'll look to shake off this start next time out against the Kansas City Royals on Friday.

Apr 18 · RotoBaller Tigers Casey Mize
  • Akil Baddoo Getting The Day Off Saturday

Detroit Tigers outfielder Akil Baddoo will take a seat on the bench for Saturday's game against the Athletics. Baddoo is getting a breather after a bit of a rough patch, as he has six strikeouts in his last seven at-bats. JaCoby Jones will be in left with Victor Reyes patrolling center field on Saturday.

Apr 17 · RotoBaller Tigers Akil Baddoo
  • Jose Urena A Tough Luck Loser On Friday

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Jose Urena had his best start as a Tiger so far on Friday against the Oakland Athletics. He pitched seven innings and allowed seven hits, two walks and two earned runs while striking out eight. Unfortunately, the Tigers' bats were shutout by Frankie Montas and the Athletics' bullpen. Urena took the loss and fell to 0-3 on the year. Despite the loss, the start was a big step in the right direction for Urena, who had allowed seven earned runs over 7 2/3 innings across his first two starts. Urena will look to build on this outing his next time out against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday.

Apr 17 · RotoBaller Tigers Jose Urena
  • Niko Goodrum Homers, Tallies Three Hits On Thursday

Detroit Tigers utility man Niko Goodrum had a strong offensive showing in Thursday's 8-4 loss to the Oakland Athletics. Goodrum hit second in the order and went 3-for-4, hitting his first home run of the season, a solo shot off Athletics starter Sean Manaea in the sixth inning. Goodrum has started in eight of the Tigers' 15 games so far. He's slashing .286/.355/.429 on the year. If he could earn more regular playing time, he'd be worth a roster spot in deep leagues and AL-only leagues. He has stolen base upside as he stole seven bags over 43 games last year. However, his playing time isn't frequent enough to warrant rostering him at this point.

Apr 16 · RotoBaller Tigers Niko Goodrum
  • Willi Castro Drives In Two Runs On Thursday

Detroit Tigers shortstop Willi Castro had his third multi-hit game of the year on Thursday against the Oakland Athletics. Castro went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple. He had two RBI and he scored a run as well. Castro is off to a quiet start to the 2021 season. Through 12 games, he's slashing .220/.250/.320 with three RBI and three runs. He's yet to hit his first home run of the year. In Thursday's game, he hit sixth in the order for the first time this year. He's spent most of the year hitting second or third. If the lineup move sticks, it could help his RBI potential, but it would hurt his fantasy value just about everywhere else. Castro is worth a roster spot in deep leagues and AL-only leagues, but he can be left on waivers in shallow leagues.

Apr 16 · RotoBaller Tigers Willi Castro
  • Tarik Skubal Tagged With Second Loss On Thursday

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Tarik Skubal was tagged with his second loss of the year in Thursday's game against the Oakland Athletics. Skubal pitched four innings and allowed two hits, four walks and two runs (one earned) while striking out five. He now has a 6.08 ERA and 1.50 WHIP over three starts. He has an even more concerning xERA of 7.54. He's failed to go past four innings in each of his last two starts now. Batters have a 20% barrel rate against him, a mark that ranks him amongst the bottom 4% of the league. Skubal can be left on waivers in all redraft leagues at this point. Dynasty managers should remain patient. Skubal's next start will be on Wednesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Apr 16 · RotoBaller Tigers Tarik Skubal
  • Bryan Garcia Records Second Save On Wednesday

Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Bryan Garcia was thrust into a tough position in Wednesday's game against the Houston Astros. Garcia came in during the ninth inning with the bases loaded and no outs as the Tigers held a 6-3 lead. Jose Cisnero, who began the ninth inning, had loaded the bases without recording an out. Garcia walked in a run, but managed to get the other three hitters he faced out, including two strikeouts. He now has two saves over six appearances on the year. Garcia pitched on Tuesday, which is probably why Tigers manager A.J. Hinch elected to go with Cisnero to start the ninth inning on Wednesday. This outing should reinforce Garcia's hold on the closer role in Detroit. He may not get all of the opportunities going forward, but he should get most.

Apr 14 · RotoBaller Tigers Bryan Garcia
  • Michael Fulmer Earns Win In First Start Of 2021

Detroit Tigers pitcher Michael Fulmer held the Houston Astros to three hits, one walk and two runs over five innings on Wednesday. It was his first start of the season and he earned the win as the Tigers defeated the Astros 6-4. Fulmer opened up the year in the bullpen, but he was moved to the rotation after Julio Teheran (shoulder) was placed on the injured list. Fulmer looked good in his relief outings, striking out 10 batters over seven innings before this start. It was a bit disappointing to see him only manage two strikeouts in this five inning outing. He's worth keeping an eye on in deep leagues and AL-only leagues, but there's no need to rush and add him. Fulmer's next start will be on Tuesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Apr 14 · RotoBaller Tigers Michael Fulmer
  • Jeimer Candelario Tallies Three Hits, Two RBI On Wednesday

Detroit Tigers third baseman Jeimer Candelario had a solid performance in Wednesday's 6-4 win over the Houston Astros. He went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI in the game. Candelario had a fantastic series overall against the Astros. He had multiple hits in each of the three games, going 7-for-12 with three walks overall. He's slashing .326/.415/.478 on the year, picking right up where he left off in 2020, when he slashed .297/.369/.503. Candelario will look to stay hot as the Tigers open up a four-game road series with the Oakland Athletics on Thursday.

Apr 14 · RotoBaller Tigers Jeimer Candelario
  • Nomar Mazara Has Early Exit Wednesday Night

Detroit Tigers outfielder Nomar Mazara left Wednesday's game in the middle of a plate appearance after he appeared to injure himself on a swing, according to Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press. JaCoby Jones entered the game as a pinch hitter to finish the plate appearance and drew a walk to load the bases in the top of the fourth inning. There is no word yet on what Mazara may have injured. Mazara has had a good start to the season, slashing .250/.289/.417 with two home runs and five RBI in 12 games so far.

Apr 14 · RotoBaller Tigers Nomar Mazara
  • Wilson Ramos Blasts Two Home Runs On Tuesday

Detroit Tigers catcher Wilson Ramos helped lead the team to an 8-2 victory over the Houston Astros on Tuesday. Ramos went 2-for-5 in the game with two home runs and three RBI. He has now hit five home runs over his last five games and has a total of six home runs on the year. Ramos had a down year in 2020, slashing .239/.297/.387 with five home runs in 45 games. This year, he looks motivated to bounce back in a big way. He's risen up the fantasy catcher rankings drastically since the start of the year and should be viewed as a top-10 catcher going forward.

Apr 13 · RotoBaller Tigers Wilson Ramos
  • Akil Baddoo Homers In Second Straight Game

Detroit Tigers outfielder Akil Baddoo went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in the team's 8-2 win over the Houston Astros on Tuesday. Baddoo now has four home runs over just 23 at-bats on the year. He's slashing .391/.400/1.043. Baddoo continues to hit in the lower-third of the Tigers' lineup, but at least he's playing essentially everyday at this point. If Baddoo is still out there in your fantasy league, now might be the time to grab him before its too late. He's been the Tigers' most electric hitter so far this year and it's hard to imagine the team getting away from him.

Apr 13 · RotoBaller Tigers Akil Baddoo
  • Matthew Boyd Allows One Run Over 6 1/3 Innings

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Matthew Boyd recorded his second-straight quality start on Tuesday against the Houston Astros. Boyd pitched 6 1/3 innings and allowed six hits, one walk and one earned run while striking out four. He earned the win and improved to 2-1 on the year. He has a 1.86 ERA over 19 innings. Boyd looks nothing like his 2020 self right now. Last year, he had a 6.71 ERA and 1.48 WHIP across 12 starts. Boyd needs to be rostered in all fantasy leagues while he is pitching as well as he is right now. His next start will be on Sunday against the Oakland Athletics.

Apr 13 · RotoBaller Tigers Matthew Boyd
  • Renato Nunez Hits First Home Run On Monday

Detroit Tigers first baseman Renato Nunez got his second-straight start on Monday and delivered a strong performance. He went 2-for-5 with a double and a home run. With Miguel Cabrera (biceps) on the injured list, Nunez should be the team's primary first baseman. Nunez has significant power upside. He hit 12 home runs in 52 games for the Baltimore Orioles in 2020 and he hit 31 home runs in 151 games the year before that. Fantasy managers looking for short-term power help should heavily consider adding Nunez to their roster.

Apr 13 · RotoBaller Tigers Renato Nunez
  • Akil Baddoo Goes Yard For Third Home Run On Monday

Detroit Tigers outfielder Akil Baddoo had a solid game in Monday's 6-2 win over the Houston Astros. Baddoo went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run and two RBI. The home run was his third of the year and his first since his grand slam last Monday. Baddoo is now slashing .368/.381/1.000 through seven games and 20 plate appearances. He's started three of the team's past four games and looks to be a safe bet for semi-regular playing time going forward. He should be rostered in all deep leagues and all five-outfielder leagues. He's still hitting in the lower-third of the lineup, but if he keeps mashing, Tigers manager A.J. Hinch will be forced to move him up.

Apr 13 · RotoBaller Tigers Akil Baddoo
  • Casey Mize Sharp In Win Over Astros

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Casey Mize earned his first win of the year in Monday's game against the Houston Astros. Mize pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out five. Mize has seen a significant velocity spike with his four-seamer, which is sitting at an average velocity of 95.5 mph, up from 93.7 mph last year. He's leaning more heavily on the pitch this year so far as well, throwing it 31% of the time compared to 25.4% last year. Mize is worth considering picking up in all fantasy formats after such an impressive outing against a tough Astros lineup. He should certainly be rostered in all deep leagues and AL-only leagues at this point. His next start will be on Saturday against the Oakland Athletics.

Apr 13 · RotoBaller Tigers Casey Mize
  • Wilson Ramos Trying To Motivate Tigers

Detroit Tigers catcher Wilson Ramos wasn't happy about the team's performance this past weekend as they were swept by the Cleveland Indians. After the series, Ramos told the press, "We need some more energy out there. We need to keep our head up. It's hard right now, losing four in a row, but we have to keep fighting. We have to go out there and do our best." Ramos was one of the few offensive bright spots for the Tigers this past weekend. He hit home runs on Friday and Sunday. He's off to a great start to the year, slashing .273/.360/.864 with four home runs, but they've all be solo shots. He should be rostered in most leagues and has the potential to be a top-10 catcher throughout the year, despite the lack of support in the Tigers' lineup.

Apr 12 · RotoBaller Tigers Wilson Ramos
  • Renato Nunez Could See Significant Playing Time

Detroit Tigers first baseman Renato Nunez was added to the team's roster on Sunday after Miguel Cabrera (biceps) was placed on the 10-day injured list. Nunez played designated hitter and batted cleanup in Sunday's game against the Cleveland Indians, going 0-for-3 with a walk and three strikeouts. While Cabrera is out, Nunez could see semi-regular playing time at both designated hitter and first base. The 27-year-old is a proven power hitter who smashed 43 home runs over 203 games with the Baltimore Orioles the past two years. He's worth a look in deep leagues and AL-only leagues for fantasy managers in need of a short-term power boost.

Apr 12 · RotoBaller Tigers Renato Nunez
  • Jose Urena Tagged With Second Loss On Sunday

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Jose Urena was tagged with his second loss of the year on Sunday as the Tigers fell 5-2 to the Cleveland Indians. Urena pitched 4 2/3 innings and allowed three hits, five walks and two earned runs while striking out four. He now has an 8.22 ERA and 2.09 WHIP on the year. Urena will be one of the prime candidates to lose a rotation spot once Spencer Turnbull returns to the team. Turnbull has been away from the Tigers while following COVID protocols. The Tigers also have Matt Manning, the No. 22 overall prospect on MLB.com, waiting in the wings and likely to make his MLB debut this year. All in all, Urena will need to turn things around quickly to keep his rotation spot.

Apr 11 · RotoBaller Tigers Jose Urena
  • Miguel Cabrera Placed On Injured List With Left Biceps Strain

The Detroit Tigers have placed first baseman Miguel Cabrera (biceps) on the 10-day injured list with a left biceps strain. The team added first baseman Renato Nunez to their 40-man roster in a corresponding move. Cabrera had gone cold after his Opening Day home run. He's slashing just .125/.222/.292 on the young season. Jonathan Schoop is shifting over to cover first base in Sunday's game against the Cleveland Indians. Harold Castro and Jeimer Candelario could also see time at first base while Cabrera is out. Nunez should get some opportunities there as well.

Apr 11 · RotoBaller Tigers Miguel Cabrera
  • Michael Fulmer To Move Into Tigers Rotation

Detroit Tigers pitcher Michael Fulmer will move into the team's starting rotation with Julio Teheran (shoulder) placed on the injured list. Fulmer will likely make his first start of the year on Wednesday against the Houston Astros. Fulmer has pitched well out of the bullpen this year. He's made three appearances, pitching seven innings and allowing four hits, no walks and two earned runs while striking out 10. His velocity has been up on each of his three main pitches this year, his slider, four-seam fastball and sinker. Fulmer has had a rough couple of years. He underwent Tommy John surgery and missed all of 2019, then posted an 8.78 ERA over 27.2 innings in 2020. He might be on the verge of a bounce-back season, so make sure to monitor his first start on Wednesday.

Apr 11 · RotoBaller Tigers Michael Fulmer
  • Tarik Skubal Allows Three Homers, Six Runs On Saturday

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Tarik Skubal was hit hard in his second start of the season on Saturday. Facing the Cleveland Indians for the second straight time, Skubal pitched four innings and allowed five hits, three walks and six earned runs while striking out three. The Indians hit three home runs off of him. Skubal only allowed two earned runs over 5 1/3 innings his first time out this year, but the Indians clearly did their homework in preparation for the rematch. Skubal is worth monitoring in all fantasy leagues. He's got a lot of upside, but could be inconsistent and might not pitch too deep into games. His next outing will be on Thursday against the Oakland Athletics.

Apr 10 · RotoBaller Tigers Tarik Skubal
  • Julio Teheran Placed On IL With Shoulder Strain

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Julio Teheran (shoulder) has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a right shoulder strain, according to Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic. Teheran was scratched from his scheduled start on Friday as a precaution with tightness in his right triceps, but now it appears to be a shoulder issue he is dealing with. He had looked solid in his first start of the year, allowing one run while striking out three in five innings of work to earn the win. In a corresponding move, the Tigers recalled pitcher Alex Lange from the alternate site, but it appears likely that Michael Fulmer will make the move back from the bullpen to the rotation while Teheran is out.

Apr 10 · RotoBaller Tigers Julio Teheran
  • Julio Teheran Scratched From Start Friday

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Julio Teheran (triceps) was scratched from his scheduled start on Friday against the Cleveland Indians as a precaution when he felt tightness in his right triceps. Teheran was replaced by left-handed reliever Derek Holland, who made five starts for the Pittsburgh Pirates last year. Holland had appeared in two games this year before making the emergency start. Teheran beat Cleveland in his debut last week, giving up one run and four hits in his five innings of work. The 30-year-old made nine starts for the Los Angeles Angels last season after spending the previous nine seasons with the Atlanta Braves. It's unknown if the veteran right-hander will require a stint on the injured list, but it doesn't sound like the injury is all that serious.

Apr 9 · RotoBaller Tigers Julio Teheran
  • Willi Castro Leading Off For Tigers On Friday

Detroit Tigers shortstop Willi Castro will hit leadoff for the first time this season on Friday against Zach Plesac and the Cleveland Indians. The team's primary leadoff hitter Robbie Grossman is getting the day off. Castro has hit second or third in the lineup in each game before this one. He's off to a somewhat slow start to the year, but he recorded three hits in the team's most recent game against the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday. Castro has only one extra-base hit on the year so far, a triple that came in the team's second game of the year. Castro is one of the top bats in the Tigers' lineup. Expect to see him start producing better power numbers soon.

Apr 9 · RotoBaller Tigers Willi Castro
  • Robbie Grossman Absent From Friday's Lineup

Detroit Tigers outfielder Robbie Grossman is getting his first day off of the year on Friday as the team takes on Zach Plesac and the Cleveland Indians. Grossman has been the team's primary leadoff hitter this year, but shortstop Willi Castro is taking on leadoff duties on Friday. Grossman is off to a decent start to his first season with the Tigers. He's hitting just .125 through 16 at-bats, but he has nine walks on the year. Expect to see him back in the lineup on Saturday.

Apr 9 · RotoBaller Tigers Robbie Grossman
  • Spencer Torkelson Remains Confident After Rough Spring Training

Detroit Tigers top prospect Spencer Torkelson had an abysmal first spring training with the club this year. He went just 1-for-27 with four walks and 16 strikeouts. As a result, the 21-year-old was reassigned to the minors to start the year. Despite the struggles, Torkelson told the press in a recent interview that he remains upbeat and confident. Torkelson was selected first overall by the Tigers in the 2020 MLB draft. He has tantalizing upside, but he still might be a year or two away from making his MLB debut.

Apr 9 · RotoBaller Tigers Spencer Torkelson
  • Wilson Ramos Hits Second Home Run On Wednesday

Detroit Tigers catcher Wilson Ramos hit his second home run in three days on Wednesday against the Minnesota Twins. It was a solo home run and his only hit in the game as he went 1-for-2 with a strikeout. Ramos has started five of the Tigers' six games so far this year and is slashing .250/.333/.688. He hit out of the five-spot on Opening Day, but Tigers manager A.J. Hinch has had him in the lower-third of the lineup ever since. Hinch likely wants a veteran presence near the back of the lineup. If Ramos remains in the lower-third of the lineup, it will limit his at-bats and his run production opportunities. Ramos has some solid value in two-catcher leagues and AL-only leagues, but he's fine to leave on the waiver wire in shallow leagues.

Apr 8 · RotoBaller Tigers Wilson Ramos
  • Willi Castro Has Three-Hit Day On Wednesday

Detroit Tigers shortstop Willi Castro has had a somewhat quiet start to the season. However, on Wednesday against the Minnesota Twins, he had his first multi-hit game of the year, going 3-for-4 with three singles. Castro is 6-for-25 overall on the year. He only has one extra-base hit, a triple, and he has just one RBI and two runs scored. Castro was a revelation for the Tigers last year as he slashed .349/.381/.550 over 36 games. He's either hit second or third in the lineup each game so far this year. Despite the lack of power output, Castro has been hitting the ball hard. He's registered an average exit velocity of 92.1 mph and a hard-hit rate of 42.1%. Fantasy managers should stay patient with Castro. Hopefully Wednesday's three-hit day will help get him back on track.

  • Matthew Boyd Solid Again, Despite Loss

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Matthew Boyd had another strong outing against the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday. Boyd pitched seven innings and allowed seven hits, no walks and three earned runs while striking out eight. Unfortunately, he was tagged with a loss in the game as the Tigers fell 3-2. Boyd now has a 2.13 ERA and 1.11 WHIP over two starts. He's yielded just one barrel over 36 batted balls. He's been throwing his changeup more this year (23.9%) than last year (17.2%). His changeup is his most effective pitch. It's registered a whiff rate of 36.4% this year. His next start will be on Tuesday on the road against the Houston Astros.
