  • Mike Clevinger Under Investigation For Domestic Violence

Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Mike Clevinger is under investigation by MLB after allegations of domestic violence and child abuse. Olivia Finestead, the mother of Clevinger's 10-month-old daughter, detailed to investigators incidents of physical, verbal and emotional abuse, including an incident last June in which she said Clevinger choked her. There was another incident two weeks later when she said Clevinger slapped her and threw used chewing tobacco on their child. The White Sox became aware of the allegations after they signed him this offseason. The 32-year-old right-hander had a rough 2022 with the San Diego Padres in his first season back from Tommy John surgery, and now he could be facing a lengthy suspension in 2023. Stay tuned for more details on the situation.

  • Eloy Jimenez Wants Larger Outfield Role In 2023

Chicago White Sox outfielder/designated hitter Eloy Jimenez said on a Monday Zoom call that he does not want to serve as the team's primary DH in 2023. Jimenez did serve that role in 2022, as he was recovering from surgery to repair a torn hamstring tendon behind his right knee. The good news is that the 26-year-old performed exceptionally well at the plate, slashing .295/.358/.500 with 16 home runs and 54 RBI in 327 plate appearances. How Jimenez gets his at-bats is not much of a fantasy concern, as long as he plays enough outfield to maintain position eligibility for future seasons. What is a concern is his overall health, as he saw just 558 plate appearances over the 2021-22 seasons.

  • Oscar Colas Will Be Given Shot In Right Field

Chicago White Sox outfield prospect Oscar Colas will have every opportunity to win the starting right field job in 2023 in spring training, according to manager Pedro Grifol. The 24-year-old is the second-ranked prospect in the team's farm system, and he hit .314 with 23 home runs, 79 RBI and an .895 OPS in 117 games over three minor-league levels in 2022. Gavin Sheets, Leury Garcia and Jake Marisnick are the other options in right field, but Grifol didn't rule out the defensively challenged Eloy Jimenez factoring in as well. Otherwise, Jimenez will be the team's primary designated hitter. Colas, even if he starts the year in the minors, will be worth stashing in AL-only and deep-mixed fantasy leagues in 2023.

  • Mike Clevinger's Knee Injury "Not A Factor"

Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Mike Clevinger (knee) had a platelet-rich plasma injection in his right knee before he signed with the team, but pitching coach Ethan Katz said it's currently "not a factor" in Clevinger's preparation for 2023. In his first season back from Tommy John surgery in 2022 with the San Diego Padres, Clevinger had the worst ERA (4.33) since his rookie year and declining velocity in the second half was attributed to his knee injury. The White Sox's focus is returning Clevinger's delivery to what it looked like before his injury, and he could also add more breaking pitches to his arsenal. Working with his former coach in Single-A, Clevinger could find success again in the weak American League Central if he can stay healthy, and he'll come cheap in fantasy drafts.

  • Dylan Cease To Earn $5.7 Million In 2023

The Chicago White Sox and starting pitcher Dylan Cease avoided salary arbitration on Friday by agreeing to a one-year, $5.7 million deal. Cease finished up his fourth season with the White Sox with a 14-8 record, career-low 2.20 ERA (3.10 FIP), 1.11 WHIP and 30.4 percent strikeout rate in a career-high 184 innings over 32 starts. The 27-year-old was among the league's elite starting pitchers last season, but he did walk a league-high 78 batters along the way. Cease finished up his regular season with quality starts in five of his last six outings and struck out a career-high 227 batters (one more than 2021). Needless to say, he'll be a pretty popular high-end fantasy starter in drafts this spring.

  • Hanser Alberto Agrees To Minor-League Deal With White Sox

The Chicago White Sox agreed with free-agent infielder Hanser Alberto on a minor-league deal on Wednesday, according to sources. Alberto is likely to receive an invitation to major-league spring training after playing in 73 games for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2022. In those 73 contests, the 30-year-old hit .244/.258/.365 with a .623 OPS, two home runs, 15 RBI and 13 runs scored in 159 plate appearances. If Alberto makes the White Sox's Opening Day roster out of spring training, he'll likely be filling a utility infield role and is unlikely to see regular playing time. In his seven-year major-league career, Alberto has slashed .272/.294/.380 with a .674 OPS, 19 home runs, 121 RBI, 149 runs and 12 stolen bases in 458 games with the Dodgers, Royals, Orioles and Rangers.
