  • Franmil Reyes Designated For Assignment On Saturday

Cleveland Guardians outfielder Franmil Reyes was designated for assignment on Saturday. He's struggled mightily this season, slashing .213/.254/.350 with nine home runs and 28 RBI across 280 plate appearances in 70 games. The Cleveland Guardians optioned the 27-year-old on Tuesday, and he will now be removed from the 40-man roster. Despite his struggles this season, Reyes smashed 30 homers and drove in 85 runs in 2021. An MLB team will likely take a chance and claim Reyes on waivers with his past success.

  • Steven Kwan Not In The Lineup Saturday Against Houston

Cleveland Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan (foot) is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Houston Astros. He exited Friday's game early after fouling a pitch off his left foot. The 24-year-old is slashing .294/.367/.379 with two home runs, 28 RBI, 51 runs scored, and nine stolen bases in 94 games in 2022. Andres Gimenez will head leadoff for Saturday's game, while Will Benson handles centerfield duties with Kwan sidelined. Benson has not collected a hit in eight plate appearances since being called up from Triple-A Columbus on August 1. Fantasy managers can avoid using Benson as a streamer in most league formats.

  • Steven Kwan Leaves Friday's Game Early

Cleveland Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan (foot) left Friday's game against the Houston Astros with a left-foot contusion. Kwan fouled a ball off of his foot during the game and left for precautionary reasons. Before the injury, the rookie outfielder went 0-for-2 at the plate, ending his hit streak at 18 games. Kwan's rookie year has been solid, with the 24-year-old hitting .295 with two homers, 51 runs, 28 RBI, and nine steals over 346 at-bats. It sounds like the injury is minor but look for Cleveland to update Kwan's status after Friday's game concludes.

  • Guardians Designate Alex Call For Assignment

The Guardians designated outfielder Alex Call for assignment this afternoon. The move cleared the necessary 40-man roster spot for Hunter Gaddis, who was promoted to make his major league debut against the Astros. Call made it to the majors for the first time a few weeks ago. The 27-year-old outfielder was brought up in mid-July, ultimately appearing…

  • Hunter Gaddis To Start On Friday

Cleveland Guardians starting pitcher Hunter Gaddis will make his MLB debut against the Houston Astros on Friday. The right-hander has a 4.07 ERA with a 114/31 K/BB ratio over 86 1/3 innings between Double-A and Triple-A this season. It appears he does have decent swing-and-miss swing. Possibly, Gaddis earns himself a role in Cleveland, but that might depend on how he looks during this contest. Gaddis will be a risky streaming option against the tough Astros lineup.

  • Guardians Promote Tyler Freeman

The Guardians have called up infield prospect Tyler Freeman for his Major League debut and optioned infielder Ernie Clement to Triple-A Columbus in his place, per a team announcement. (Zack Meisel of The Athletic first reported that Freeman was being called up). Freeman is already on the 40-man roster, so the Guardians didn’t need to make any…

  • Franmil Reyes Optioned To The Minors

The Cleveland Guardians optioned outfielder Franmil Reyes to Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday. Oscar Gonzalez (intercostal) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. Reyes has struggled mightily this season, slashing .213/.254/.350 with nine home runs and 28 RBI across 280 plate appearances in 70 games. The 27-year-old smashed 30 homers and drove in 85 runs in 2021. He will look to get back on track in the minors, but fantasy managers can move on from Reyes in most league formats. Gonzalez slashed .285/.315/.431 with a pair of home runs and 14 RBI in 32 games before getting injured. The 24-year-old is a speculative add in deep-league formats and should see everyday at-bats as the team's starting right fielder.

  • Oscar Gonzalez Back In The Lineup Tuesday

Cleveland Guardians rookie outfielder Oscar Gonzalez (intercostal) has been activated from the 10-day injured list and is back in the starting lineup on Tuesday against Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Zac Gallen, starting in right field and batting seventh in the batting order. Gonzalez will be making his return after getting injured in June, and he'll return to a solid .285/.315/.431 slash line with two home runs, 14 RBI and 12 runs scored in his first 123 major league at-bats. The 24-year-old Dominican should be a lineup regular for Cleveland. In a corresponding move, the Guardians are expected to designate the struggling Franmil Reyes for assignment.

  • Franmil Reyes Could Be Optioned Tuesday

The Athletic's Zack Meisel reported Monday that Cleveland Guardians designated hitter/outfielder Franmil Reyes was cleaning out his locker after Monday's 6-5 extra-innings win over the Diamondbacks and could be optioned to Triple-A Columbus. Reyes pinch-hit in the game, going 0-for-1. Franimal has served as a power option for fantasy managers for much of his career, but he has managed a meager .213/.254/.350 slash line with nine home runs and 28 RBI this season. This move may come if outfielder Oscar Gonzalez (intercostal) were to be activated from the injured list. Fantasy managers have likely lost trust in Reyes, and this move would solidify that judgment.

  • Guardians Select Will Benson

The Guardians have selected Will Benson’s contract from Triple-A Columbus, putting the outfielder in line to make his Major League debut.  In corresponding moves, outfielder Alex Call was optioned to Triple-A, while Anthony Gose was moved from the 15-day to the 60-day injured list. Benson was selected 14th overall by Cleveland in the 2016 draft,…

  • Shane Bieber Unlikely To Be Traded

The Cleveland Guardians could be daydreaming about the haul that starting pitcher Shane Bieber could fetch on the trade market after the Cincinnati Reds acquired three of the Seattle Mariners' top five prospects for right-hander Luis Castillo last week. However, it's highly unlikely that Bieber is moved this summer at this point. The Guardians inquired about Castillo before he was traded to Seattle. The Reds could also trade infielder Brandon Drury and starting pitcher Tyler Mahle before Tuesday's deadline. Bieber, meanwhile, is having another solid year in 2022, going 5-6 with a 3.41 ERA a 1.14 WHIP, 118 strikeouts and 28 walks in 118 2/3 innings over 19 starts for the Guardians.

  • Josh Naylor Scratched With Ankle Soreness

Cleveland Guardians outfielder/first baseman Josh Naylor (ankle) was scratched from the starting lineup on Saturday against the Tampa Bay Rays due to right ankle soreness. Naylor also missed the game on Friday, and fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. The 25-year-old has been a solid contributor this year, slashing .282/.332/.514 with an .846 OPS, 14 home runs, 53 RBI, 32 runs scored and two stolen bases, so hopefully he's not out for long. Owen Miller is now starting at the cold corner and hitting cleanup against Rays right-hander Corey Kluber. Miller is in a great lineup spot to produce counting stats in DFS, but he's also hitting just .222 (6-for-27) with no homers and two RBI in the last two weeks of action.

  • Austin Hedges Resting Saturday

Cleveland Guardians catcher Austin Hedges is not in the starting lineup on Saturday against the Tampa Bay Rays. Hedges is hitting just .172/.235/.278 on the season with six home runs, 18 RBI, 16 runs scored and a stolen base in 180 at-bats, so he hasn't been of much help to fantasy managers, even in two-catcher leagues. It's the second time in the last three games that he'll start on the bench. Luke Maile will do the catching on Saturday and is hitting eighth against Rays right-hander Corey Kluber. Maile hasn't been much better than Hedges on the year, going 18-for-98 (.188) with no home runs and six RBI in 42 games. Avoid Maile in DFS.

  • Aaron Civale To Throw Off Mound Sunday

Cleveland Guardians right-hander Aaron Civale (wrist) is scheduled to throw off of a mound on Sunday. Civale has been sidelined since July 13 after he sprained his right wrist but he has reportedly responded well to an anti-inflammatory injection. The 27-year-old could be ramping up for a rehab assignment assuming his mound work on Sunday goes smoothly. He has struggled in 2022, posting a 2-5 record, 6.17 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, and 52 strikeouts over 54 innings of work.

  • Zach Plesac On Phillies' Radar

Cleveland Guardians starting pitcher Zach Plesac is on the radar of the Philadelphia Phillies, who are seeking a starter, a center fielder and presumably help for their bullpen with Tuesday's trade deadline looming. The New York Yankees, Chicago White Sox, Minnesota Twins, St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Dodgers, Toronto Blue Jays, Milwaukee Brewers and Seattle Mariners are other contending teams looking for rotation help. Plesac is currently 2-8 this year with a 4.09 ERA (4.18 FIP) and a 1.26 WHIP with 72 strikeouts and 26 walks in 99 innings over 18 starts. The 27-year-old right-handed has struggled in four July starts, allowing 11 earned runs on 22 hits while walking six and fanning 15 in 19 2/3 frames.

  • Oscar Gonzalez Begins Rehab Assignment Tuesday

Cleveland Guardians outfielder Oscar Gonzalez (intercostal) began a rehab assignment at Double-A Akron on Tuesday. He made three plate appearances in his first game and went 0-for-2 with a walk. Gonzalez has been out since late June due to a mild intercostal strain. The 24-year-old has experienced his first taste of the majors this year and the results have been mostly good thus far. Over 32 games, he's slashed .285/.315/.431 with two home runs, 12 doubles, 14 RBI and 12 runs. He hit 31 homers and slugged .542 in the high minors last year, so he certainly has some untapped power potential. If he were to tap into that power in the majors, he'd become a much more enticing fantasy asset.

  • Jose Ramirez Getting A Breather On Sunday

Cleveland Guardians third baseman Jose Ramirez is getting the day off on Sunday as the team closes out its four-game series against the Chicago White Sox. Ernie Clement will be covering third base and batting seventh in the game. Ramirez is in the midst of yet another standout season. He's currently second in the American League in RBI with 78, trailing Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees by just one RBI. Ramirez has maintained a career-best 9.8% strikeout rate this year, which ranks in the 99th percentile of the league. He owns a .287/.362/.570 slash line across the season to go along with 19 home runs and 13 stolen bases.

  • Andres Gimenez Smacks 11th Homer

Cleveland Guardians infielder Andres Gimenez smacked his 11th home run of the season Friday, a two-run shot off of Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Lucas Giolito. Gimenez went 2-for-5 in the game. He has been a revelation for Cleveland this season, slashing .304/.362/.492 with 34 runs scored, 45 RBI, and seven stolen bases. While fantasy managers may have initially picked him up for his speed upside, Gimenez has proven himself to be an all-around contributor for the Guardians and fantasy managers alike.

  • Josh Naylor Not Starting In Game 1

Cleveland Guardians first baseman/outfielder Josh Naylor is not in the starting lineup for Game 1 of a doubleheader against the Chicago White Sox on Saturday. Naylor is getting a normal day of rest and should return to the starting lineup for the second game of the doubleheader. The 25-year-old left-handed slugger is having a very impressive season to this point, hitting .276/.329/.509 with an .838 OPS, 13 home runs, 50 RBI, 29 runs scored and a stolen base in 228 at-bats. Owen Miller is taking over at first base and hitting sixth against White Sox right-hander Johnny Cueto in Game 1. Miller is hitting .333 (7-for-21) in eight games over the last two weeks, but he also has only four home runs on the season in 275 at-bats for Cleveland.
