  • Miguel Cabrera Plans To Retire After 2023 Season

Detroit Tigers first baseman/designated hitter Miguel Cabrera said that he has no intention of retiring after this year. His plan is to finish out his contract and retire after the 2023 season. Cabrera's numbers at the plate are certainly in decline in his age-39 season this year, as he's hitting .268/.317/.332 with a .650 OPS, only four home runs, 36 RBI, 23 runs scored and one stolen base in 356 plate appearances over 91 games. The 12-time All-Star and future Hall of Famer isn't much of an option in fantasy at this point of his career, and he'll attempt to make it through one more season in 2023 before ending his amazing career. Miggy is currently battling some knee pain and will play every other game for the next week.

  • Miguel Cabrera Taking The Day Off Friday

Detroit Tigers first baseman/designated hitter Miguel Cabrera (knee) is not in the starting lineup on Friday against the Tampa Bay Rays. Cabrera is battling a bum knee right now and is expected to start every other game for at least the next week. The 39-year-old future Hall of Famer is nearing the end of the road and is hitting just .268/.317/.332 with four home runs, 36 RBI, 23 runs scored and a stolen base in 325 at-bats for Detroit. With Miggy on the bench, Victor Reyes is serving as the designated hitter and will bat second on Friday against Rays right-hander Corey Kluber. Reyes is hitting only .229 (8-for-35) with three RBI in 10 games over the last two weeks, and he has just one home run on the season in 48 games played.
