  • Ke'Bryan Hayes Aggravates Left Wrist Injury

Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes (wrist) aggravated his left wrist on Wednesday night while taking swings in Detroit. He is headed back to Pittsburgh to be re-examined on Thursday. It comes just days after a report that Hayes' return was on the horizon after he joined the team's alternate training site for games. Hayes initially injured his wrist on April 3 and was placed on the injured list. He homered in his first at-bat of the season on April 1 and slashed .431/.463/.745 with a 1.208 OPS with 10 extra-base hits and nine RBI in 17 spring training games. Fantasy managers must now wait to see how much longer the 24-year-old will be out of action. Phillip Evans has stepped up in Hayes' absence and has become one of Pittsburgh's hottest bats.

  • Ke'Bryan Hayes Does Light Swinging, Still No Timetable For Return

Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes (wrist) did some light swinging against soft toss pitches on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to Kevin Gorman of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said, "Ke'Bryan is going to have to regain that confidence that he can be Ke'Bryan again on the field. ... We want him to feel confident for the remainder of the season and not just make this a short-term gain." It's an encouraging sign for managers after reports came out yesterday that Hayes had not yet resumed swinging. Hayes was eligible to be activated from the 10-day injured list on Wednesday, but there is still no timetable for his return.

  • Ke'Bryan Hayes Not Likely To Return This Week

Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes (wrist) is unlikely to be activated from the injured list tomorrow, according to The Athletic's Rob Biertempful. Hayes has been out since the second game of the season with wrist inflammation, and Biertempful reports that he has yet to start swinging a bat. Manager Derek Shelton said that the team has not made a decision yet with Hayes, but if he's still not swinging a bat yet, it's likely he'll be out for a while longer. Phillip Evans has been a good fantasy and real-life replacement for Hayes, as he is slashing .406/.457/.750 with three home runs in nine games.
