Ian Happ
  • Ian Happ Slowly Progressing

Chicago Cubs manager David Ross said on Tuesday that things are going "a little slower than anticipated" for outfielder Ian Happ (ribs). Happ collided with teammate Nico Hoerner on May 4 and exited the ballgame. He has not seen action since and was shortly placed on the 10-day injured list following the collision. Ross did say that Happ is showing improvement, but didn't offer a timetable of when he could return. With Happ sidelined and outfielder Jake Marisnick (hamstring) placed on the 10-day injured Tuesday, look for the Cubs to use a combination of infielders Matt Duffy, Eric Sogard and Ildemaro Vargas to pick up at-bats in his absence. Duffy is the most intriguing of those options with a .288 batting average to go along with seven RBI and three stolen bases. Happ had his best game of the season with three hits in his last game, but has had a rough season overall with a dismal .167 batting average to go along with two home runs, four RBI and one stolen base.

  • Ian Happ Sent To Injured List

Chicago Cubs outfielder Ian Happ (ribs) has been placed on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 4, with bruised ribs. Happ collided with teammate Nico Hoerner on Sunday and has been unavailable since. Outfielder Jake Marisnick and infielder Matt Duffy should both see an increase in playing time with Happ sidelined. Both have been hitting the ball well but are better served as DFS options at the moment. Happ has struggled this season with a .167 batting average and two home runs to go along with four RBI, but he figures to return to an everyday role when he is healthy. Outfielder Nick Martini will replace Happ on the roster and can be left on the waiver wire for now.

  • Ian Happ Remains Sidelined On Friday

Chicago Cubs outfielder Ian Happ (ribs) remains sidelined for Friday's contest versus the Pittsburgh Pirates with sore ribs. Happ has been out of the lineup since colliding with second baseman Nico Hoerner late in Sunday's game. Happ remains day-to-day and will be replaced in the lineup by infielder Matt Duffy. Duffy will play third base with Kris Bryant moving over to center field. Duffy has been hitting the ball well with six hits over his last 17 at-bats and has also swiped two bags in his last seven games. Duffy will bat sixth in a favorable matchup versus Trevor Cahill and should be looked at in DFS on Friday.

  • Ian Happ Remains Sidelined

Chicago Cubs outfielder Ian Happ (ribs) will remain sidelined on Wednesday versus the Los Angeles Dodgers. Happ suffered bruised ribs after a collision with infielder Nico Hoerner on Sunday and sat out Tuesday's doubleheader. The good news is that it doesn't appear that Happ will require a trip to the 10-day injured list. Happ remains day-to-day and will be replaced by outfielder Jake Marisnick. Marisnick is having a nice season in limited opportunities and is hitting .271 with three home runs and 12 RBI. The veteran will bat eighth on Wednesday and draws a tough matchup versus Walker Buehler.

  • Ian Happ Exits After Scary Collision

Chicago Cubs outfielder Ian Happ has left Sunday's contest in the bottom of the eighth inning. Happ and second baseman Nico Hoerner collided going after a fly ball that Hoerner would catch. Happ was down for a while and tried to walk off under his own power, but would wind up going off the field on a cart. Happ finishes the game going 3-for-5 with a three-run home run and three runs scored. More should be known on his status as the evening goes on. If Happ misses time, outfielder Jake Marisnick would be the biggest beneficiary. Marisnick can remain on the waiver wire for now. With Happ out, catcher Willson Contreras (thigh) replaced him in the lineup. Contreras has been dealing with a thigh injury, but the Cubs had no one else on their bench.
