  • Fernando Tatis Jr. To Begin Rehab Assignment Over Weekend

San Diego Padres shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. (wrist) is expected to begin a rehab assignment at Double-A San Antonio either Saturday or Sunday. Tatis is slated to see time at shortstop, center field, and designated hitter during the rehab stint. The star infielder is nearing a return to the Padres after missing the entire season thus far while recovering from surgery in March to repair a broken bone in his wrist. The Padres have yet to indicate how quickly he will be able to join the big leagues but it should be in the next week or two. Tatis joining an already loaded San Diego lineup will make the Padres' offense all the more formidable over the final two months of the regular season.

  • Fernando Tatis Jr. Could Begin Rehab Assignment This Weekend

If all goes according to plan, San Diego Padres shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. (wrist) will begin a minor league rehab assignment this weekend. He is scheduled to take live batting practice on Monday, and the Padres are still taking it day by day with him. The 23-year-old superstar is trying to return from a surgically repaired left wrist after fracturing it in a motorcycle accident in the offseason. The Friars aren't going to rush him back, meaning he could have a somewhat lengthy rehab assignment before making his 2022 season debut around the middle of August. Tatis has the ability to be a difference-maker for fantasy managers down the stretch after he hit .282/.364/.611 with a .975 OPS, a league-leading 42 home runs, 97 RBI, 99 runs scored and 25 stolen bases in just 130 games in 2021.

  • Fernando Tatis Jr. Taking On-Field Batting Practice Tuesday

San Diego Padres shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. (wrist) is taking batting practice on the field prior to the team's matchup against the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday. This is his first full on-field batting practice session. His previous session in New York over this past weekend was soft-toss. According to Padres beat writer Kevin Acee, Tatis is on track to face live pitching over the next week or so. If he can avoid any setbacks, he will go out on a rehab assignment after that. We're inching closer to the 2022 debut for the 23-year-old phenom. A mid-August return to the majors is certainly in play at this point if Tatis can remain on track.

  • Fernando Tatis Jr. Moving Closer To Rehab Assignment

San Diego Padres shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. (wrist) took on-field batting practice over the weekend at Citi Field and will do a couple of live batting practice sessions before beginning a minor league rehab assignment. The "live" sessions aren't expected to take place until the team returns to San Diego following its upcoming three-game series in Detroit against the Tigers. It means that Tatis probably won't begin a rehab assignment until early next week, and the Padres could slow down his progression at any point. But if he doesn't have any setbacks with his surgically repaired left wrist, it's possible that Tatis could make his season debut when the Padres are in Los Angeles against the division-rival Dodgers from Aug. 5-7.

  • Fernando Tatis Jr.'s Hitting Progression Going Well

San Diego Padres shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. (wrist) has been hitting in the cages and said he is going 95-100 percent and has been a little surprised with how good he's felt afterward. Tatis has yet to play this year after fracturing his wrist in a motorcycle accident in the offseason, but he's getting closer to a return and should return to the Friars lineup at some point in August. The 23-year-old superstar still needs to progress to soft toss, tee work and live pitching before going on a minor league rehab assignment, though. If he returns fully healthy, he could be a difference-maker for fantasy managers down the stretch after he hit .282/.364/.611 with a .975 OPS, a league-high 42 home runs, 97 RBI, 99 runs scored and 25 stolen bases in only 130 games in 2021.
