Jose Abreu
  • Jose Abreu Rockets Two Home Runs

Chicago White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu went 3-for-4 with two solo home runs and three RBI in Tuesday's victory versus the Cleveland Indians. Abreu has been off to a cold start this season, but manager Tony La Russa elected to give him the night off defensively and it paid off. Abreu has been on base every game this season, but is hitting a weak .221 with a .743 OPS and four home runs to go along with 14 RBI. Abreu is a career .292 hitter and managers shouldn't be concerned so early into the season. Abreu is one of the most consistent options at first base and provides power without hurting your batting average.

  • Jose Abreu Extends On-Base Streak To 16

Chicago White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu went 2-for-4 with one RBI in Saturday's loss versus the Boston Red Sox. Abreu's double in the top of the first inning extended his on-base streak to 16 games, dating back to the 2020 season. Last year's American League MVP has been getting on base, but is only hitting .208 on the season with two home runs and 10 RBI. Despite getting being on base in every game this season, managers would like to see Abreu get some more hits. Managers shouldn't worry about the low batting with Abreu owning a career .293 batting average. Abreu remains one of the most consistent first baseman in the league and offers a strong batting average to go along with good power numbers.

  • Jose Abreu On 11-Game On-Base Streak

Chicago White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu has reached base in each of his 11 games so far this year. He's slashing .209/.314/.372 with two home runs, seven walks, nine RBI and five runs. His current walk rate (13.7%) is nearly double where it was last year (6.9%), but he's also striking out at a significantly higher rate so far this year (31.4%) than last year (22.5%). He isn't making as much hard contact through the early going this year. He's registered barrels on just two of his 28 batted balls so far, leading to a 7.1% barrel rate which is well below last year's 14.3% clip. Abreu was one of the league's best all-around hitters in 2020 and should have another big year ahead. Expect to see his hard contact numbers increase exponentially throughout the year.
