    Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen (elbow) is dealing with "very minor" right elbow soreness in spring training, and the team doesn't think the injury is significant. "Out of an abundance of caution, we're taking it very slow with Andrew," director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said. The Pirates aren't too concerned, but it's something to watch for the 36-year-old as he enters the twilight of his career with the organization that he spent the first nine seasons of his career with. McCutchen is hitting just .235 (4-for-17) with no homers or RBI, one run scored and seven strikeouts in eight Grapefruit League games. If healthy, he's expected to see most of the playing time in right field for the rebuilding Bucs in 2023.

Back with Pittsburgh, McCutchen is expected to open the 2023 regular season as the team's primary right fielder, which will give him appeal in deep mixed and NL-only leagues. The 36-year-old is far removed from his prime, and his power took a big drop in 2022 with the Milwaukee Brewers. Even with the rebuilding Bucs, there's a chance McCutchen could become a platoon player eventually this year.

McCutchen is no longer in his prime, but he's expected to be Pittsburgh's starting right fielder to open the 2023 season after spending his first nine MLB seasons with the team, including five straight All-Star seasons from 2011-15. It's no secret that the 36-year-old is in decline after slashing .237/.316/.384 with a career-low .700 OPS, 17 home runs, 69 RBI, 66 runs scored and eight stolen bases in 580 plate appearances and 134 games for the Brewers in 2022. A move to the rebuilding Pirates will further drop McCutchen's 2023 fantasy value.

The veteran outfielder was hit by a pitch in the left hand, which forced the team to remove him from the game due to discomfort. It seems like the Pirates pulled McCutchen as a precaution, but the expectation is that he'll still get X-rays on his hand.
