  • Mitch White Recalled From Triple-A, Will Start Saturday

Toronto Blue Jays right-handed pitcher Mitch White has been recalled from Triple-A Buffalo, according to an announcement from the club. Assuming the bad weather holds off, he'll start against Minnesota on Saturday. White was acquired from Los Angeles at the trade deadline after throwing 11.2 scoreless innings for the Dodgers' Triple-A affiliate, and he has also looked solid through 15 outings in the majors. White reported to the Blue Jays' Triple-A club in Buffalo but didn't appear in a game, so Saturday's start represents his debut in the Jays organization.

The Phillies have released outfielder Odubel Herrera and right-hander Jeurys Familia.  Righty Ryan Sherriff has also been outrighted to Triple-A.  All three players were designated for assignment earlier this week. • Kirby Yates To Make Another Rehab Start On Sunday

Atlanta Braves reliever Kirby Yates (elbow) is set to make another rehab start on Sunday at Triple-A Gwinnett, according to manager Brian Snitker. The 35-year-old righty made back-to-back hitless appearances earlier this week and didn't sustain any setbacks. He'll likely need a few more rehab outings before joining the Braves' bullpen later this month. Once he arrives with the club he figures to work in a setup/high-leverage role for Atlanta.

  • Mike Mayers Has Contract Purchased

Los Angeles Angels relief pitcher Mike Mayers has had his contract selected from Triple-A Salt Lake and will join the team's 40-man roster. The 30-year-old righty was outrighted to the minors back in early June but has now made his way back to the majors. He posted a poor 5.40 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, and 14:6 K/BB ratio over 16 2/3 innings (15 appearances) earlier this season. He'll add some depth to the Los Angeles bullpen but doesn't offer a whole lot of fantasy value.

  • Art Warren Starts Rehab Assignment On Saturday

Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Art Warren (forearm) is starting a rehab assignment on Saturday at Triple-A Louisville. The 29-year-old reliever has been dealing with a right flexor pronator strain in his right arm since the beginning of July. He'll get a few minor league games under his belt before joining the Reds sometime in mid-August. Warren put together a rough 6.91 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, and 30:15 K/BB ratio across 28 2/3 innings of relief before going down. Despite his struggles, he did notch three saves and four holds and figures to be in the mix for high-leverage situations once he returns to action.

  • Devin Williams Saves Seventh Game

Milwaukee Brewers relief pitcher Devin Williams inherited at least an increased share of the closer role when Josh Hader was dealt to the San Diego Padres, and he locked down his seventh game against the Cincinnati Reds on Friday, striking out both batters he faced. Williams has pitched in three consecutive games since being promoted, and each of his last two outings have been much more steady than his first opportunity since the trade deadline when he was charged with a blown save. He now has a 1.74 ERA and 1.02 WHIP with 68 strikeouts in 41 1/3 innings this year and should be rostered in all formats.

  • Clay Holmes Blows Another Save

New York Yankees relief pitcher Clay Holmes had another rough outing Friday night, allowing two runs on two hits and a walk in an inning of work, blowing his fourth save of the year and earning his third loss in the process. Holmes struck out two batters. He still has a very strong 2.12 ERA and 0.96 WHIP on the year, but patience could run out quickly if Holmes doesn't right the ship in short order. Aroldis Chapman is lurking as another option to close out games, but fantasy managers should hold onto Holmes for the time being.

  • Ryan Helsley Reaches 10 Saves

St. Louis Cardinals relief pitcher Ryan Helsley saved his 10th game of the year Friday night, shutting down the New York Yankees to secure a 4-3 victory. He allowed no hits and one walk and did not strike out a batter. Helsley is having a charmed season, recording a 0.61 ERA and 0.63 WHIP with 66 strikeouts in 44 1/3 innings. He has allowed an earned run in only two of his 36 appearances all year. Fantasy managers who picked him up off the waiver wire early this season have been handsomely rewarded.

  • Mark Melancon Out As Closer, Arizona Going With Committee

Arizona Diamondbacks skipper Torey Lovullo said that the team will go with a closer-by-committee approach moving forward, which means right-hander Mark Melancon and his 4.66 ERA will be demoted from the ninth inning for the foreseeable future. The 37-year-old veteran is also 3-10 with a 1.58 WHIP, 14 saves, 26 strikeouts and 13 walks in 36 2/3 innings pitched this year. He'll likely work in low-leverage situations for the time being, with some combination of veteran Ian Kennedy, Joe Mantiply and Kyle Nelson factoring into the committee approach. Kennedy had the team's most recent save on Tuesday and has a 3.15 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, five saves and 32 K's in 34 1/3 innings this year. He's probably your best bet if you're speculating on saves in Arizona.

  • Rockies Claim Dinelson Lamet Off Waivers

The Colorado Rockies claimed right-hander Dinelson Lamet off waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday. Lamet was shipped to the Milwaukee Brewers in the trade that sent closer Josh Hader to the San Diego Padres on Monday, but the Brewers designated Lamet for assignment on Wednesday due to a crowded bullpen at the major league level. The Rockies have decided to scoop him up, bringing him back to the National League West. The 30-year-old was once a promising starting pitcher, but injuries have moved him to a bullpen role the last two years, and he has struggled to a 9.49 ERA, a 2.03 WHIP and a 16:9 K:BB in only 12 1/3 innings in 2022. Lamet will have a new opportunity in Colorado, but for now he's well off the fantasy radar.

  • Dennis Santana Placed On The Injured List

Texas Rangers pitcher Dennis Santana (ankle) was placed on the 15-day injured list with a left ankle sprain Thursday. The move is retroactive to August 3, and he will miss at least the next two weeks. He owns a 5.09 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and a 33:18 K: BB over 40 2/3 innings in 2022. The Rangers bullpen takes another hit as both Joe Barlow (finger) and Santana are now on the injured list. Cole Ragans was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock in a corresponding move. The 24-year-old owned posted a 3.32 ERA, and 1.07 WHIP in 43.1 innings over eight Triple-A starts. Ragans is a speculative add in deep-league formats.

  • Drew VerHagen To Have Season-Ending Hip Surgery

St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Drew VerHagen (hip) will have season-ending hip surgery shortly, according to a team official. VerHagen injured his hip in April and won't make it back for the rest of the 2022 season. The 31-year-old had signed a two-year, $5.5 million deal with St. Louis in free agency. He'll end the season with just 21 2/3 innings under his belt in 19 relief outings, posting a 6.65 ERA, 1.89 WHIP, 18 strikeouts and 14 walks for the Red Birds. VerHagen wasn't on the fantasy radar to begin with.

  • Jorge Lopez Closes Out First Game With Twins

Minnesota Twins reliever Jorge Lopez recorded his 20th save of the season Wednesday against the Detroit Tigers and his first since being traded from the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday. The first-time All-Star is having a career year after switching to the bullpen this season and owns a 1.64 ERA and 0.95 WHIP with 55 strikeouts over 49.1 innings. The save signals that Lopez will maintain his closer role, leaving the rest of the high-leverage arms in the Twins bullpen, including Jhoan Duran, in a setup role.

  • David Robertson Records Save On Wednesday

Philadelphia Phillies relief pitcher David Robertson was asked to take the ball in the ninth inning on Wednesday. The veteran right-hander was acquired by the Phillies through a trade with the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday. Manager Rob Thompson mentioned that Robertson might not get save chances right away in Philly. Well, that was not the case as Robertson came out for the save during Wednesday's contest. He struck out two batters and earned himself his 15th save of the season. The expectation is that Robertson will continue to get save chances in Philly going forward.

  • David Bednar Placed On Injured List

The Pittsburgh Pirates placed closer David Bednar (back) on the 15-day injured list on Wednesday and recalled right-hander Yohan Ramirez from Triple-A Indianapolis in a corresponding move. The team also recalled infielder Tucupita Marcano from Indianapolis and designated infielder Yoshi Tsutsugo for assignment. Bednar was unavailable for a save chance on Tuesday against the Milwaukee Brewers, and as a result, Wil Crowe came on for his third save of the year. Yerry De Los Santos could see a save chance or two while Bednar is sidelined as well, but Crowe should be the target for those chasing saves. Bednar deserves to be stashed in all fantasy formats while he's on the shelf, as he's recorded 17 saves to go along with a 2.70 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 63:14 K:BB in 46 2/3 innings for the Bucs in 2022.

  • Dinelson Lamet Designated For Assignment

The Milwaukee Brewers designated right-hander Dinelson Lamet and catcher Pedro Severino for assignment on Wednesday. Lamet was just acquired by the Brewers in the trade that sent left-handed closer Josh Hader to the San Diego Padres on Monday. Milwaukee likes Lamet, but their bullpen is extremely crowded at the major league level, even after trading Hader away. The Brew Crew also traded for veteran relievers Matt Bush and Trevor Rosenthal in recent days. If Lamet goes unclaimed on waivers, the Brewers will be able to keep him in the organization at Triple-A Nashville. Moved to the bullpen because of injuries by the Padres the last two years, Lamet allowed 13 earned runs on 16 hits in just 12 1/3 relief innings for the Friars this year before being traded to Milwaukee.

  • Tanner Rainey Undergoes Tommy John Surgery

Washington Nationals relief pitcher Tanner Rainey (elbow) underwent Tommy John surgery on Wednesday. We already knew there was a pretty good chance that Rainey would miss the rest of the season with a UCL injury to his right elbow, but now it's official after the surgery. The 29-year-old will now miss the majority of the 2023 season as well as he recovers from elbow reconstruction. Rainey was solid for the Nats in 29 relief appearances in 2022 before his injury, posting a 3.30 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, 12 saves and 36 strikeouts in 30 innings pitched. Kyle Finnegan is now the team's primary closer, but he's a low-end fantasy closing option on the worst team in baseball, especially after they just traded away superstar outfielder Juan Soto and first baseman Josh Bell on Tuesday.

  • Kenley Jansen Will Remain Braves' Primary Closer

Atlanta Braves skipper Brian Snitker said that relief pitcher Kenley Jansen will continue to serve as the team's primary closer, but the newly acquired Raisel Iglesias is the secondary closer. Jansen is only on a one-year deal with Atlanta, while Iglesias is signed through the 2025 season. Jansen's fantasy managers were likely very uneasy when the Braves made the move to acquire Iglesias from the Los Angeles Angels at Tuesday's trade deadline, but for now, Jansen will remain the team's primary fireman. The 34-year-old right-hander has struggled at times this year, but he's been better of late and has a 3.43 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, 54 strikeouts and a healthy 24 saves in 39 1/3 innings in 2022. Iglesias might pick up a save chance here or there if Jansen needs a break, but it looks like his fantasy value will take a hit with the move to Atlanta the rest of this season.

  • Andres Munoz Escapes With Second Save Of Season Tuesday

Seattle Mariners relief pitcher Andres Munoz didn't make things easy but did pick up his second save of the season in Tuesday's 8-6 win over the Yankees. Munoz entered to pitch the ninth inning up by two. He got the first two hitters out on strikeouts, but then allowed a single and back-to-back walks before striking out the final hitter with the bases loaded. Paul Sewald has served as the primary closer this season for the Mariners, but he pitched the seventh inning of this game, likely because of the close score. Munoz does have a 3.02 ERA with a 13.39 K/9 rate and 13 holds through 41 2/3 innings pitched this season, but Sewald is the clear arm to roster for fantasy purposes.

  • Ian Kennedy Earns Fifth Save Of Season Tuesday

Arizona Diamondbacks relief pitcher Ian Kennedy picked up his fifth save of the season in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Guardians. Kennedy came in to pitch the ninth inning with a 3-run lead and struck out the side to end the game. Mark Melancon has served as the team's primary closer this season, but he pitched 1 2/3 innings in Monday's game. Kennedy has pitched better than Melancon but has had his own struggles, converting only five of eight save opportunities with a 3.15 ERA. Kennedy is worth a look in deeper roto leagues, but it seems that Melancon is still the arm to roster in fantasy for managers chasing saves at this time.

  • Jordan Romano Allows Homer But Earns Save Tuesday

Toronto Blue Jays closer Jordan Romano did not have the cleanest outing but did pick up his 25th save of the season in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Rays. Romano entered to pitch the ninth inning with a three-run lead. He allowed a leadoff solo home run to Taylor Walls but then got the next three hitters out on a groundout, strikeout, and flyout. Romano has been excellent overall this season, converting all but three save opportunities with a 2.50 ERA.

  • Gregory Soto Notches 20th Save Of Season Tuesday

Detroit Tigers closer Gregory Soto picked up his 20th save of the season in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Twins. Soto came in to end the game with a two-run lead and delivered a 1-2-3 inning with no strikeouts. The 27-year-old has been solid all season, converting all but two save opportunities with a 2.19 ERA, 9.24 K/9 rate, and 3.89 BB/9 rate. Fantasy managers should feel comfortable having Soto in their lineups at all times.

  • Jose Quijada Earns Save For Angels Tuesday

Los Angeles Angels relief pitcher Jose Quijada got the first shot at a save after the team traded away closer Raisel Iglesias in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Athletics. Quijada came in to pitch the ninth inning with a two-run lead and turned in a 1-2-3 outing with no strikeouts, picking up his second save of the season. With Iglesias gone, it remains to be seen how the Angels will approach save situations for the rest of the season, although they may not see that many. Quijada has a solid 3.15 ERA with a 10.80 K/9 rate through 20 innings pitched this season, but he also has a high 5.40 BB/9 rate. With several other veteran relievers in the bullpen, fantasy managers should wait to see what approach the Angels take. That said, Ryan Tepera or Archie Bradley seem like better speculative adds, as both have had past closing experience.

  • Tanner Houck Notches Eighth Save Of Season Tuesday

Boston Red Sox relief pitcher Tanner Houck picked up his eighth save of the season in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Astros. Houck came on to end the game with a one-run lead and delivered a 1-2-3 inning with no strikeouts. It was his second consecutive save and he now has a 3.15 ERA with just one blown save this season. The Red Sox have used a number of relief pitchers in save situations this season, but Houck appears to be the arm to roster in fantasy for the time being.

  • David Bednar Bothered By Lower Back Tuesday

Pittsburgh Pirates manager Derek Shelton said Tuesday that closer David Bednar (back) was bothered by his lower back, which was why he was not available in a 5-3 win over the Brewers. Wil Crowe instead came in to convert his third save of the season. Shelton said that the team will use the next couple of days to determine if Bednar will need a stint on the injured list. It would be a shame for the Pirates and fantasy managers if Bednar were to miss any time, as he has converted 17 of 21 save opportunities this season with a 2.70 ERA. Fantasy managers in need of saves could look to Crowe if Bednar misses time, as he has seen the second most save opportunities for the Pirates.

  • Michael Fulmer Moved To Twins

Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Michael Fulmer has been traded to the Minnesota Twins. This adds on to the already big day for the Twins. The Tigers will receive right-hander Sawyer Gipson-Long in exchange for Fulmer. This season, Fulmer has a 3.20 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, and 39/20 K/BB ratio through 39.3 innings of work. The additions of Fulmer and Jorge Lopez should hopefully be a significant upgrade to Minnesota's bullpen. As for Detroit, they receive a fairly decent arm in Gipson-Long. He has pitched well in High-A and will hopefully move quickly through the minor league system.

  • Mychal Givens Gets Traded To Mets

Chicago Cubs relief pitcher Mychal Givens is headed to the New York Mets. The two sides have agreed on a trade that will send Givens to New York and pitcher Saul Gonzalez to the Cubs. Givens is posting a 2.66 ERA with two saves and 51/19 K/BB ratio through 40.7 innings in Chicago. This move helps bolster the Mets bullpen as they continue to fight for a playoff spot. He should continue to work in high leverage spots, but his fantasy value isn't expected to change. Gonzalez has pitched well in St. Lucie this season, but isn't someone who is near MLB ready. These deadline moves for Chicago leaves Rowan Wick as the favorite for saves through the rest of the season.

  • Raisel Iglesias Moved To Braves

Los Angeles Angels closer Raisel Iglesias has been traded to the Atlanta Braves. This is another last minute trade deadline move as the Braves look to bolster their bullpen. In exchange for Iglesias, the Angels will receive pitchers Jesse Chavez and Tucker Davidson. This season, Iglesias holds a 4.04 ERA with 48/9 K/BB ratio and 16 saves through 35.7 innings. This move will most likely hurt Iglesias considering he won't be the closer in Atlanta. He'll likely still pitch in high leverage spots, but it might not always be the ninth inning. As for the Angels, they get two MLB arms to immediately help their roster. Chavez has a 2.66 ERA through 44 games and Davidson has struggled this season, but shown flashes during his career. The expectation is that both of them will be on the Angels roster right away.

The 37-year-old was the Cubbies closer before the trade, posting a strong 2.23 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 14 saves and 51 strikeouts in his 40 1/3 innings of work. In Philadelphia, Seranthony Dominguez and lefty Brad Hand have been sharing closing duties, but it remains to be seen if Robertson will be given the majority of save chances in his new home or if he'll be part of an ongoing committee for saves. His fantasy outlook for the rest of the season could receive a boost on a contending team.

  • Blue Jays Discussing Noah Syndergaard, Raisel Iglesias

The Toronto Blue Jays are talking to the Los Angeles Angels about starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard and closer Raisel Iglesias with the trade deadline approaching on Tuesday. The Philadelphia Phillies have also been linked to Syndergaard, but general manager Dave Dombrowski isn't often a buyer of rental players like Thor. Syndergaard has been solid in his first year with the Angels, posting a 3.83 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP with a 64:22 K:BB in 80 innings over his 15 starts, but he has struggled to get run support from the lowly Angels offense. That probably wouldn't be as much of a problem in Toronto. Iglesias has a 4.04 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, 16 saves and 48 strikeouts in 35 2/3 innings as the Halos closer, but he'd become a top-end setup arm in Toronto in front of closer Jordan Roman if he was dealt to the Jays.

Bass has been excellent this year, posting a 1.41 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 45:10 K:BB in 44 2/3 innings, but his fantasy value won't change all that much in a setup role in Toronto. Pop has been solid but not spectacular, going 2-0 with a 3.60 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 14 strikeouts in 20 relief innings for the Fish.

The Minnesota Twins are finalizing a deal to acquire closer Jorge Lopez from the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday in exchange for left-hander Cade Povich, right-handed reliever Yennier Cano and more prospects from the Complex League, according to sources. The Twins had been using a committee approach to the ninth inning this year, but Lopez will presumably step right in as the club's new closer after the trade. The 29-year-old right-hander was excellent with Baltimore this year, posting a 1.68 ERA and a 0.97 WHIP with 19 saves, 54 strikeouts and only 17 walks in 48 1/3 innings. Lopez's fantasy value increases with the deal to the first-place Twins. Back in Baltimore, Felix Bautista should be first in line for save chances with Lopez no longer around.

Waldichuk stands at 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds and has a 3.59 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 70 strikeouts in 47 2/3 innings over 11 starts at Triple-A in 2022. Medina has elite raw stuff on the mound, but his command has been lacking, and he's likely to surface as a reliever in the big leagues. Sears is more of a control artist and has a 2.05 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 15 K's in 22 innings in the majors this year. Bowman is best known for his speed.

  • Yankees Acquire Frankie Montas, Lou Trivino From A's

The New York Yankees acquired starting pitcher Frankie Montas and relief pitcher Lou Trivino from the Oakland Athletics on Monday. Per MLB.com's Mark Feinsand, the Yankees are sending left-hander Ken Waldichuk (their No. 5 prospect), right-hander Luis Medina (No. 10), left-hander JP Sears (No. 20) and second baseman Cooper Bowman (No. 21) to the A's. Montas became the Yankees' top trade target after the Seattle Mariners landed right-hander Luis Castillo from the Reds last weekend. The 29-year-old's fantasy stock will only rise with the move to the first-place Yankees. He is currently 4-9 with a 3.18 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, 109 strikeouts and 28 walks in 104 2/3 innings over 19 starts. Trivino, who has a 6.47 ERA, 1.87 WHIP and 10 saves for the A's in 32 innings, is unlikely to see many save chances in a bullpen that includes Clay Holmes as the primary ninth-inning option.

  • Mets, White Sox Looking At Andrew Chafin

The New York Mets and Chicago White Sox are among the teams looking to add a left-handed reliever at the trade deadline, and Detroit Tigers left-hander Andrew Chafin is of interest to both teams, according to sources. He's owed the rest of his $6 million salary this year and $7 million in 2023. The 32-year-old veteran southpaw has been very solid for the Tigers in relief this year, posting a 2.53 ERA and 1.06 WHIP while striking out 39 and walking just 10 hitters in 32 innings of work out of Detroit's bullpen. Chafin has also recorded one save, although he wouldn't be in line for ninth-inning duties with either the Mets or White Sox.

According to a tweet from ESPN's Jeff Passan on Monday, the Milwaukee Brewers are reportedly acquiring relief pitcher Taylor Rogers along with fellow reliever Dinelson Lamet, pitching prospect Robert Gasser and outfield prospect Esteury Ruiz in exchange for relief pitcher Josh Hader. Rogers has converted 28 saves for the Padres this season, but has struggled as of late, giving up 20 hits, 11 earned runs, and a pair of walks in his last 11.1 innings of work. Devin Williams, who has pitched to a 1.59 ERA, a 1.31 FIP, 66 strikeouts and 19 walks in 39.2 innings this season, would appear to be a better choice to take over at closer.

  • Brewers Listening On Josh Hader

The Milwaukee Brewers are again listening to offers for closer Josh Hader, although the conversations might be little more than due diligence. But the Brewers' motivation to trade Hader might be increasing as they head toward their fifth straight playoff appearance. The left-hander's $11 million salary likely will increase to the $16 million range in 2023 in his final year of arbitration before becoming a free agent. His preference to limit his appearances to one inning restricts his value to the team, especially in the playoffs. Devin Williams has 30 straight scoreless appearances and could replace Hader seamlessly as the team's closer. Trading the 28-year-old Hader would only make sense for Milwaukee if they could acquire a hitter they desire in return.

  • Luis Garcia Secures First Save On Sunday

San Diego Padres pitcher Luis Garcia struck out one over a scoreless inning to earn the save in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Minnesota Twins. He entered the game in the ninth inning to protect a one-run lead. The 35-year-old received the first save opportunity with the recent news of incumbent closer Taylor Rogers "getting a little bit of a break" from closing duties. Garcia tossed a perfect inning on Sunday, recording his first save of the year. The veteran right-hander owns a 3.23 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, and a 42:12 K: BB across 39 innings in 2022. After his recent struggles, Rogers will likely be eased back into the closer role. This counts as his third blown save of the season as his command continues to escape him. It's unlikely that the Yankees are going to pull him from the closer job. Fantasy managers should expect Holmes to bounce back from this. He might get a day or two off, but should remain as the closer in New York.

He has now recorded a save in back-to-back opportunities. The right-hander is 2-for-2 in save chances, posting a 5.40 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, and six strikeouts over five innings. Multiple teams are interested in Bard as a rental piece, but the Rockies think they have a good chance to re-sign him. He's been excellent this year with a 1.91 ERA and 21 saves. Cron is the team's best player, and the Rockies see him helping them contend in the future. Shortstop Jose Iglesias and right-hander Chad Kuhl are also unlikely to be dealt by Tuesday, while it's possible the team parts ways with veteran reliever Alex Colome, who can give contending teams an experienced relief arm.

Before his injury, Jimenez was the team's primary closer in Oakland, so he should return to the ninth-inning role once he's ready. There's a chance he'll be reinstated from the injured list at some point this weekend. Before his injury, the 28-year-old had a 4.38 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 11 saves and 23 strikeouts in 24 2/3 relief innings in 2022. Lou Trivino has been filling in as the A's closer with Jimenez out.

  • Connor Brogdon Gets First Save Of The Season

Philadelphia Phillies relief pitcher Connor Brogdon was asked to take the ball during the 10th inning of Friday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Phillies didn't have too many options left with Seranthony Dominguez, Brad Hand, and Jose Alvarado being used already in this contest. That being said, Brogdon was given the chance to close out the game with a two-run lead. He did a fine job, allowing no hits and striking out one batter in the win. It was his first save of the season, but it's surprising he hasn't been given more chances with how well he has pitched this season. The right-hander currently holds a 2.05 ERA through 24 appearances. Possibly, Brogdon gets more high leverage spots down the road, but he can continue to be ignored in most fantasy formats right now.

He has now converted 13 of 17 save opportunities with a 4.32 ERA, a 12.74 K/9 rate, and a 6.05 BB/9 rate. He is still worth a look in deeper roto leagues, but his fantasy value could drop if he has another stretch of poor pitching or gets traded into a lower-leverage role.

  • Kenley Jansen Enters Late For 23rd Save Tuesday

Atlanta Braves closer Kenley Jansen came in to save the day in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Phillies. Jansen entered the bottom of the ninth inning up by three with one out and a runner on first. He was able to prevent the Phillies from fighting back further by getting the two batters he faced out on a flyout and a groundout, earning his 23rd save of the season. The 34-year-old has been a reliable fantasy option this season, converting all but four save opportunities with a 3.62 ERA and a 12.05 K/9 rate.

  • Edwin Diaz Earns Four-Out Save Tuesday

New York Mets closer Edwin Diaz pitched well in an exciting 6-3 win over the Yankees Tuesday. Diaz came into the game in the eighth inning with two outs and a runner on first with a two-run lead, striking out Joey Gallo to end the half-inning. He stayed in to pitch the ninth inning, allowing a leadoff single before getting another strikeout, allowing Aaron Judge to reach on his own throwing error, and then getting the final two outs on strikeouts. Diaz has been a fantasy stud once again this season and now has 22 saves to go with a 1.55 ERA.

  • Josh Hader Pitches Scoreless Ninth, Earns Win Tuesday

Milwaukee Brewers closer Josh Hader earned his first win of the season in Tuesday's 7-6 win over the Twins. Hader came in to pitch the top of the ninth inning with the game tied 6-6 and delivered a 1-2-3 inning with no strikeouts. The Twins were able to bring a run home in the bottom half of the inning, making Hader the winning pitcher of record. His outing will come as a relief to fantasy managers, as the stud closer had allowed at least one run in six of his previous nine outings in the month of July. Consequently, his ERA has ballooned to 4.36. However, he has 28 saves to go with a 15.27 K/9 rate. He was drafted as a top fantasy closer and should be treated as such, despite the recent rough patch.

  • Liam Hendriks Battles High Altitude Tuesday, Earns Save

Chicago White Sox closer Liam Hendriks picked up a shaky 19th save of the season in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Rockies. Hendriks came in to pitch the ninth inning up by two. He allowed a leadoff solo home run, got the next two hitters out on a strikeout and groundout, walked a batter, and got the final out on a groundout. Coors Field is always difficult to succeed in for pitchers, and White Sox beat writer Daryl Van Schouwen reported that Hendriks has felt ill pitching at high altitudes in the past. The 33-year-old has been a solid fantasy option this season, but he hasn't been as elite as he has been. He has now converted all but three save opportunities with a 3.48 ERA and a 13.10 K/9 rate.

  • Jorge Lopez Earns 19th Save Of Season Tuesday

Baltimore Orioles closer Jorge Lopez secured his 19th save of the season in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Rays. Lopez came in to pitch the ninth inning with a two-run lead. He allowed a leadoff single, but then got three outs on two forceouts and a groundout. Lopez and the O's in general have been fantasy surprises this season. He has now converted all but four save opportunities with a 1.55 ERA and a 10.10 K/9 rate. Lopez should continue to be a fantasy asset in all leagues given how well he has pitched, especially if the O's continue to play competitive baseball.

  • Diamondbacks Select Chris Devenski

The Diamondbacks selected reliever Chris Devenski onto the major league roster shortly before tonight’s game against the Giants. Keynan Middleton was placed on the 15-day injured list with a right ankle strain. Arizona already had a vacancy on the 40-man roster. If he gets into a game, it’ll be the first big league action of the year…

  • Anthony Bender Set For Rehab Outing Tuesday

Miami Marlins relief pitcher Anthony Bender (back) will reportedly make a rehab appearance for the organization's Double-A affiliate on Tuesday. Bender is currently on the 60-day injured list and most recently pitched in the Majors on May 18 in an appearance against the Washington Nationals. So far this season, the right-hander has pitched to a 4.50 ERA and a 5.34 FIP in 14 innings for the Marlins. He's also logged six saves, though, at the moment, Tanner Scott has taken over as Miami's closer. Due to Scott's emergence, Bender might only have fantasy value in deeper leagues where holds are part of the scoring when he returns from the injured list.

  • Cubs, Mets Have Discussed Willson Contreras, David Robertson

According to an article from Pat Ragazzo of Sports Illustrated's Fan Nation, the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets reportedly "have had ongoing discussions about a potential trade package for catcher Willson Contreras and relief pitcher David Robertson that would see New York send multiple top prospects to Chicago." Contreras has, so far, enjoyed a strong season at the plate, batting .258 with a .374 on-base percentage, 14 home runs, and three stolen bases in 353 plate appearances. Meanwhile, Robertson has pitched to a 1.83 ERA, a 3.25 FIP, 50 strikeouts, 19 walks, and 14 saves in 39.1 innings spanning 35 appearances for the Cubs.

  • Kyle Finnegan Converts His Second Straight Save Monday

Washington Nationals relief pitcher Kyle Finnegan earned his second save in as many days on Monday, when he closed out the team's 4-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers. He pitched a scoreless ninth inning in the game, allowing one hit and no walks while striking out one. The 30-year-old has allowed just four hits, two walks and two earned runs across 9.1 innings this month. He certainly looks like the clear closer for the Nationals after earning saves on two straight days. While we'd hesitate to label any closer of a 33-65 team a "must-add," Finnegan is certainly someone who should be rostered in any league where saves are scarce and highly-coveted.

  • Daniel Bard Escapes With 21st Save Monday

Colorado Rockies closer Daniel Bard managed to navigate an interesting ninth inning to earn his 21st save of the season in Monday's 2-0 win over the Brewers. Bard entered the game to preserve a two-run lead. He allowed a leadoff single, then another runner reached on a fielding error. Bard got the next two hitters out on flyouts, then walked the bases loaded before getting the final out on a loud lineout to second base. While this outing wasn't the cleanest, Bard has been a reliable fantasy option this season, converting all but two save opportunities with a 1.91 ERA and a 10.27 K/9 rate.

  • Drew Pomeranz Could Begin Rehab Assignment This Week

San Diego Padres left-handed reliever Drew Pomeranz (elbow) could begin a minor league rehab assignment this week, although skipper Bob Melvin said it's unknown whether Pomeranz would instead throw another simulated inning. The 33-year-old is recovering from flexor tendon surgery last August and "still feels it some" when he throws, according to Melvin. Pomeranz threw 19 pitches in a simulated game on Saturday, but he still has a ways to go before he'll be able to make his 2022 season debut out of San Diego's bullpen. The veteran southpaw could be a key late-inning piece for the Padres when healthy, but he's unlikely to be a factor for saves, with only nine in his career.

  • Kyle Finnegan Earns His Second Save On Sunday

Washington Nationals reliever Kyle Finnegan closed out the team's 4-3 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday to earn his second save of the year. It was his first save opportunity since the team lost Tanner Rainey (elbow) to a season-ending injury a few weeks back. Finnegan recorded the final five outs of Sunday's game, retiring each of the five batters he faced. He now owns a 3.76 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP on the year to go along with a 3.3 K/BB ratio. The 30-year-old should continue to serve as the team's primary closer going forward as long as he can pitch effectively, making him worthy of a roster spot in most fantasy leagues.
